No JKidd tonight either

How telling that the team chooses us to rest him against

by Oceanary on Mar 3, 2010 7:07 PM CST reply actions

Looks like

the Timberwolves are outmanned by quite a significant amount at every single position tonight…, I guess it’s a good thing that Kidd is sitting then. Even though he could teach Flynn a lesson or two…

by Mplax on Mar 3, 2010 7:11 PM CST reply actions

what is rambis doing

Love is not starting, this is a joke

by GWST11 on Mar 3, 2010 7:14 PM CST reply actions

That's an absolute joke.

I’m trying to convince myself Rambis isn’t an idiot, but it’s harder than ever.

by John Doe on Mar 3, 2010 7:35 PM CST up reply actions

+1

I try to find as many ways as possible to not say “Rambis is a MORON”

by Blakeley on Mar 3, 2010 7:36 PM CST up reply actions

Please read my post, it'll comfort you

See Fanpost: A conversation between Kahn and Rambis

by DR_JPK on Mar 3, 2010 7:50 PM CST up reply actions

Hey there it is!

When recommended Fanposts move out of the list and into their own section, they become invisible to me. I’ll have a look. Like I said, I really want to believe Rambis is a good coach, like a 12 year old trying to suspend his disbelief about Santa Claus for one more Christmas.

by John Doe on Mar 3, 2010 8:12 PM CST up reply actions

I read it.

I don’t quite buy it. We’d lose plenty without doing so intentionally. And don’t we have young guys like Ellington and Tucker who we could use to tank while actually getting player development, rather than just faking it?

by John Doe on Mar 3, 2010 8:20 PM CST up reply actions

tanking early by not starting love!

by mistertoad on Mar 3, 2010 7:21 PM CST reply actions

I said this in the line-up thread...

THe issue is not that Love isn’t starting…it’s that with Love coming in 6 minutes into the 1st/3rd….there is no way that he can get to the 34-36 minute mark without completely wearing him out.

by Blakeley on Mar 3, 2010 7:35 PM CST reply actions

I'm glad at least one other person is aware of this.

He can reach the mid 30s for minutes coming off the bench, but only if you’re totally committed to a 3 player big man rotation and bringing him in early on in the 1st and 3rd. Pretty much everything has to go right for him to reach just the low 30s, but then Rambis plays Gomes at the 4 or doesn’t sub Love in soon enough, and his minutes get cut.

The only long term solution is to start Love/Jefferson or to trade one of them, because we’re not maximizing their value by cutting both of their minutes.

by John Doe on Mar 3, 2010 7:42 PM CST up reply actions

Only thing I can think of...

…is he’s worried about a Love/Dirk matchup. He did this last time we played Dallas too, when he wouldn’t put Love in at the end of the game

by Oceanary on Mar 3, 2010 7:39 PM CST reply actions

Further evidence of incompetence

Hollins had one good defensive possession on Dirk, but then gave up points on like 5 straight possessions afterward. Dirk realized that Hollins was too stupid not to go for his fakes, so he got the line 3 times in a row. Rambis did nothing. If not for Hollins’ 6th foul forcing the substitution for him, we would have lost that game.

by John Doe on Mar 3, 2010 7:47 PM CST up reply actions

Nice...

I like how the Dallas announcers just talked up Flynn and Brewer as our scorers to stop, then admitted they were both averaging 13 ppg. Good God, this will be awful to watch.

by deus04 on Mar 3, 2010 7:43 PM CST reply actions

For everybody not watching

Hollins sets a screen and rolls to the right elbow, Flynn rolls to middle and throws to Darko at the FT line, who immediately swings it to Hollins who gets the roll.

by KMils on Mar 3, 2010 7:51 PM CST up reply actions

It looks like Dallas

is afraid to take it inside against our bigs…. 14 feet of raw defensive power!

by Mplax on Mar 3, 2010 7:49 PM CST reply actions

Hollins,

please block out your man.

