Bill Simmons ripping Kahn hard in chat right now.

I can't say I'm totally sold on David Khan right now, but I think the media has officially found their whipping boy.

I kinda want to pick fourth so I can make Minnesota's pick... that way T-Wolves fans can pretend they have someone competent in charge for 5 minutes.

The key word there is "under the watch" - Kahn will be gone by 2012 when they're playing together (Rubio and Favors), so he'll be watching them on TV.

The article from yesterday has started a feeding frenzy from the big-time pundits.  Again, I'm not sold on Khan but after doing things like trading Foye and Miller for Rubio he doesn't deserve to get hammered like this.  IMO he needs to turn over the limelight to Ronzone cause he's bad in front of the camera.

Simmons is an idiot

And is still crying about not being in the running for the MN GM job. Disregard his opinion completely, he needs to stick to solely writing Celtic articles, its really all he’s useful for.

And yes, Simmons is an ass.

I told him so when he picked Bledsoe for us at #4, then stopped reading (yes, I know he was kidding). What a tool.

If anyone is

still in the chat, Simmons ripped Kahn in the begining, but he can’t even correctly state who has the 16th pick.

sportsguy33: 16. Minnesota: Patrick Patterson, PF. Insurance in case Z-Bo has to do some time…

sportsguy33: Whoops – I brainfarted my last pick, No. 16 belongs to Memphis (not Minnesota)

sportsguy33: Interesting, never heard that about CDR. Whoops, Minny still owns No. 16 so I’m giving them…

by thealmtyb on Jun 23, 2010 2:24 PM CDT up reply actions

Haha

amazes me how dumb some of these sportswriters can be.

by LoveTo on Jun 23, 2010 2:39 PM CDT up reply actions

He is pumping up our trade value though
sportsguy33: If I were running an NBA team, I’d be pulling out all the stops for Jefferson and/or Love. Love would be a huge asset on a fast-tempo team with good guards and Jefferson had become one of the top-15 players in the league before he blew out his knee… that’s a two-year injury; I bet he has a big season this year.

by Ebomb on Jun 23, 2010 1:01 PM CDT reply actions

He's actually right about Al

How quickly we’ve forgotten how great a healthy Al is. Even player x stated that the players in the league consider Al the best post scorer in basketball.

by Powerslave777 on Jun 23, 2010 1:09 PM CDT up reply actions

Yeah, but

He also thought the 7 for Love was fair value.

He likes a few of our guys (Al, Love, Rubio)…..he just wants them off the team. Weather that’s because he thinks they couldn’t do well together or he just wants to spite Kahn or he’s hurt for not being “considered for the GM position,” I dunno.

by googoleeoottooooleeoottooooleeeatta on Jun 23, 2010 1:42 PM CDT up reply actions

Yeah

I love how he picks Cousins for us and then talks about what a horrible fit he would be on our team. That’s brilliant GMing!

by NYCVike on Jun 23, 2010 1:07 PM CDT reply actions

?

He said take best player available which would be cousins. Thats what good gm’s do. Are you still confused?

by Chad Bird on Jun 23, 2010 1:23 PM CDT up reply actions

How does this guy still have a job.

He holds grudges like nobody I’ve ever seen. Aren’t sports writers supposed to be unbiased?

This guy is the biggest moron around.

by Bad News Wolves on Jun 23, 2010 1:07 PM CDT reply actions

Well...

Maybe he has a job because he’s a very good writer – in a Pat Ruesse kind of way.

I don’t like Simmon’s continual bashing and I really don’t like his love of every Boston team (who I mostly dislike) but he is a very entertaining & knowledgable writer for the most part.

Kahn will come out of this looking like an evil genious.

When you draft 3 point guards in the first round you are going to get some criticism. We have assets, picks, and cap space. Hopefully Kahn is as smart as he looks/portrays.

by Chad Bird on Jun 23, 2010 1:11 PM CDT reply actions

Then he ruins the franchise and they’re sold and moved in under 5 years, honestly, how many $20M loss season can Taylor take? But hey we still have Tubby and the Gophs, but oh that’s right, Tubby won’t recruit one and dones, oh well, we know we won’t be winning any Big Ten titles any time soon!!!!

by AnotherDraftPickBitesTheDust on Jun 23, 2010 2:14 PM CDT up reply actions

I would love to have Kahn

flat out say he would draft 5 centers if they were BPA and make trades as necessary just to hear Simmons rant.

No one is getting Rubio's rights unless they pry them from our cold dead fingers.

Wow. That 3-point-guard straw man argument again.

Nice analysis. You really made a legitimate point there.

by nextmove on Jun 23, 2010 5:37 PM CDT up reply actions

It's true

Especially when the only legit free agent you signed is also a point guard.

by BetterLaettnerThanRider on Jun 23, 2010 9:36 PM CDT up reply actions

I'm not so confident with Kahn

He did make a good trade for the 5th pick last year that turned out better than we could imagine. He’s also made some foolish moves and seems to make trades just to show that he’s busy. I know that he’s pledged working hard but he should borrow an adage from the previous regime “We don’t go into trades trying to make the other team better.”

The grudge continued

[Comment From BC]
Earlier you guys were hating on Wolves’ GM David Kahn, why is that? His draft last year he accumulated some pretty valuable assets and he’s made no bone headed trades along the way. Now if only the NBA season were to shift to the summer these free agents would get to see what Minnesota living is all aboot!
3:32

sportsguy33: Let’s see… he picked Flynn at No. 6, which immediately convinced Rubio to go back to Spain for 3 years (when he can then come back with a deal that’s not a rookie contract), and by the way, he missed Stephen Curry who was a better fit with Rubio and a better prospect than Flynn. Other than that, he nailed that draft.
3:34

sportsguy33: And to compound it: He picked Lawson 18, then traded him for a future No. 1 that wasn’t as high, then overpaid Ramon Sessions who stinks when he could have just kept Lawson… who might have a better career than Flynn, ironically

and then the reader comment he choose to publish.

