So what if it turns out Kahn is right?
Perhaps the two European big men we signed turn out to play at the level we expect them to. Perhaps Kahn's plan that he is enacting of creating a long running team works out? What happens when our team develops, plays some good ball, and in a few years is in the playoffs? What do all these media people say then?
What I am saying is that I am just getting tired of the constant ridiculing and nit picking by these so-called 'experts.' Now, I am not pretending to know more than them, and it does get old pretending all we do is get picked on. But seriously?
We drafted the best player for our team is Wes Johnson, and people say, well that was an easy pick. We trade an asset that was not worth much, plus another offensive/defenseless player for a guy who is perfect to run and play defense, and we get ridiculed. And can you imagine that we got blasted for taking another guy who fits our team, with the always valuable 30th pick?
Add to that we just added the best Euro big man, along with a legit NBA center who can do everything well that you need a center to do, albeit not exceptional, for a very reasonable salary? Would we be made fun of for paying another 25 year old center who plays the same game, but with another name? Don't you think that perhaps our front office would get some credit for following a plan, and collecting players that are going cheaper than the value they play at?
Do I even need to mention we have the right to the best European NBA prospect? Why does David Kahn only get hate?
But I digress, maybe I should examine how many obvious mistakes David Kahn has made in his tenure.
1) Jonny Flynn
2) Ryan Hollins' contract
How many good moves has he made? He has correctly identified that Kevin Love is our premiere PF, his team has developed Brewer to the point were he is able to change a game in our favor, plus all the terrific moves he has made to create a team this offseason?
But again, I am getting a bit carried away. I am not trying to convince anybody here that what Kahn's doing is right, but rather, what is going to happen if all these moves turn out to be good? We have gotten made fun of and laughed at for every move we have made since Rubio got drafted. Are Chad Ford, Bill Simmons, our own beat writers, are they they going to write a big article apologizing for all the uneccesary, unwaranted shit they gave us?
Of course not. They won't even make note that they jumped on the 'make fun of the Wolves' bandwagon. They won't look back and realize that they unequivocally said Kahn was an idiot without independently assessing each move we made.
Instead, these ESPN writers, bloggers, and 'experts' from all over will just say, 'Oh, looks like the Wolves are playing well this year.'
And that is what drives me crazy every time someone makes fun of Kahn, and our players, and our team. Some things have gone bad, but many things are looking up for us and going well, and all anybody wants to do is say how messed up we are. After the last few days, and the draft, and all season of hearing how stupid every step the Wolves' take is, well, I just wanted to get my frustration out, and call out every body who thought they were too smart to bother with our team, and didn't take the time to see all the good things that are happening here.

Signing Rudy Gay and David Lee still don't make sense
unless there is more roster overhaul. The glowing positive so far for Kahn is that none of the contracts that he has handed out will significantly hamper the organization going forward. Let’s hope that continues with Gay and Lee.

Um..yay?
No
I am on board with Flynn being young in a new system. He will be fine, but at this point it is also clear better players were on the board.
This
I think is the only thing you and I disagree about. I didn’t like Flynn when we drafted him, like him even less now. I’d have sent him to Indy in a heartbeat for the 10th. I also would have take Steph Curry ahead of him, and it wasn’t really all that close in my book, then and now.
Just cause you look the part don't mean you can play....ask Manute Bol.
after this year
I think it becomes much easier to predict what Flynn is and isn’t. If he can actually play D and not dribble the ball into the ground, then he will be a very nice player. Afterall, at some point he will get the foul calls and his production will increase pretty dramatically at some point. If he can’t, then bench player (where I hear most don’t have to play d at all).
No one is getting Rubio's rights unless they pry them from our cold dead fingers.

I didn't want to get into the Flynn debate in this post
So I left it simple. I am very pro Flynn. He has been unfairly critisized and has a TON of room to grow. He will be a very good player for and I am honestly happy we have him.
But also, at this point it also seems that better players were left on the board. So that is why its a mistake.
Plus, if I left the Flynn pick off, it would of stirred up more trouble than putting him in, and my post wasn’t about each move in particular.
Hahahha
i think its funny how right now at this point in time we are criticizing the Ryan Hollins deal but if someone would take the time to go back and look at the posts when we signed him a majority of us said “what a great pickup….loads of potential……reasonable contract” lol
Kahn is a fraud...
…I used to be a Kahn supporter but he has totally lost me this off-season. You don’t become a good team by building your roster from the bottom up. The model that works is to get/trade/draft two or three star players and let the rest figure itself out later. Signing Darko to a four-year deal before signing any other free agents just shows how little commitment ownership has to actually winning.
Kahn is building a team that won’t win more than 35 games at any time in his time as GM. It’s really quite pathetic and I’m shocked there are still people who believe in him. He’s a snake oil salesman. Flynn over Curry and Johnson over Cousins will haunt the Timberwolves franchise.

Nice write up
I have been wanting to write something similar since the draft, you saved me the time. I’ll add a couple things. The Ryan Gomes deal no longer looks as bad, considering Portland dumped him for the privilege of paying him about $3 million. There is a lot of debate on Webster, but looking at what role players are signing for right now, the deal looks better every day. Not panicking and selling Jefferson for half price is also going to pay off when they get something decent, or at least major salary relief trading Jefferson in a month. While Hollins isn’t a great contract, they can probably send him to a free agency loser this summer in a salary dump. Ramon Sessions may have a valuable contract this summer as well.
Not sure Kahn can get credit for the crazy offer Memphis made Gay, but without the Wolves in the mix, I doubt they make that big of an offer…give Kahn credit for taking any future flexibility from a competitor.
