Community Draft Board, pt. 2
John Wall has nabbed the #1 spot on the Hoopus Community Draft Board. Who should be #2 on the Wolves' list?

Favors
Defense, rebounding, rare combination of strength/athleticism, and seemingly fits oh-so-well with Rubio… – plus it means deals will be made.

Turner
He has the ball in his hands, the others don’t, therefore he is in a better position to impose his will on games, especially in end-of-game scenarios.
Amazes me that people vote for Turner over Cousins or Favors.
Turner was an excellent college player, but you can’t draft an earthbound SG at #2.
I’m sure he’ll be a fine pro, but we need a HR, not a double.
Earthbound?
Turner’s max vert is a half inch below Dwyane Wade’s, equal to Andre Iguodala’s and better than Danny Granger’s, Tyreke Evans’, Kevin Durant’s and Carmelo Anthony’s. He’s not elite athletically, but he’s no slouch.
Kevin Love
Love’s no-step is half an inch less than John Wall. Love’s max vert is equal to Wade’s. Jumping to slap sticks isolated in a gym is a relatively poor way to measure either athleticism or in-game leaping ability.
Jonny has a 7’ 11.5" reach and a 40" max vertical. In theory, he should be able to tap his fingers at 11’ 6" – which is the top of the square. Ever see him get near that? Love’s reach-leap combo puts him 3" over the square. Ever see him get anywhere near that?
Not criticizing anybody, just pointing out that in-game athleticism is one of the few things where I generally trust my eyes over the ruler.
I'll hold your monkey.
Turner has a nice measured vertical, but his game is earthbound.
I like Turner, don’t get me wrong, but he does not have the kind of game at SG that can make him a super-star. All-Star, but not super-star. I think Cousins and Favors might be super stars and I hope we end up with one of them.
If Turner falls to us – fine, good pick-up and he’ll be steady, but we’ll still be looking for our Star player.
Jonny can really, really hop.
Did you look at the mix video yesterday or the day before?

Way too much emphasis is being put on athleticism
with Turner. Yes, the absolute elite Wade/Kobe/Jordan/Lebron cadre of wings came into the league with out of this world athleticism. But go to the next tier down – Paul Pierce, Carmello Anthony, Kevin Durant, Danny Granger, Manu Ginobilli – none of those guys exhibit the type of athleticism that people seem to demand Turner must exhibit, yet all are top-notch talents in this league.

Ginobili is a great example
I think Turner could turn into Ginobili, which would be very good. But he’s not going to touch Durant and probably not end up in Pierce/Anthony territory either, but I’d agree that is his ceiling and it’s possible.
OK
The vote as of the time I am writing this post is 162 for Turner, and 36 for Favors AND Cousins combined.
This is why I have been getting frustrated lately reading comments from people saying they wouldn’t give up more than the #16 to go from Cousins to Turner in the draft. If Turner is valued by almost 5 to 1 over the next two prospects combined, how can he only be worth the #16 pick (which has a 2/3 chance of flopping) to get the guy who is universally considered the 2nd best prospect (all things considered, not just UPSIDE) for the Wolves in this draft?
Turner with 5x votes of Cousins+Favors =/= Turner 5x better than Favors + Cousins
All this vote says is that we, as a whole, like Turner more than Favors and Cousins. Nothing more. Nothing less.
Or
The Timberwolves badly need, 5x more, a decent SG.

Mhm
But we don’t have the option of simply choosing Turner of Cousins. It then becomes a question of how much it’s worth to move up, which is where the argument starts because of how diveregent the opinions are on where Turner and Cousins stand as prospects. I think they’re fairly even, talent-wise, with Cousins possibyl even having an advantage due to his legit size, so I wouldn’t want to give much up to move up and get Turner solely on the basis of fit.
When I get sad, I stop being sad and be awesome instead. True story.
In agreement
I’m a “pick who falls to 4” guy for the actual draft day. And I’ve seen too many of these things to think it’s set in stone that Cousins is the guy who falls to 4, though I certainly wouldn’t mind it if he did.
Just hope it's not Favors
imho

Idd, I just think Turner is that little bit better … not by much, but if we have to pick one .. it’s him.

Turner with only 78%
Weird that we’ve had so much talk about giving up major assets for the number 2 pick and we don’t have more of a consensus over who we’d want there. I figured Turner would be 90%+. The consensus BPA who’s tailor made for our system, and some of us would rather get cute with Favors or Cousins?
Can't help it that I'm cute

How can you say "tailor made"?
A ball-dominant SG who’ll never have the Kobe/LeBron/Wade ability to slash, elevate and finish at the basket – how does that fit our team perfectly?
He’s a nice player, but debate between him, Cousins and Favors seems reasonable.
I would give up the 4, 16, and 23 for Turner
Might as well go all-in if that’s what it takes. Just not taking Brand AND giving the 4.
Whereas I would prefer the picks
I like taking brand and giving up any of our assets (except #4) for Philly’s pick or Iggy. Of course, I’m spending GTs money and not my own, so it’s more palatable. Of course, if we use our fourth pick for Wes or trade down, I won’t be spending MY money on tickets or using my time to watch games.

Wait 'till next draft.
The pressures that got US college players all declaring for this one are having exactly the opposite effect on European players.
Next spring, by contrast, the buyout is going to scare off all the NCAA players. Euros, on the other hand, can declare and get chosen somewhat higher, then ride out the labor strife with their teams across the Atlantic.
It’s going to be an odd experience next summer around.

LOCKOUT, not "buyout." Duh.

The problem with waiting to see who falls
As I see it, Philadelphia will take Turner or Cousins unless they move down. NJ seems to like Favors a lot, but mostly when its assumed Turner won’t be there and Cousins wouldn’t work with Lopez. However, if the 76ers take Cousins, I would bet that NJ would take Turner as he is fills a big need for them. That leaves Favors to fall to us, which would add one more PF to our crowded house already, so we’d likely opt for Johnson, making Sacramento the luckiest team in the world!