Nice start for Flynn and Darko.

by Andy G on Mar 3, 2010 7:54 PM CST reply actions

This is a lineup

where I don’t mind Flynn getting some shots up. He’s our best shot creator of the bunch.

by Rascal Flatts on Mar 3, 2010 7:55 PM CST up reply actions

He literally just stands there

When Darko closes out on a shooter, it’s an automatic offensive rebound for Dallas. We might as well just leave them open and hope they miss, because Hollins is not grabbing that rebound.

by John Doe on Mar 3, 2010 8:03 PM CST up reply actions

lol

I think they’ve taken up my strategy. Terry has been so open that he looks confused as to how it could have happened.

by John Doe on Mar 3, 2010 8:08 PM CST up reply actions

Is not starting Love a clear indication that even if Al is traded that Rambis thinks Love is best as 6th man?

by TWolvesFanInLA on Mar 3, 2010 8:00 PM CST reply actions

Incredibly close

Terry – 12.5pts / 6.6ast / 3.2reb / 1.7stl per 36 while shooting 41.5 / 29.3 / 80.7
Flynn – 17.0pts / 5.4ast / 3.1reb / 1.3stl per 36 while shooting 41.6 / 35.0 / 81.6

by KMils on Mar 3, 2010 8:10 PM CST up reply actions

Terry was also 6’2" for his entire rookie season, while Johnny just turned 6’0"

And I’m pretty sure he’s never going to get any bigger.

by rickyp on Mar 3, 2010 8:13 PM CST up reply actions

Why?

Yeah, Terry at 21 was 2 1/4 inches taller than Flynn at 20, but other players kept growing after 20 – Ty Lawson put on half an inch between the 2008 and 2009 drafts. Plus, Flynn weighed 20 pounds more than Terry did; I wouldn’t be surprised if Flynn is Terry with a slightly worse outside game and a slightly better inside game.

by KMils on Mar 3, 2010 8:22 PM CST up reply actions

yet everyone thinks Flynn was a huge mistake at #6. Jason Terry has had a better career than most of the top 10 picks in 2009 draft will have.

by TWolvesFanInLA on Mar 3, 2010 8:16 PM CST up reply actions

Wow.

I’ve been dogging the Flynn/Terry comparison because Terry seems like so much more of a dangerous shooter. I would not have guessed that he was ever so bad on 3’s. On the other hand, it’s kinda embarrassing that Terry averaged more assists.

by John Doe on Mar 3, 2010 8:14 PM CST up reply actions

Terry averaged 7.4 assts per game one year in Atl. It’s not that embarrassing.

by TWolvesFanInLA on Mar 3, 2010 8:18 PM CST up reply actions

How many losses do we need

before we can let Tucker on the floor to see what we have, otherwise D-league him

by bheidge on Mar 3, 2010 8:03 PM CST reply actions

but thought humor would be more in order…lol

by pablo85 on Mar 3, 2010 8:09 PM CST up reply actions

Yeah... 'm gona go watch G. Vasquez tear up Duke

Tonight I’m gonna take a break from Flynn/Hollins starting, Love subbing, and coaching decisions that actually put Pavlovic in a game on purpose

by SF on Mar 3, 2010 8:11 PM CST up reply actions

Haha

Look, Flynn’s frustrating at times, but people are too hard on him on this site

by MoreJuice on Mar 3, 2010 8:10 PM CST reply actions

You're mostly right,

but I mean, c’mon. The dude drives the lane then jumps in the air, then passes it out of bounds in front of Love. I used to do stuff like that on the JV team and I got benched? How is Flynn still doing this in the pros??

by SF on Mar 3, 2010 8:13 PM CST up reply actions

I hear you

Flynn does a lot of JV stuff. But on that particular play, I think Love wasn’t expecting it. He could have reached that ball.

by Rascal Flatts on Mar 3, 2010 8:17 PM CST up reply actions

I actually think

that was brilliant of Rambis to draw that tech. He recognized that Darko was pretty close to going off the edge there, and stepped up for his player.

by JayKim41 on Mar 3, 2010 8:17 PM CST reply actions

He got a tech

for being out of the coaching box… not really stepping up… more so just stepping out.

by Mplax on Mar 3, 2010 8:18 PM CST up reply actions

by pablo85 on Mar 3, 2010 8:22 PM CST up reply actions

how was that a foul on Love? He was dribbling when the whistle went off…

by Mplax on Mar 3, 2010 8:17 PM CST reply actions

Pavs

Ugly shot selection. At least it went down.

by bgkrenz on Mar 3, 2010 8:22 PM CST reply actions

god

pavs is just chucking threes

by GWST11 on Mar 3, 2010 8:22 PM CST reply actions

They were both very marginal calls.

