Confirmed: Blount to be Waived
Hoopus sources (feels as weird to write as it does to read) have confirmed that Mark Blount will be released today. Since the Wolves weren't able to use his contract in a deadline move they are honoring their agreement to cut Blount in time to qualify for the playoffs with another team.
Fare thee well 7-Foot Shooting Guard.

Who's going to want him?
I pity the playoff team that signs him thinking he’s going to make things better….
I'm kinda surprised the Blazers didn't show interest in him.
see’n how every big we get somehow almost dies on the floor. Instead we opted for the much better, game changing Travis Diener?

Keeping Blount over Atkins?
Let me harp on the move that frustrated me most for the season (and which also demonstrates what an odd guy I am). I understand keeping Blount as fodder for a trade, but if it was a choice between using that space on Blount or the more valuable trade commodity, Chucky Atkins partially guaranteed contract, then we made the wrong call.
As you will recall, Atkins has a $3,480,000, that was only partially guaranteed for $760,000. In a league where contracts need to cap match, this was a $2.72 mil “Get Out of Jail Card Free!” for some team really needing to lose 2009-10 cap space. I didn’t mind sacrificing two 2nds in the deal, because for a team over the lux, this was a great asset. For example, UTA finished the season $2 mil over the lux. If we had traded them Atkins and they waived him, he’d have saved them roughly $8.7 mil. That much money could have gotten much better assets, than us simply waiving him for $2.72 mil. Keeping Blount and not using his contract turned out to be a mistake.
