Looking at last years "2 guards" according to ESPN statistics, here are the options the Twolves would look at, being they fit the age and position aspect. Jamal Crawford, Monta Ellis, OJ Mayo, Andre Iguodala, Jason Richardson, JR Smith, John Salmons, Marcus Thornton, Courtney Lee, and Stephen Jackson. The other SG out there are either too old (Ginobili, Terry, Carter, Allen) or untouchable (Kobe, Wade, J. Johnson). Of this list, presumably they could all be had, but the price might be steep. Looking at it from a Wins Share perspective, the best are in this order...
Crawford, Salmons, Iguodala, Richardson, Mayo, Jackson, Thornton, Lee, Smith, Ellis.
Realistically, who can we think about getting?
Crawford- possibly, since Johnson just signed that massive contract, but they won't take back Al's would they? Salmons is on the wrong side of 30 and just resigned.
Iggy is on our wish list, but I don't know how we get him.
Richardson is on the wrong side of 30 and Al doesn't fit their offense.
Mayo is young but salary matching would be difficut, and not sure they would want Al.
Jackson is old and cranky, especially for a losing team.
Thornton had a good first year, but is on a cheap rookie contract. If we took back Okafor, would they bite?
Lee isn't much better than Brewer (more offense, less defense).
JR Smith is a knuckle head with a good jump shot.
Ellis is a scorer who isn't overly efficient and poorer defender.
The next tough one would be the salary match...because I am assuming Al Jefferson is the trade bait dangled. Is it possible we trade Al for Dampiers non-guaranteed contract and then move that contract for someon above? Or do we work a 3 way trade somehow?
So who do we get? What is realistic? Anyone else we should throw in there that I overlooked?
