Pacers-Wolves Deal that Works for Both

The trade: Al Jefferson and Jonny Flynn for T.J. Ford and Danny Granger

Pacers perspective:

AJ Price just hurt his knee in a charity game and is out 4-6 months. His contract is not guaranteed, meaning he will most likely be released. They've been trying to trade Ford for the past year, I think it has something to do with his bad relationship with management  and he's on the hook for $8.5 million next year (granted he exercises his option, which he'd be dumb not to). This leaves the Pacers in sore need of a PG.

Granger is at his peak (27 years), and it's clear that the Pacers don't think they can compete anytime soon. Sounds like people around the NBA are saying the Pacers should trade Granger and start rebuilding with younger players sooner rather than later. Al Jefferson is 2 years younger than Granger.

The Pacers want to run a half-court grind it out offense. They have absolutely NO low-post scorer. Roy Hibbert got some minutes last year as part of this offense, but they know that he's not going to be a big time scorer. They can surround Jefferson with shooters too (Rush, Dunleavy, Murphy).

While Ford and Flynn are similar players, Indy would far prefer Flynn. It seems Ford has worn-out his welcome with Pacers management, and Flynn is much younger, has more upside and is a much better teammate.

Wolves perspective:

Obviously we need to trade Big Al or Love. Seems like management likes Love as he is younger and fits in the triangle offense better. We need a wing player, especially one that can shoot. Additionally, if we acquire Granger before the draft, that allows us to stay at 4 and grab Cousins. The trade would also open up more playing time for Love, and especially help for Pekovic if he came over.

Though Ford's salary is rather large ($8.5 mill) for next year, he helps give us depth for one year at the point. It also will be HUGE for the following year, when he becomes a free agent. Hopefully Rubio will be coming over, and we still have Sessions for a year. If we held onto Flynn, we would have 3 PG's under contract which obviously would be a problem.

Granger's deal is a year longer than Al's, but less money per year. Plus, the fact that Granger is a stud. He is a better fit than Turner since he can shoot from long distance (which our current roster lacks).

Could always swap some combo of draft picks: Wolves (4, 16, 23, 45, 56) Pacers (10, 40)

Hypotheticals/Assumptions:

Ideal draft picks this year: Cousins, Paul George or Xavier Henry (if either available at 16), Kevin Seraphin at 23 (stays in Europe for a year)

Our Lineup after the trade:

1. Sessions / Ford
2. Wayne / George or Henry
3. Granger / Brewer
4. Love / Peckovic
5. Cousins / Darko (if signs)

Following Year:

1. Rubio / Sessions
2. Wayne / George or Henry
3. Granger / Brewer
4. Love / Peckovic / Seraphin
5. Cousins / Darko

Championship. Lock it up.
