10-11 more wins in 2010-11
Courtside Analyst suggests that the Twolves will win 9-12 more games next year, just by getting rid of the chaff.

best quote
The team’s overall performance and effort level last season was so bad, I don’t know how he remains as head coach. I have no idea how he survived the off-season.
seriously. Kahn needs to make like Sam Presti and fire Rambis pronto if this team starts out horribly. PJ Carlisemo == Kurt Rambis and Bill Laimbeer == Scott Brooks ?
Rambis played the part of the obedient soldier last year
Hopefully this year, he just plays his best players.
Small quibble
Yet they did not add length in the draft… so their defense has no chance of substantial improvement.
Incorrect. They added Martell Webster and Lazar Wes Johnson through the draft, and they both represent a massive upgrade over Wilkins and Gomes defensively. Hence
One area I look at when I’m looking at a team’s effort, particularly its defensive effort, is "Opponent Assists". The NBA average assist per made field goal is 56%. It has stood at that percentage for some three decades.
Last season Minnesota allowed assists on 62% of made field goals. That indicates to me, or at least suggests to me, that the Timberwolves perimeter defenders were applying ZERO ball pressure on the outside.
has already been taken care of and should improve dramatically. In fact it is the upgrade defensively at the SG and SF positions that I think will be the source for most of our improvement.
As for Rambis = Carlisemo, I don’t buy it. I’m of the school that Rambis wasn’t coaching to win last year, and he is this year, thus I am judging him on this year. That is why he wasn’t fired this off-season. Why would you fire your hand picked coach when you have 4 – Love, Flynn, Ellington, and Brewer – guys returning from last year’s 15 win squad? You win with players, you lose with players. As this blog post/analysis points out, we’re going to be a lot better.

I hope you are correct about Rambis not coaching to win last year
All I’m saying is that if he does try to win this year and the wolves start 1-15, it may not be the time to exercise patience.
Also, I think the author meant length as in front-court length. He choose he words poorly, but I think that’s what he meant. At least, that’s the only meaning that is consistent with him not being a complete idiot.
I think you are right about that last bit. The quote about not adding length came right after he talked about interior defense. Of course the belief is that Darko will help improve the D in that area. The few time I saw him play last year he seemed to do a nice job defensively. Adding Pek should help I’d he use that brute strength we’ve been hearing about to push player away from the hoop. All in all a nice write up.

So many typos
How embarrassing.

OK
even if it is front court length, let’s consider it (defensively), from last year to this year:
Kevin Love = Kevin Love
Darko > Hollins (sizewise and defensively)
Pek > or = Big Al (bigger size, looks like a better defender)
Beasley > Stewie or Jawai (gives up a lot of size, but just a better ball player in general)
I guess I just don’t see how it’s possible that we’re smaller than we were last year, as Darko and Pek together are larger than Hollins and Al, the two guys whose minutes they’ll be taking (for the most part). In terms of defensive ability, Darko and Pek again are the clear superior combo when compared to Big Al and Hollins, right? Am I taking crazy pills here?
I guess when I personally look at our bigs I see a massive defensive upgrade, both in individual talent (a more modest upgrade here, no Dwight Howard types were added) but most especially in how these guys can all compliment each other (their group defense will be better than the sum of their individual talents). The thing about Big Al and Hollins wasn’t that they were such size/physical liabilities on the defensive end, but it was (to me) the combination of average at best size with an apparent inability to play defense in a manner that augmented the defensive play of others. Instead it was like watching a bunch of individual guys trying to do their little bit while standing around watching other guys fail. That was the revelation of Darko, to me – here’s what it looks like to have a guy who can play individually but also move around to help out other guys in very subtle ways. You can play offense effectively on an island, but no team is successful defensively if everyone’s on an island.

I agree
I wasn’t trying to argue the guys point. Just trying to clarify that he wasn’t talking about length on the wings.

I think 25 wins is the best we can expect
Frankly, if we get through the season with 25 wins, I’d be friggin’ ecstatic. We’d essentially be doing it with a minimum wage payroll and a potential game changer still in the pipeline (Rubio). It would also mean someone other than Kevin Love steps up this season.
My personal opinion is we’ll struggle to get to 20 wins, which is why to me 25 would be huge.
Well, did anyone predict we'd be sub-20 last season?
Around these parts everyone had us pegged for 25 – 32 wins.

I wasn't around for that.
Hartman and Friends thinks we will be lucky to win nine games. I guess if you look at just this years roster alone it’s not all that impressive. However if you compare it to last years team that won 15 games it looks a lot better. I would be surprised if all that improvement doesn’t net us at least five more wins.

For those hating Rambis while projecting more wins...
read about the influence Rambis is having on personnel decisions this year:
For the seriously blinded (not physically), please note that Rambis didn’t join the Wolves until August 12, 2009, too late to influence Kahn’s shifting of the deck chairs:

Last year reminds me of 2K10
When I start a franchise I gut the roster and sign a bunch of crappy guys to cheap one year contracts. Sound familiar?

Ya
Great read. It’s definitely going to be the year where we see what Rambis’ coaching chops are (or aren’t).

Even if it is only 25 wins
Don’t fire Rambis yet. This coaching Merry-Go-Round has to stop wtih the Wolves. Every time we bring in a new coach with a new system/scheme/philosophy it becomes another rebuild. Give him at least until Rubio arrives and plays a full two years since that will be the second coming%