[Comment From kevin love]
dont forget kahn hired a coach who stuck me on the bench, ran the triangle with a young team and played our worst lineup as our starters, and our best lineup the least amount of time. kahns a stud

And after he screwed up a pick and wanted to take it back, this was the reader comment he posted.

[Comment From David Kahn, MN]
Wait, can I take back my bad picks, too?

by googoleeoottooooleeoottooooleeeatta on Jun 23, 2010 2:45 PM CDT reply actions

I fail to see the valid criticism

He says we shouldn’t have drafted a point guard after drafting Rubio but then goes on to say that we should have drafted Curry and kept Lawson. Then he goes on to say that we messed up trading the 18th pick for a worse pick in a future draft which is completely untrue unless I’m worse at math than I thought. Pretty sure 16 is a better pick than 18.

by Bethke on Jun 23, 2010 2:49 PM CDT up reply actions   1 recs

Well said

The complaint of Flynn over Curry is valid, but hindsight is 20-20. How many other picks look bad in hindsight? 80%? Why is Kahn the sacrificial lamb for every hindsight mistake?

by Powerslave777 on Jun 23, 2010 2:59 PM CDT up reply actions

If you wanna know what I think of his opinion

see what I just posted a few lines up, he can’t even perform his mock draft in the correct order. A little criticism is ok and maybe even deserved, but he goes out of his way to do it and it is pretty obvious he is holding a grudge. He should spend more time learning the correct order of the draft and less time thinking of ways to insult MN/Kahn.

Chad Ford:

“The Wolves have been discussing a deal with the Grizzlies that would send Al Jefferson to Memphis for Zach Randolph.”

by LoveTo on Jun 23, 2010 2:57 PM CDT reply actions

If we get

Z-Bo the small bit of hope that was left for drating Cousins is completely gone. If this happens I pray Favors falls or we make a trade with the pick. As always rumors will fly before the draft so who knows what truth there is to this. Thanks for the post though, I have been following the chat on ESPN but must have missed that comment by Ford.

by thealmtyb on Jun 23, 2010 3:01 PM CDT up reply actions

wait a second

isn’t Z-Bo’s deal only have a year left? Wouldn’t that basically be trading Al for a version of himself that expires at the end of the year? how would that preclude us from Drafting Cousins or Favors?

No one is getting Rubio's rights unless they pry them from our cold dead fingers.

by TheEvilProfessor on Jun 23, 2010 3:17 PM CDT up reply actions

I wasn't trying to say it would keep us from drafting Favors

but I do think its keeps us from drafting Cousins. Two headcases on one team does not work. Cousins will need a good mentor, Z-Bo should be nowhere near Cousins it would only end bad. Maybe we tell Z-Bo to stay away like we did Blount or maybe we flip Z-Bo quickly, but if not I just can’t see Cousins on the same team as Z-Bo.

What is was trying to say was I pray Favors falls to us and we draft him since if he doesn’t we will likely end up with Johnson since I don’t feel we’ll take Cousins in that scenario. Sorry if the comment was a bit confusing.

by thealmtyb on Jun 23, 2010 3:33 PM CDT up reply actions

yeah

no way Kahn would let a garbage piece dictate who he would pick. If he traded for Bo it would be to sit him at home…or in his jail cell.

No one is getting Rubio's rights unless they pry them from our cold dead fingers.

by TheEvilProfessor on Jun 23, 2010 4:10 PM CDT up reply actions

Or to send him to Philly...

as an expiring, along with #12 and maybe #23, for 2 and Brand.

by LoveTo on Jun 23, 2010 4:33 PM CDT up reply actions

where he can still stay in his jail cell?

:)

I just can’t see Taylor shelling out that kind of money unless it was for a winning season. I can see how Taylor would do the Al for ZBo and 12 to get George as an athletic swing if he is there and get out of Al’s contract. This gives them serious room to extend any player’s deal or trade for any player they want in the next offseason.

No one is getting Rubio's rights unless they pry them from our cold dead fingers.

I don't buy this at all

Z-Bo? They’re gonna trade for the pot king of Indianapolis? No. Even at my darkest “Kahn is a MORON1!1” moments, I can’t believe he’d do that, at this time.

So, Kahn is talking about flipping Al for an expiring. Interesting. Even if it doesn’t happen, it’s a bad sign for Al’s trade value if it’s being seriously discussed.

heart of a champion, will of the warrior.

by cap'n hack on Jun 23, 2010 4:52 PM CDT up reply actions

I think its official

that Al is undervalued by quite a bit. I’m starting to think we have no choice but to play him again this year and trade him at the mid-way point. I really think this next year will be his best ever after being in year 2 since the knee injury and the work he’s putting in off the court. He needs to be moved, but giving him away will hurt us too much in the long run.

by NYCVike on Jun 23, 2010 6:05 PM CDT up reply actions

i'd go the other way...

..he’s overvalued by the wolves by a fairly substantial margin. he’s 25 entering his 7th year in the league with nearly 12,000 minutes and a bum knee on a 15 win team. i think other teams in the league have a fairly solid handle on exactly what big al jefferson is all about. the wolves are beginning to figure out what the rest of the league already knows about the guy and it sucks because he was supposed to be the cornerstone of the kg trade.
