For those of you unfamiliar with Paul George of Fresno State, go here now: http://www.draftexpress.com/article/Paul-George-Workout-and-Interview-3495/
That article and video ought to be all you need to go crazy about this kid. My thoughts below the jump...
That article from draft express pretty much shows that Paul George is exactly what this team needs. Think Rudy Gay with more defensive potential. He's huge (6-9, 214), can handle the ball, can shoot the lights out, and has been given credit in scouting reports for his ability to defend. the only real knock against this kid is that he played weak-sauce competition at Fresno State.
With all the recent talk about trading down from the #4 spot, I think George is the perfect direction to go. How about we send #4 and #16 to Golden State for #4 and Anthony Randolph? We can move Love or Big Al later on in the year for more value based on how they're playing or to a team than finds itself with an injured PF (think Portland wouldn't trade Fernandez and Batum for Love or Al if Aldridge goes down? That might be a lopsided deal but you get my drift)
With that #6 pick, George should still be available and we'd recoup the loss of the 16th pick with a young talent like Randolph. Evan without the Randolph trade however, I still think this team's gotta shoot for George.
He's younger than Wes Johnson and he fills the exact need this team has (maybe even more than Turner). Though Turner is clearly the better player at this point, George shows more potential of being a go-to scorer (where Turner seems to be more the facilitator). I'm not arguing that we should have George ahead of Turner on our draft board, I'm just saying that if Turner is unavailable at #4 (or #6 if we trade down), George ought to be our #1 target.
Thoughts? Am I way off?
