A Confession...
I think the Timberwolves are in a good position going into next year even before any moves are made.
Here is our rotation assuming both Pekovic and Rubio come over next year:
PG:Rubio/Flynn or Sessions
SG:Brewer/Ellington
SF:Gomes/Wilkins
PF:Jefferson/Love
C:Hollins/Pekovic
With this line up, without even considering who we draft or add in free agency, we are looking at, maybe, on the brink of a playoff run next year. It would be near the bottom of course (7th or 8th seed), but it still would be about where the Grizzlies are at now.
There are two holes that need to be addressed either in the draft or free agency (or trades...): SF and C could each be improved considerably. How we do that, I am not sure. But, on the heals of seeing how we have played the last week or so, I am beginning to be fairly optimistic about our chances to really improve our chances of being competitive in the very near future.
(As an aside, from a strictly talent point of view I think the addition of Iguodala and Dalemert would be great players to fill the holes we have. Contractually, I do not know if it would be prudent, it seems quite consensus that Iguodala and Dalembert are both overpaid.)

Rubio will almost certainly stay in Spain for another year
And possibly longer. While there are certainly advantages to him coming over (before CBA gets renegotiated for one), there are disadvantages as well (buyout is still very difficult to ignore).
We definitely have potential with only our current players/assets, but I think we would be a low to mid playoff team at best (barring the best outcome for all players/coaches).
The nice thing about your post though, is that we get to see what we have without even acknowledging our current draft assets. We have 3(?) picks for this years draft and possibly one next year. On top of that, we have tons of capspace to utilize for (hopefully) some FAs and also to give our current guys a raise when the time comes.
yeah...
…at least 2 years for Rubio….when he’ll be 21.

I hope Kahn does everything
he can to buy-out Rubio so he’s here next year. I’m sick of waiting for him. But obviously, if nothing can be done, you live with it. Even so, I don’t see a playoff run next year. The year after, but not next year unless we take on some veteran contracts. But that won’t happen.
You are probably right...
but I did say we would be on the brinkof a playoff run…maybe 35 wins or so…oh well…at the rate we are gonig now we might make 35 this year…lol
