On top of that, Gomes is an famously generous, open and friendly guy. He’s one of the only players I’ve met who seems to enjoy shooting the breeze about basketball as much as pasty nerds like me; he was routinely the last player in the locker room after a painful loss, patiently humoring reporters. Being a 5’10″ white dude in an NBA locker room can be a little intimidating; discovering that there was a player willing to look you in the eye and have an actual human conversation made things feel a lot less daunting. I appreciate that.
Amazingly, he seemed able to relate to his teammates even better than he did to reporters. Over and over I saw Gomes seek out frustrated or disgruntled players and, with his funny, rapid-fire banter, bring them back into the fold. Anyone wondering why, during three years of constant, punishing futility, the Wolves never devolved into a churning, fractious mess should look no further than Ryan Gomes.
Ben gives a wonderful appreciation of Ryan Gomes over at Hoopus fav A Wolf Among Wolves.

There was never a question about Gomes being a good guy.
I’m pretty sure that he’ll find himself on a playoff team as a role player, especially with that buyout money in his pocket.
It was a good appreciation post.
They had to get rid of Gomes
to fit Johnson in under the cap for the amount of Good Guys you can have on one team.
Though
I’ve heard that Webster is a pretty good guy too.

He was a good guy
but he lacked drive. Probably because of all of the continued losing.
A Brief Excerpt, Starring Ryan Gomes and Al Jefferson
RG: Hey pal, what’s got you feeling so blue?
AJ: It’s the losing. It’s starting to get to me. I think I’m going to go get drunk to forget about it…
RG: Alright friend, just remember, slightly buzzed you can still drive home!
AJ: Thanks Ryan! You’re such a great guy!
Buckeyes are red, Wildcats are blue,
I wanted Evan Turner, But DeMarcus Cousins will do.
I should note
Ryan Gomes’ witty sarcasm was not apparent to Big Al… %or apparently the transcriber.
Buckeyes are red, Wildcats are blue,
I wanted Evan Turner, But DeMarcus Cousins will do.
That was borderline tasteless

I dont mind
making fun of people (Al Jefferson) who do stupid things (drive drunk). Sorry if that offends you.
Unless you think talking about people drowning their sorrows in liquor is tasteless…. then you have a scary world awaiting you outside your house.
Buckeyes are red, Wildcats are blue,
I wanted Evan Turner, But DeMarcus Cousins will do.
Yes I understand that part
But you are not a saint and neither am I. We all make mistakes, some are just dumber than others.

I'm glad you started a Gomes appreciation thread
I was going to start one after reading the Martell Webster appreciation thread in the Blazersedge (which got me really excited about that acquisition by the way). The fact that the Wolves were losing a classy guy and beloved teammate got swept aside in the chaos/excitement/disappointment of the draft and I’m glad you brought it up. I think Gomes could have been a really good player for the Wolves under different circumstances and may make a great addition to some other team. He never really worked out here, but I don’t think you can fault him, he was asked to play in a system or role that didn’t really fit him on a team that was struggling. And yet, he never seemed to complain or let it get him down. I think the Wolves and their fans will miss him much more than his stats might indicate. I wish him best of luck on whatever team is fortunate enough to land him.
