In a previous post someone suggested we are either or going to have to build around Rubio or use Rubio as a chip to bring in someone we can build around. This post will advocate building around Rubio.
My contention is that the T-Wolves are set in regard to the 1, 4, and 5 positions with players such as Rubio, Flynn/Sessions (only one is here long term), Love, Big Al, Milicic, and Pekovic. The only issue within this context is whether or not Love will be contented to be a 6th man his whole career.
The problems begin to really arise when we come to the 2 and 3 positions. We have players such as Brewer and Ellington. I really like them both, especially Ellington, but have no confidence that either are really starters in this league.
What should we do about this problem on the wings?
My solution is to add BOTH Wesley Johnson and Aminu. How we get them both will be interesting, but this is my current solution:
Trade #4 pick to Sacramento (where they take Cousins) and they give us the #5 pick (where we take Wesley Johnson) and a future 1st.
At this point the roster looks like this...
Plus there are the 16 and 23 picks to consider.
After next year we bring Rubio over and then attempt to add some extra athleticism in the post and the Timberwolves doesn't look so bad anymore.
