Let's Settle This: At What Cost Should The Wolves Move Up for Evan Turner? (With poll!)
With permission from -- and credit to -- PoorDick, I thought it would be interesting to determine just how much Canis Hoopus as a community is willing to shed to get the guy we've wanted for a solid year now.
If you were David Kahn negotiating with Philly for the second pick, where is your line in the sand? All poll options include giving up the 4th pick, assuming for simplicity's sake that we're trying to move up from 4 to 2 rather than have them both.

It's tough
I voted 16th pick, but realistically I might take on a contract plus the 23rd pick, but it depends on the contract. If we are talking Elton Brand, then no, I can’t take that contract. If it’s one season of an overpaid Jason Kapono, then I might do it.

But don't you think Philly will just wait out Daly
He expires after this season and I don’t see Philly as being big free agent players this summer.

I posted on the 76ers blog and
they seem to want to wait out Dalembert and Kapono’s lousy contracts.
I think you bring up a good point
They aren’t going to give up a franchise player to move one of these contracts that expire in a year. It would be nice for the Wolves, but not enough for Philly, although if Philly decided they like Cousins, it would be an easy way for them to get out of a bad deal.
4, 16, and Ellington
for 2 and Kapono?

This would be my preference....
Possibly Pekovic could be thrown in as well.
This would be close
although I’d rather keep Pekovic and offer Philly an extra $3 million. That would save then almost $10 million this year.
I voted none but I think it has to be part of a larger deal where we take on a big contract & potentially move Al or Love. The chance to get someone with upside like Seraphin at 23 makes that too valuable to move up just for Turner (unless you believe that Cousins absolutely will bomb in the NBA).
Is seraphin really that more valuable than Hollins or Pekovic? Cuz we already got those 2..

Is there any player less valuable than Hollins?

My opinion on Seraphin:
He really wasn’t very productive in France this season, but that’s not to say he wasn’t a solid contributor. He certainly helped the team. Pretty good rebounder and a decent amount of blocks as well, but he only played 15 and 20mpg in each league this season.
His biggest draws for me are his already solid defense, his huge upside, and the fact that we can stash him in France for another year (he has said that he would come over or stay overseas depending on team needs, sounds nice after dealing with Rubio!), and he already has an NBA ready body. On top of this, he would be a perfect stretch 4/5 if he turns out to even be a decent contributor.
He could stand to get to the line a little more to improve his efficiency, but that seems like something that will come with time for a guy of his build. He could also reduce his own fouls and benefit from that, another thing that should come from time/experience though.
For more info, DX has a nice writeup on him. Some of the key points are that the teams who passed up on a couple other guys from France (Beaubois and Batum, not to mention Parker and Diaw, are kicking themselves for doing so now). Though it should be noted that he is not actually from France (French Guiana to be exact). He is also said to already have a nice jump hook with either hand and a nice, high release turnaround jumper (remind you of anyone?). Solid defensively already, but is obviously a raw player on this side of the court, biting on a lot of jump fakes (which shouldn’t be hard to fix, worst case scenario you tell him to never jump, just get his hand in their face). I’d definitely recommend reading his entire profile as it is a really good/comprehensive writeup on a guy that we don’t get to see much of.
He started to play more as the season went on
And Cholet is the number 1 team in France, so he was contributing to a winning effort.

I’d probably separate Love and Jefferson in the poll. I’m sure there are some people who would give up Al to move up, but not Love (and vice versa), though I suppose that might be adding too many options to a poll that really could have 100 choices if you wanted.

Serious question for anybody who knows anything about Philly
I know Brand has been a train wreck since he signed, but he’s also been injured. Does he have anything left, or is he just a wasted contract?
If Brand were a free agent today, what kind of deal could he get?
Would it be fair for me to then say
that Brand is still useful (perhaps as a backup to Love) but overpaid by about $24 million the next few years. Also, would most people consider Jefferson overpaid by about $12 million over the next three years? If so, the actual cost of trading Jefferson for Brand would be closer to $12 million, for a Wolves team well under the cap. Philly might save more by avoiding the luxury tax.
This could be a fair price to ensure Turner is a Wolf, especially considering they would probably sell $5 million more in tickets and concessions vs. having Wes Johnson or Cousins!
The only issue here
is that Philly most likely doesn’t want Jefferson for a couple reasons
a) Big oversized PF/C contract out, big oversized PF/C contract back in
b) Jefferson is wayyyyy too redundant with Cousins… probably a lot more so than Love and we seem to have a huge issue with that.
For sure
but then they might get A LOT more back if they traded down to the 5th… any ideas for a 3 team deal involving Sacramento?
I’m thinking at the very least, Jason Thompson, Casspi, and/or Spencer Hawes would have to be involved. After all, there’s got to be a pretty high premium for moving up into the top 4 in this draft… though I guess pookeyguru has said that maybe Sac Town doesn’t want Cousins anyways… so who knows?
Check out the fanpost titled
Turner, Love, and LeBron.
It’s a 4-team deal involving Love to Sacto for #5, with other moves that get the Wolves the #2 and Deng and Iggy, but taking back the Brand contract. LeBron ends up in Chicago.
Yeah
but I’m still not a fan of trading Love straight up for the 5th… which is basically what that is for us :)
There’s got to be a better way…
It would be nice if there were a better way
funny thing is, if they just stand pat there might be a 10% chance that Turner falls to them. Something to consider is that with Cousins rep, nobody above the Wolves is going to say they like him, because even if they decided Cousins is the best player in the draft they will want to make a trade, so doing nothing may just work.
On the Love thing, you are right if you are in the camp that Love can be a starting PF on a contender. Then you would probably need to get the 2nd pick in return. Obviously opinion on him is split at this time, although more people like Love.
I don’t know if you will get this post, but an interesting aside on Love I have been meaning to post (if you are still reading you get the scoop). In the couple days leading to the draft I heard a couple Kahn interviews. He admitted in each that Love and Rambis had a strained relationship at the end of the year, but that they started to patch things up at the exit interview and are now getting along. I have no evidence to support what I am thinking, but I wonder if Rambis and Kahn admitted to Love that he got screwed at the end of the year because they needed to showcase Big Al for a trade this summer?
I'd put Love's trade value
at pick 4.333. Just above Johnson/Aminu and just below Cousins/Favors. But closer to Cousins and Favors.
I really hope you are right, but if that’s true then Kahn and Rambis need a very detailed lesson about improving trade value.
Buckeyes are red, Wildcats are blue,
I wanted Evan Turner, But DeMarcus Cousins will do.
I voted 16
If Cousins is as good as some suggest, there’s no reason to trade more than the 16th to move up to 2. If he’s not a franchise altering center, I might give up more.
I don't really want to move up for the price it'd cost
Turner-mania has gone overboard.
Check out my NBA Draft blog:

yup
Turner is not in the cards, kids. time to move on. the only way he gets here is if we make our team WORSE. he is not worth that.
I don't think it's that simple.
I think the workouts, interviews, and medicals are going to shuffle these guys around a bit. Not Wall, but the next 4 or 5 for sure.
