My mock offseason: Medicine for the Wolves free fall.
We're in free fall to the finish line. We've got a mismatched roster and a stubborn coach. What's left, but to dream of better days. It makes me feel better. Piggybacking on multple things...
-Assume the Wolves stay at #2. A big assumption, but we can hope right?
-Draft day trade of Al and Brewer for Tayshaun Prince and the #6 (thanks Blakely?). I don't know how likely this is, but Detroit would seem like a team that might be willing to "win now" given how much money they spent last year and their committed salaries. They lack a true big. Brewer fills Prince's space for a year. We land a very good complementary 3 with defense, length and 3 point shooting. Prince is too old for our long term plans, but has a handy expiring contract.
-Trade up from 6 using the Charlotte pick for a top 4 pick to select D. Favors (or D. Cousins). In this fantasy we draft an uber athletic 4 with good defense and huge potential. This is really more of 3 team trade as the finances for the Detroit deal would require the pick to be sign/traded.
-Paul George falls to the Utah pick. 2nd rounders...sold to pay for....
-Waive/buyout Gomes. Renounce all other FA's. Darko does what he says he's going to and returns to Europe.
-Trade Pekovic's rights to San Antonio for Tiago Splitters after arranging a deal where we frontload a contract using our cap room. This could give Splitter enough upfront to cover him for when the lockout hits and would take advantage of his financial concerns over joining the cap locked Spurs. SA nets a big man they might get cheaper and would complement Duncan's aging defense. Maybe we spice the deal up a bit with something else.
-Sign Josh Childress with a portion of our remaining FA money. Additionally, look at a FA big and bringing back Wilkins for the minimum.
Flynn, Sessions, Turner
Turner, Ellington, George
Prince, Childress
Love, Favors
Splitter, Favors, Hollins

Not Pekovic for Splitters
We want an all Euro front court….Pekovic AND Splitters! (though Splitters is technically Brazilian) I suggest…Splitters for Hollins! Crazy…Spurs get a bench player (with upside!!!) for a guy who won’t come over for them anyway.
That would free us to trade both Love and Jefferson.
Let’s see:
Big Al and Brewer to Detroit for Prince and #6?
Love + Charlotte pick + 2 second round picks for Anthony Randolph and GW #1 pick (3rd overall)(from other post)?
That puts us at 2, 3, 6, and 25 (Utah pick)
With 2: Evan Turner!
With 3: Derrick Favors!
With 6: Wesley Johnson or Al-Farouq Aminu
With 25: ?
This leaves us with…
Flynn/Sessions
Turner/Ellington
Prince/Johnson (or Aminu)
Pekovic/Favors
Splitters/Favors
That puts us nine deep with Rubio coming over the year after and Prince departing that same year.
This NEVER happens! Too many rookies, but I think this would at least be interesting.
and for #25....
go for a reach with Jarvis Varnado as a shut down defender off the bench!
Might as well
trade the Utah pick and keep the 32nd pick then so we can pay him less money :)
Crap
you might be right. I looked and couldn’t find anything too great on it. NBAdraft.net doesn’t say anything about it (they usually say how the picks are acquired, don’t know if it says who they are owed to though), but that’s a really unreliable source. Found something saying we traded them our second round pick, which makes that a really dumb trade seeing what we did(n’t do) with Atkins’ contract. That pick will possibly have more value than the Utah pick come draft day. Probably not because there are no beginning of the second round Euro prospects, but we’ll see. All I know is that I will be pissed if OKC somehow ends up with Willie Warren with that pick.
Fun exercise
maybe I’ll have to do one of my own eventually.
I don’t know much about Splitter, but I do know he is slightly more highly regarded than Pek, so you are right that we would probably have to throw in an extra second rounder or something else more. Also, can we include Flynn instead of Brewer in that deal? Then we can finally start Sessions and use Turner as our backup PG (or Ellington for stretches!). George would probably spend some initial time in the DLeague to get his feet wet while we figure out what we have in our 3 other rookies. None of the deals seem too unrealistic though, so it really is nice to see what our assets could bring us.
I think it is giving up to much for now
Corey can be part of this team in a few years when it becomes competitive. Prince is probably too old to fit that plan. I might do it if Detroit would take Gomes instead of Brewer. Prince would be the old vet this team is sorely lacking, assuming he is someone willing to be a mentor to young players.
