Jonny Flynn and Jason Terry (and Earl Watson too)
In the Minnesota @ Dallas game thread, Ballllin said "i see flynn becoming a terry for us." And while that seems like a pipe dream, their rookie seasons are remarkably similar. Just take a peek at their per/36 statistics as well as some advanced metrics.
| Name | Age | G | GS | MP | FG | FGA | FG% | 3P | 3PA | 3P% | FT | FTA | FT% | ORB | DRB | TRB | AST | STL | BLK | TOV | PF | PTS |
| Flynn | 20 | 61 | 61 | 1768 | 6.2 | 14.9 | 0.416 | 1.1 | 3.2 | 0.35 | 3.4 | 4.2 | 0.816 | 0.4 | 2.7 | 3.1 | 5.4 | 1.3 | 0 | 3.5 | 1.7 | 17 |
| Terry | 22 | 81 | 27 | 1888 | 4.7 | 11.4 | 0.415 | 0.9 | 3 | 0.293 | 2.2 | 2.7 | 0.807 | 0.5 | 2.7 | 3.2 | 6.6 | 1.7 | 0.2 | 3 | 2.5 | 12.5 |
| Name | Age | G | MP | PER | TS% | eFG% | ORB% | DRB% | TRB% | AST% | STL% | BLK% | TOV% | USG% | ORtg | DRtg | OWS | DWS | WS | |||
| Flynn | 20 | 61 | 1768 | 13.4 | 0.506 | 0.454 | 1.2 | 8.5 | 4.8 | 24.6 | 1.8 | 0.1 | 17.2 | 24.5 | 97 | 112 | -0.3 | 0.7 | 0.5 | |||
| Terry | 22 | 81 | 1888 | 13.9 | 0.497 | 0.453 | 1.4 | 8.2 | 4.8 | 29.3 | 2.5 | 0.3 | 19.1 | 19.2 | 100 | 108 | 0.9 | 0.9 | 1.9 |
The advanced metrics give Terry a slight edge, especially on ORtg and DRtg, but Flynn has more of the pressure on his shoulders, having started the entire season and having the ball in his hands more. He's shooting slightly better despite taking more shots and he's getting to the free-throw line more than Terry did. Having an assist rate lower than Jason Terry doesn't bode well for his future at the point, and it remains to be seen if Flynn can improve like Terry did (especially shooting from the outside) but if Flynn works out, we could have a nice scoring push off the bench.
For the record, the DraftExpress best case for Flynn was Earl Watson, who doesn't match up as well with Flynn's rookie season, but has turned into a mediocre version of the scorer off the bench. That's a pretty bad case scenario for Flynn; Watson is Terry without the great offensive game and there's a reason he's bounced around in his first years as a pro.

After years of watching the sonics
My worst (basketball) nightmare is Flynn’s ceiling as Earl Watson.
Funny
I was just thinking today that Flynn’s upside seemed to be Jason Terry, and was going to look up some stats on it. Thanks for taking care of it for me.
"especially on ORtg and DRtg"
I wouldn’t worry about that. ORtg and DRtg are a team’s offensive and defensive rating with the player on the court. 80% of it is that player’s teammates. It’s not really relevant in comparing players from different teams, but rather to see how individual players improve or hurt their own team’s offensive and defensive efficiency.
Which is why Love's is so damn impressive
at 117 and 107 last time I checked. Just wow. Good for him.
In a perfect world:
1.We get the 2nd Pick and select Evan Turner.
2.We trade Al to the Nets (http://games.espn.go.com/nba/tradeMachine?tradeId=ygwf4h8) Trade only works if we select Turner and the Nets select Wall.
Wolves:
Andrew Bynum
Jeff Foster
Sasha Vujacic
Lakers:
Devin Harris
Yi Jianlian
Wayne Ellington
Nets:
Al Jefferson
Indiana:
Ryan Hollins
Ryan Gomes
3.We trade Ramon Sessions and Charlotte’s pick to Indiana for the right to their pick, Wesley Johnson.

I love this trade,
but I don’t think there is any way LAL will ever part with Bynum unless it brings them someone like Bosh or Amar’e.
Your 3rd point makes the most sense. IND needs a PG in a bad way. They’ve given up on Ford and Price might be 2 years away in terms of being a starter in the league.

I think the thought
was that LAL actually gets an athletic point which is a position of need (at least defensively). The addition of Yi will take some of bynum’s frontcourt minutes. Both Odom and Gasol will get alot of frontcourt minutes as well.

Yi is awful
No team would ever take him in a trade and expect him to play minutes. He’d plop down right next to Adam Morrison and never leave his seat.
hes a joke and devin harris has been terrible this season aswell...
shooting under 39% from the field and hes a terrible 3 point shooter, which is important for a pg in their triangle offence. Maybe its because of how bad Nets have been this season but i think his value has fallen alot in this league and his contract has become a pretty bad one
