David Kahn Webchat

JT: What are the team’s biggest needs? Athletic big, consistent scorer at the 2 guard, point guard, or something else? David Kahn: We need to play better defense and reduce the amount of turnovers, especially those that lead to easy fastbreaks with the opponents. Those are more team needs than individual needs but that is what we need. JT: What is you assessment of Ricky Rubio’s development and if he is in a Wolves’ uniform next year will their style of play change any to accommodate his strengths? David Kahn: I believe that Ricky Rubio will be in a Timberwolves uniform next season. He has a buyout at the end of this season so it was always contemplated that he would be coming to the NBA his second year. I think when he is on the floor, we will become more of a running team becuase of his ability to push the pace. JT: Do you think the Wolves roster has a good enough mix in terms of young guys and veteran guys? David Kahn: No. I think one of the things we will need to address this off season is to become a little bit more experienced across the board. Mike: I'm a senior at one of the Twin Cities Area High Schools and sports has always been an interest in my life. I am thinking of pursuing a degree in Sports Management and was wondering if you had any suggestions on colleges to apply to? (I have already been accepted to Minnesota State, Mankato. I felt this was a good decision because of their numerous internship possibilities.) Thank you. David Kahn: There are many fine programs around the country. What's just as important is to begin networking with people in the industry and becoming persistent about chasing your dreams. Brad: Have you been watching Nemanja Bjelica at all playing in Europe? David Kahn: I saw Nemanja play numerous times this summer at the World Championships in Turkey. He is not playing much for his team in Spain this season but we knew that going in. His coach is notorious for not playing first year players. ts: Are you planning on making any moves before this years trade deadline? David Kahn: We are looking at a number of things but it's still early to say if we will do something or not. Most teams react to a deadline and that is still over a month away. Brad: What are your impressions of Flynn so far this year? Is he fully healthy? David Kahn: He is not healthy, as is evident. Johnny had a serious injury, and hasn't regained his explosion, his timing and it's effected his confidence. Johnny is resilient however and is going to have a long career in the NBA. cp1: Do you think Kevin Love will make the all-star team? David Kahn: I don't know, I hope so. Taylor: Besides the NBA and Timberwolves, what other interests/hobbies do you have? David Kahn: Even if I had interests and hobbies there wouldn't be time for them. shrink: Who was your favorite NBA player(s) growing up? David Kahn: Great question, Maurice Lucas. Nate: How impressed have you been with the play of Michael Beasley? David Kahn: I have been very pleased with Michael's development this season and hope that he will be with us for a number of years to come. Taylor: If there were a rule that you could change about the NBA game, what would that be? David Kahn: No jump balls. We would use the position arrow like in college. Will: Do you go to all the games, home and away? David Kahn: I go to all the home games and most of the away games. matt: do you think Darko will continue to improve? David Kahn: I do, I think that Darko still has some rust that has not yet come off. I expect Darko to be better each year he is with us. Zach: have any college players stood out to you so far this season? David Kahn: Some have, but we aren't allowed to talk about players until they formally declare for the draft. Vick: Has this team progressed as much as you would have expected? I think most fans anticipated better results to go along with the better talent this year? David Kahn: I think it's progressed a lot but I have also recognized there is some frustration it hasn't translated into more victories. We have had so many games this year we have let slip away, I think if we had 5-6 more wins the progression would match up more evenly with results. Guest: What position do you think needs the most improvement on this years team? David Kahn: I know that we need better play from the point guard position. Jonny's recovery period has been lengthy and it's effected us from time to time. Brad: How do we improve our defense? We're 2nd worst in PPG allowed, and 3rd worst in differential. David Kahn: Practice, practice, practice. Kristen: Do you feel that Corey Brewer doesn't get enough credit for his defense? David Kahn: No I think Corey is amply credited. GDG: Are there any plans to address what appears to be a surplus at the wing position? David Kahn: I think we have too many wing players and it may be something we have to address, if not before the deadline then certainly next summer. David Kahn: The concept was we would create a lot of competition for playing time in practices but I don't think it works as well. It works more theoretically than practically. Cameron: During this season, besides Kevin Love. Who has impressed you the most with their development? David Kahn: Michael Beasley. David Kahn: And Darko to a lesser extent. pistolpete612: how do you think the target center is doing compared to the other venues in the NBA David Kahn: We need to address some of the deficiencies in the Target Center that are attributibale to it's age. It's one of the oldest buildings in the league and the people of the Twin Cities deserve a first class NBA Arena. Wobig: What are your feelings about Wesley Johnson and his season so far? And do you still like that pick? David Kahn: I think Wesley will be a huge part of our future, he is a rare blend of athleicism - like so many of our young players Wesley's weakness is learning how to play defense. He is a bright kid and will learn in due time. David: How tough is it to make a trade as a GM in the NBA? David Kahn: It's very hard because of all the salry cap rules. The overarching salaries have to match up. That is why so many deals have to do with fiscal reasons as playing reasons. jhanson: What are your thoughts on the future of Luke Ridnour with the Wolves? David Kahn: I expect Luke to be a part of our program for a number of years. We signed him as a valuable member on the court and a mentor for Jonny and ultimately Ricky Rubio. Brad: Any update on Sebastian Telfair? David Kahn: I expect Sebastian to be healthy enough to play by next week. Klomp: How exciting is Blake Griffin? David Kahn: He is pretty darn exciting, I just wish it wasn't at our expense. MJ: Do you feel that K-Love doesn't get the respect he deserves from the officials? David Kahn: I think that Kevin is starting to earn more and more respect as the season progresses. Nick: Which opponent players and teams have impressed you the most this year? David Kahn: Certainly Miami, the Lakers and Orlando stand out to me. David Kahn: Of the players I was impressed with Blake when we played them in December and obviously impressed tonight. Jason: Should they change the all-star voting? David Kahn: No I think that the fans, expecially the international fans enjoy it and it helps promote the sport. J Roc: How has Rubio been playing? Do you see a lot of changes in his performance for the good?1 David Kahn: No dramatic changes but I thought he started shooting the ball better. FSN Moderator: Thanks Wolves fans for all your great questions! We tried to answer as many of them as we could. Mr. Kahn appreciated all the comments everyone had!
