On the eve of "LeBron Declares" celebration telethon, Kevin Durant calmly and coolly re-ups with the Thunder for an additional 5 years. Rather than have reporters and cameramen chasing him in Chicago, like D-Wade and Bosh, KD declines to be interviewed twice on NBA TV. He would rather be there cheering on his Summer League team mates in Orlando even though roughly half the team will be fortunate to experience a minute on an NBA roster.
In his own understated way, KD has set the right example for all NBA players to follow. It's simple, enjoy the game and be a leader for others to follow. KD is not worried about how his brand will be impacted by his actions, he's just there because he loves the game and appreciates the rewards that come from his labor.
It was funny, when the Lakers eliminated the Thunder, KD was asked about how much rest he will take before starting up again. He responded by saying his parents told him to forget basketball for a week, but he went out within two days after the final game and he hasn't stopped yet.
KD is much more than a tremendous basketball player. Deep down, we fans can only envy the kind of loyalty that he brings to the game and his Thunder.