The last one especially. Love caught the ball, barely moved, and Najera flopped as bizarre slow motion. The first offensive foul came as Loves was catching a pass and I really have no idea why it was called, I saw nothing.

by princelyfrank on Mar 3, 2010 8:27 PM CST reply actions

A good Jonny Stop?

Just now, he stood up top doing nothing with the shot clock ticking down from 6. The Mavs didn’t think anyone would be that indifferent to the need for urgency, and they camped in the lane waiting for the drive that should have come. Whistle blows, defensive 3 second violation.

by John Doe on Mar 3, 2010 8:28 PM CST reply actions

Another unfair Flynn rip, lol

I feel like I’m his brother defending him all the time, but the ball was passed to him at the top of the key with 7 seconds left, he only had it for like a second before the def 3 sec

by MoreJuice on Mar 3, 2010 8:30 PM CST up reply actions

Not necessarily a rip

What if he did do it on purpose?

by John Doe on Mar 3, 2010 8:32 PM CST up reply actions

Alright

that was a GREAT F*@king play by Hollins!! F off refs.

by Mplax on Mar 3, 2010 8:34 PM CST reply actions

lol @ Dirk and Hollins

They’re dueling floppers. Hollins just got sprawled from some minor contact, so Dirk fake fell over to sell it. This is intense!

yes

even if. Who knows how all three of those turn out

by bheidge on Mar 3, 2010 8:43 PM CST up reply actions

It was a fair offer

I just didnt like it. Keeping Jefferson doesnt seem like an option anymore. I dont like the idea of selling so low on him. I would take Gay over Deng 10x over. Younger, more consistent, less of an injury risk.

by bheidge on Mar 3, 2010 8:50 PM CST up reply actions

i think the age difference is like 1 year between them...

and gay doesn’t play d whilst deng is a very good defender….also a better rebounder and a better 3 point shooter, whilst gay is just a scorer who doesn’t give u much else

by ballllin on Mar 3, 2010 8:55 PM CST up reply actions

I dunno about that

Gay is averaging 20 pts 6 rebounds 2 assists 1.5 stls and 1 block per game and is 23 years old, also has played 78, 81, 79, and 58 games this year.
Deng is averaging 18 pts 7 rebounds 2 assists 1 steal and 1 block per game, 24 years old and played in 61, 78, 82, 63, 49 and 59 games this year.
Take your pick, I will go with Rudy

by bheidge on Mar 3, 2010 9:04 PM CST up reply actions

but there is no guarantee we get Rudy.

by TWolvesFanInLA on Mar 3, 2010 9:14 PM CST up reply actions

Deng isn't "very good"

But he’s definitely better than Gay, who is pretty awful.

by KMils on Mar 3, 2010 9:09 PM CST up reply actions

I hate the way this site handles threads. No edit, no delete, every reply is tabbed over way too far

by KMils on Mar 3, 2010 9:10 PM CST up reply actions

I think he's about average

To slightly above average. Again, combined with his above average offensive game, he’s a very solid player.

by KMils on Mar 3, 2010 9:17 PM CST up reply actions

No

But we can’t just give the guy away.

by Rascal Flatts on Mar 3, 2010 8:40 PM CST up reply actions

Ha, ouch

Can’t defend that one..

by MoreJuice on Mar 3, 2010 10:00 PM CST reply actions

Why?

Why would we not try for a 3?

by Mplax on Mar 3, 2010 10:00 PM CST reply actions

Ok

I’d definitely trade him for Beaubois now. With his superior French education, surely he would’ve known that we needed three (3) points to tie.

btw...

Has anyone been watching Darren Collison’s stat lines. WOW.

by Blakeley on Mar 3, 2010 10:02 PM CST reply actions

yup...

unbelievable…Thornton and Collison have been playing very well.

by TWolvesFanInLA on Mar 3, 2010 10:05 PM CST up reply actions

Although no one really saw this coming from Collison

We can cry in our soup over Curry, but no one had Collison doing these things.

by Rascal Flatts on Mar 3, 2010 10:06 PM CST up reply actions

I watched him play a bit while he was at UCLA.

