Have you guys seen...
…“Gunnin’ for that #1 spot” ? A documentary on a game of elite high school prospects at Rucker park a few years ago. Starring Jenngings, Westbrook, Beasley, Love, Singler, Stephenson, a few more guys. Cole was even in the game. The section on Singler was so All-American I wanted to puke. It is on Netflix Watch Instantly at the moment.

by SoDakHmr on Feb 9, 2010 7:22 PM CST up reply actions 0 recs
Eh
I doubt Rambis would willingly break up a 4-game winning streak to tank. It’s just a result of bad play and early foul trouble.
by nja700 on Feb 9, 2010 7:28 PM CST up reply actions 0 recs
And no defense
61% shooting for the Sixers. That’s ridiculous
On the subject of foul trouble though, I have no idea why Rambis didn’t put Jefferson on Brand and Hollins on Dal to start the game. We were asking for trouble putting Ryan on a guy who completely undercuts his center of gravity like that

This game actually high lights a continuing problem - transition defense. It has been terrible and is still terrible.
don’t have a diagnonsis except our guys have to make a better effort to get back against teams like this. Love especially has to worry a little less about offensive rebounds.
our guys do a terrible job of cutting off angles, making fakes at the guy with the ball to confuse him and most important just getting back on time.
too many 3 on 1’s, 3 on 2’s, 4 on 2’s etc…..
This might be our single biggest weakness now.

Can't Wait Until..
My man “Fourth Quarter Pech” comes back in the game and ties this thing up. I’m all for a dramatic finish Rambis, but there’s only 7 minutes left, let’s get Pech in and tie this thing up!

26 fast break points by the 76ers.... they built the lead in transition and kept it with good perimeter shooting.
The wolves need to learn how to defend in transition.
why can other teams out run us in transition so often.
I see more 3 on 1’s, 4 on 1’s, 4 on 2’s, 3 on 2’s against us than against most other teams…
We are doing something wrong against good fast break teams….
Its been a problem the whole season.
by Kevin Love Jefferson on Feb 9, 2010 8:21 PM CST reply actions 0 recs
Not turning the ball over 19 times would help
No team is going to play good transition defense when it hands the ball to their opponents all game
by Oceanary on Feb 9, 2010 8:34 PM CST up reply actions 0 recs
true..part of that is experience....
Flynn 5
Ellington 3
Love 2
But too many “lazy” passes. Expecting to be “allowed” to run their play. practices aren’t tough enough.
Part of it is just poor passing technique. So many bad passes trying to run the break even by experienced players like Sessions and Wilkins.
We literally need “passing practice”.
Sessions needs to learn the “stand up” bounce pass so its not down at the ankles. Those are things that can be practiced.
by Kevin Love Jefferson on Feb 9, 2010 8:42 PM CST up reply actions 0 recs
Wow....
We were brutally awful. Seriously, a massive Fail game. It’s disappointing after we had been playing so well (and won) the past four games. I mean, we got destroyed by Philly? Elton Brand dominated us? No AI? Jason Smith was having his way in the paint?
Flynn just dribbles around and pounds the ball so much. Sessions is a much better facilitator. It’s pretty obvious. Flynn is a backup SG/PG spark off the bench. He is not starting caliber PG for a contender. Same thing I said about Foye. Flynn will be better than Foye when all is said and done, but its still true.
Love played well in the first quarter, and then disappeared. He needs more than 24 minutes. Wtf?
Nothing else to say about us, we were terrible. 19 turnovers and atrocious transition defense doesn’t help either. We had no answer whatsoever for their length and athleticism. If you missed the game, it was not pretty. Heck, we gave up 73 points in the first half. Just brutal.
That’s why there is such a conundrum with these team. After the past four wins, ya want us to keep winning and play well. Then they have a reality check game against a crappy team like Philly, and you see how truly awful we are. I mean, we need like three more lottery picks, at least, for any hope for contending in the future. So in that regard, we need to lose as many games as possible to get a chance for guys like Wall and Turner. It’s the only way.
I guess a good barometer will be to see how we play against a “legit” team like Charlotte tomorrow night. If we get blown out again, then the past four games were just an illusion. Even bad teams in the NBA can win a few games in a row every now and then. And if we win tomorrow night, don’t listen to this post as its just another time I’ve overreacting because of post-game blowout loss frustration.
by College Wolf on Feb 9, 2010 11:42 PM CST reply actions 0 recs
Part of me wonders if Kahn wants to Flynn a lot in order to use him as trade asset and that is why he always gushes about him. I don’t think I have ever heard him gush like that about anyone else on the team. That is probably the conspiracy theorist in me.
by Jaughn on Feb 10, 2010 1:08 AM CST up reply actions 0 recs
I could see that...
It’s already clear he won’t be a game changing superstar PG, or even a star. Heck, he’s a borderline career above average starter. Yeah, he could get better, I agree there… but we need something better as our starting PG.
by College Wolf on Feb 10, 2010 1:27 AM CST up reply actions 0 recs
I see Flynn as Jason Terry type in the long run
Not a superstar, but not bad, all thing considered. Terry is half starter, half sixth man…it just depends on the team he’s playing for and the system he’s in.
I do think Flynn would play a lot better if we had a consistent pick and roll game, and I think the lack of that really hurts him. It’s the only thing he’s 100% comfortable with running. So I think the argument goes both ways….no, he’s not doing well and isn’t showing a lot of progress in developing a game outside his comfort zone. But at the same time, he is a rookie running one of the most complex offensive systems in basketball.
I’m much more interested in how he does next season. I think it’s way too early to write him off as a career anything right now. A lot of people made that mistake two years ago, writing off Brewer halfway through his rookie year, and man do they all look stupid now.
by Oceanary on Feb 10, 2010 2:52 AM CST up reply actions 0 recs
And yes, Flynn will be much better than Foye
He’s already a much better scorer….better shooter, better finisher, better at getting to the FT line (and that’s going to improve exponentially next season when Flynn sheds the “rookie call” status)
by Oceanary on Feb 10, 2010 2:54 AM CST up reply actions 0 recs
I couldn’t agree more, but if Flynn was standing in the way from adding someone like Iguodala, I would’t think twice about trading him.
