This is why the Nets were smart not to get desperate this summer
Lots of people wrote their summer off as a failure, but they kept their powder dry and now they're in position to move on Carmelo or any other significant moving part. The Wolves will be in a similar spot come the trading deadline.
(The four-way deal described also has Andrei Kirilenko going to Denver. That's not just an expiring deal moving; it's also Utah's defensive stalwart, just when they've added Al Jefferson and his questionable D to their mix. I was sort of counting on AK47 to help Jerry Sloan patch that situation up.... They'd be getting Boris Diaw back, supposedly, which means a versatile defender in exchange. Interesting, and good for their short-term cap number.)

true true
but personally, I would roll with the team I have if I were the Nets. They signed Morrow, Outlaw and Graham…with T.Williams on the uprise and a new coach – who by most accounts is excellent. They should be a low seed playoff team this year as is.
I’d think long and hard about giving up someone like Favors, and a high pick for a whiny bitch like ’Melo…on a max contract.
Think how smart they'll look though
if Favors never lives anywhere near his expectations and Melo plays like he has been without any ‘tude. Basically Harris and Favors for Melo? That’s not awful if Favors doesn’t become a stud. If he does… well it’s probably not a bad bet to take when you’re getting Melo at least.

I completely understand that rational
and you are absolutely correct. WIth Melo, they get a “star” without the waiting, or guessing. I suppose my comment speaks more toward my distaste for Melo. Melo will put butts in seats, and they should be decent at minimum. I suppose I don’t appreciate his talents as much as some. I think he’s pretty one dimensional and not worth a max contract. They didn’t really do anything until Chauncey arrived. And, it really bothers me when athletes just decide they want to be somewhere else. So, it’s not that it’s a bad decision, I just disagree.
That coupled with years and years of being a t-pups fan has made me blindingly optimistic about untapped talent/potential/athleticism, especially in younger players.
How on earth has being a Wolves fan had that effect?
Because you’ve seen so many talented youngsters reach stardom here? :)
I agree
in terms of basketball. But you hit the nail on the head in terms of putting butts in seats. Melo will pay for a max contract in terms of a business decision. A lot more so than Harris and Favors (at least for the next year or two) anyways. I agree that he is overrated though.

Count me as a skeptic about Favors.
He’s a great kid supposedly, but that draft choice is based on “looks the part” almost exclusively. We all could make the various rationalizations about Derrick F. work if we wanted to, but his actual production on the court, well…. That was a tough decision to face for hypothetical-GM-me.
(I’d have taken him above Wes Johnson because of age and position, but neither of them seemed like the top of a draft class.)
