I think everyone needs to review our roster and answer this simple question...
"How long will it be until the Wolves contend for a championship?"
Because after looking at our roster and our salary cap info, I believe we are F'd. We'll discuss under the jump...
Here is our current 2010/11 roster...
PG: Flynn/Sessions
SG: Webster/Brewer/Ellington
SF: W. Johnson/Hayward
PF: Love/Pekovic
C: Milicic/Pekovic/Hollins
We also have about 5 million in Salary Cap Space. It seems pretty obvious that Al will be traded so I did not include him. Wins produced would project this team to win 31 games** and that's not including whatever Al nets us in a trade. Considering the Mavs recently wouldn't consider trading Al for Dampier's contract...well I'm less then enthusiastic about what we could get for Al.
So entering 2011 what would we have?
- a 31 win team comprised of players mostly in their prime.
- Ricky Rubio (hopefully)
- Probably the 9th pick in the NBA Draft (if we won 31 games last year, we would have picked 9th)
- No Cap Space
Entering 2012 what would we have?
- A team that is one year older comprised of players mostly in their prime.
- No first round pick (Clippers)
- No Cap Space.
So my question to anyone still supporting Kahn is how does this team project to contend for a championship at any point in the next 3 years? And if we aren't trying to build a championship contender, then what the hell are we doing?
**(For my Wins Produced projection, I gave Wesley Johnson the equivalent of Rudy Gay in his 2nd year (.038) and NIkola Pekovic the equivalent of Luis Scola in his first year (.147)