While I’m not surprised he has exceeded expectations. These things are hard to predict. Could be playing behind CP3, or the team. It’s not a given. Jonny might be great on another team. Curry might suck on another team. Give rookies some time.

20 turnovers

Even more amazing…..Hollins managed to hang onto 7 rebounds tonight. Sadly, that might be a season high for him.

I hate end of the game play calls

Send a pass in to the three point line and have someone just shoot it immediately. You get fouled you get 3 shots. Yout don’t get fouled and miss it, you get 3 seconds off the clock and a rebound on the wrong side of the floor… game over.

Here's the question...

Which Point Guards drafted in the first round have been WORSE then Jonny Flynn….

Anybody?

by Blakeley on Mar 3, 2010 10:05 PM CST reply actions

Thank you

The kid just turned 21 like 3 weeks ago, he played a good game, took a dumb shot at the end on the road, it’s too early to judge.

Jennings has been pretty awful actually since Dec

by TWolvesFanInLA on Mar 3, 2010 10:08 PM CST up reply actions

That was nice of you

“pretty awful”

Giving him the benefit of the doubt like that… A scholar and a gentleman!

by Mplax on Mar 3, 2010 10:11 PM CST up reply actions

Flynn isn't awful

He’s shown he can score very well, and I’ll give him time to add more to his game. Yes, he makes awful, awful mistakes. But it’s far too early to call him a complete failure.

What nobody mentions is that virtually every other player that is not a PG in this draft has been worse than Jonny. I know that guys like Curry and Jennings that were drafted around him have had much better years (in stretches), but there are far worse players with less upside that have ended up with than Jonny Flynn.

There were legit questions about all of the other PGs drafted in this very PG-deep draft. Aside from his size, you could argue that Flynn was the most solid all-around choice at the time. It wasn’t guaranteed that Curry would be anything more than a shooter just as much as there wasn’t a guarantee that Jennings would be anything more than a head case who blows away in a strong breeze. Maybe those guys keep improving, and Jonny is a no-game disappointment. But if we really are interested in developing these guys as best we can, I’m willing to be patient until he pulls a Corey and learns how to play in the NBA.

Well Guys

greetings from the Mav realm. You guys gave us all we wanted and then some so I tip my hat to you. I really think the Timberwolves have a good thing going. Keep your heads up!

by Mplax on Mar 3, 2010 10:09 PM CST up reply actions

Why? Dirk is just a lankier and taller version of him

with more skill… Both of them flop like crazy. Dirk always looks really indignant after he does it too. It’s like he’s trying to sell it by looking hurt as if a light bump from Hollins is enough to hurt someone…

by Mplax on Mar 4, 2010 2:37 PM CST up reply actions

ah, youth...

bad decisions and turnovers. we reduce those 10-20% even and we double our wins. a lot of close games lost on bad execution late. makes you miss healthy Al. Don’t like the plodding style as an all-game approach, but I would have liked it in the last few miuntes of this kind of game

by ChicagoViking on Mar 3, 2010 10:07 PM CST reply actions

just looking for hope

maybe we can grow out of the TOs and bad shot selection a bit. We seem to have more talent and are more competitive.

by ChicagoViking on Mar 3, 2010 10:11 PM CST up reply actions

Yeah I think they are working on the TOs

Love mentioned them recently as an issue that they have been having. So at least they recognize that.

by Mplax on Mar 4, 2010 2:38 PM CST up reply actions

I thought Darko would get more burn tonight.

I still can’t believe a playoff team didn’t make us an offer for Gomes. He would be so solid off the bench for a playoff run and his contract is perfect for that situation.

by TWolvesFanInLA on Mar 3, 2010 10:10 PM CST reply actions

They aren't tanking

That’s stupid, they don’t need to tank, they are nearly a lock for the 2nd worst record, plus it’s too early to tank.

by MoreJuice on Mar 3, 2010 10:17 PM CST reply actions

they have to win 2 more

to have the worst historical t-pups record…and that’s sayin somethin
