A little love for Patrick Patterson
So, I'm not a big DMC guy. If we stay at #4 I think we'll suck it up and take Wes Johnson. He fits the need, is athletic and has no attitude baggage (I still hope we trade for ET and this point is moot). Now with 16 someone will fall to us, and I know we're all in love with Paul George and Xavier Henry, but they will likely be gone, and if we take Wes, its less likely that another rookie wing is gonna help us win. However, it is likely that Patrick Patterson will be there waiting for us and I think he might be the best pick no one's talking about.
As I look at our PF problem with Al and KLove, they are both really good players but I just don't see us maxing out Al's skills with our new system. KLove should fit ok, but needs up his conditioning. Thus, if we end up trading Al at some point we are going to need a legit backup PF and I don't think Pekovic is that guy. Pek is a better C on our team than he would be a PF.
Patterson could be a terrific add to our team. He's got a terrific skill set on offense, a chiseled body, and plays with high energy on D. I think he could be a perfect fit to our "running" team that Kahn wants to make happen. I really feel he should be a very solid rotation guy right away with some potential starting ability down the road.

i like him at 23...
i would rather gamble on a young 7 foot center at 16.. or maybe a shooter if any is available.. luke babbit maybe??
i bet you do...
draft express has him going at 11 though
if we take wes johnson at 4
we need to take a center at 16. whiteside? maybe if we get lucky, aldrich will be there at 16
Ughh
If we take Whiteside I might cry. To me he just screams Ryan Hollins.

Wholly unconvincing
I know there’s an unwritten rule somewhere that we as Wolves fans must endure a thread/fanpost/whatever in support of every single player in the draft at some point over the course of the month leading up to the draft, but I really thought Pattrick Patterson could buck the trend. Is there any player the Wolves need less than Patterson? To justify your support at all, you had to create a whole scenario in which:
1) Al Jefferson is traded
2) None of Pekovic, Milicic, or Cousins can effectively play 12 minutes of PF/night. Or Gomes, for that matter.
3) We need a backup PF right away!
If those all happen, then yeah, maybe we’d take a look at him. Even then, I’d much rather take a guy with upside in Hassan Whiteside at #16 or try to move up to grab George or Henry. Patterson would be decent value then, but he’s a disappointingly bad fit for this roster. He has neither great size nor athleticism nor defense, and his playing style isn’t anything we particularly need.
I know there’s an unwritten rule somewhere
I didn’t know that they had a place to inscribe unwritten rules… ;-)
I checked this out yesterday expecting to see a response from you along these lines and was disappointed when I saw none. Better late than never, I guess!
Buckeyes are red, Wildcats are blue,
I wanted Evan Turner, But DeMarcus Cousins will do.
Terribly sorry you had to endure my post......
1) Al Jefferson is traded:
Likely
2) None of Pekovic, Milicic, or Cousins can effectively play 12 minutes of PF/night. Or Gomes, for that matter:
Milicic won’t, Cousins isn’t drafted yet, Pek could but he’s also not here yet.
3) We need a backup PF right away!
Well I suppose we could resign Pecherov!! (note sarcasm)
In a situation so completely speculative as what we’re going to do in the next couple weeks I find it strange that you would use that as your argument. My whole point has been to say this might be a guy that we’re looking past because we’re all obsessed with PG and XH (also to break up the monotony of only talking about them and Cousins).
We WILL take 2 players in this draft and if we go with a wing early we need a big late, and I don’t like the Center options at all at 16. I would take Patterson over Whiteside or Orton any day of the week. If Udoh or Davis falls that may be different, but Patterson is one of the most developed players in the draft.
