Would this trade give us Pau(se)?

The league is looking for more youth for the Hornets. The Lakers want CP3 and are willing to part with Pau Gasol. Why wouldn't the T-Wolves (loaded w/ youth) make a play for Pau Gasol?

First, who do we not want to give up? I think that Love is the only untouchable on this team. We probably wouldn't want to part with DWill or RR either. Probably won't work, but how about this...

Lakers get CP3 and Anthony Tolliver (Why? Lakers get Chris Paul. AT helps the numbers work.)

T-Wolves get Pau and Trevor Ariza (Why Gasol? Athletic veteran guy who can play C. Friends w/ Rubio. Clears out the backlog of frontcourt players. Why Ariza? A plus defender and a guy who has shown he can score. His percentages went down next to CP3, though. But, next to Rubio, they should return to form.)

Hornets get Lakers first rd pick, Utah's future first rounder (from Al Jeff trade), Beasley, Pek, AR, and Wes. (Why? They get younger w/ picks and young players. Good contracts (ie not expensive). Get out from under Ariza's contract.)

The trade works in the ESPN Trade Machine.

We could streamline, too. Pull out Ariza and Tolliver and it still works.

Thoughts?

Bynum

One could argue that we could make a similar trade for Bynum instead of Pau. Bynum’s skills maybe a better fit for the Wolves. But, my concern is his attitude and his injury history. I don’t know that he’d be the best fit from that standpoint. But, he could be an option, too.

And Barea would might mouse him

I wonder what the locker room would be like if we got Bynum and kept Barea and Beasley, probably a good conversation over drinks after they play together for a while.

Hell no.

Bynum sucks. Such weak sauce mentally and physically.

This isn't bad.

Although I think the Hornets end up with quanity instead of quality, and considering what a clustereff this thing has been already, not pulling at least two solid starters for Paul will make it look even worse.

If they never play NBA basketball again, then I'll never watch it again.

Williams would almost have to replace Beasley I'd think

Not saying he’s better, but he on a contract younger and still largely unknown.

Hmmm...

I think that if Williams had to be in the deal, it’s not worth it for the Wolves. If the Hornets are going to go with youth, I think that they have to accept some risk. One has to think that Wes and AR would develop. And, a healthy Beas is productive.

I see what you’re saying, though.

completely agree with this

considering what the league is asking the Clippers for in the CP3 trade proposals (that have been reported anyway). I’d assume they would want AT LEAST two of DWill, Rubio and Love plus the other guys and picks to run out their roster.

To be clear, I’m all for going for it. Pau would be a sweet veteran snag. I happen to think he as many good years left (because he has really long arms and can shoot it so as his quickness deteriorates he should still be effective). Perhaps not at $19m a year… If we could arrange a trade that allows us to keep Rubio and Love I’d seriously consider it.

I don’t really want Bynum. Injuries and douchebaggery notwithstanding, he just doesn’t seem to want it.

Rubio + DWilliams + Adelman = suck it Clippergeddon

I don't agree with the proposal above..

So you meant to say that the Lakers would only have to give up Pau and a low 1st rounder for chris paul??
And the Wolves got ripped off on the trade? Giving up all the loot to the hornets just for Pau and Ariza (which actually is already an advantage for NOH by unloading contracts).

Here’s my take on how the trade would be fair enough for all sides:

Lakers, Hornets & Wolves 3-Team Trade

ripped off?

seems like everyone on here thinks that the wolves would have to give up more (ie DWill), not less.

there’s no way the lakers give up pau AND bynum, and we get away with giving up Beasley, Wes Johnson, Ridnour, Darko. no way.

Hornets

would be much better off taking clippers deal without gordon or bledsoe, than our deal

by andrew33 on Dec 14, 2011 6:47 PM CST reply actions

different, but similar trade

http://games.espn.go.com/nba/tradeMachine?tradeId=6m5can2

Lakers get: Chris Paul
Wolves get: Pau Gasol
Hornets get: Caracter, Beasley, Wes Johnson, Randolph, Devin Ebanks, and Tolliver

According to hollinger’s analysis, the hornets would only get 6 wins worse (a win for a team who needs to trade their superstar), the lakers lose 2 wins, but acquire the superstar they covet, and the wolves get Pau and improve by 6 wins

I made a trade for us involving Orlando now.. kind of silly but possible

http://games.espn.go.com/nba/tradeMachine?tradeId=84wch34

Wolves get: Pau Gasol
Magic get: Beasley, Randolph, Artest, Ridnour
Lakers get: Howard, Turkoglu, Ellington

Wolves lineup turns into..
Rubio/Barea
Wes/Webster/Lee
Williams/Bonzi
Love/Tolliver
Gasol/Pek

Lose some depth, but there are other signings we could make or different ways to work that trade.
