Possible Trade Partner?
I was skimming over the depth charts of teams the past few days, and I realized a team that would line up nicely for us to trade some of our young pieces. I'm talking about the New Orleans Hornets.... They have a terrible starting 5. They have 0 PF's on their team. They have 2 vet C's and nothing behind them. They have 4 SF's. They have 2 PG's, both of which are not very good.
First, we'll look at their roster:
PG: Jarrett Jack, Terrico White
SG: Eric Gordon, Marco Belinelli
SF: Trevor Ariza, Al-Farouq Amino, Quincey Pondexter, Patrick Ewing, Jr.
PF: Emeka Okafor???
I think it's fairly obvious the only positions they're comfortable with are SG and C. SF isn't bad either. But they could for sure use an upgrade at PF and PG. I am proposing a trade that would help both clubs.
MN receives: Emeka Okafor (he's 29), 1st round pick (top 10 protected 2012, unprotected 2013)
NOH receives: Anthony Randolph, Nikola Pekovic, Luke Ridnour, and a future 2nd round pick.
MN Line-up:
PG: Rubio, Barea
SG: Johnson, Ellington/Lee
SF: Beasley, Williams/Tolliver
PF: Love, Williams/Tolliver
C: Okafor, Milicic, Miller
NOH Line-up:
PG: Ridnour, Jack
SG: Gordon, Belinelli
SF: Ariza, Amino
PF: Randolph, ??? FA
C: Kaman, Pekovic
Who says no? Which team improves more? Thoughts???

They may welcome PF talent from Minnesota, but there is NO chance they are giving up draft picks.

Do you think they would do it if it were a 2nd rounder?
So we’d basically swap 2nd rounders?
I think Okafor is a good big but nothing great, but I do think that line-up for us would potentially get to the playoffs next year. I think this year will be a learning year, and he’d help provide vet leadership.
I'm a big Okafor fan
But I doubt they give up a first round pick

Interesting idea
One minor detail: Carl Landry re-signed w them, so that’s a 4.

Not going to happen
They probably aren’t giving up their now current best player in Okafor, and aren’t going to give up any 1st round picks for some grab bag of MN players.
I would love to get Okafor
but I would rather get our pick back than a protected one of theirs (neither is happening). I would also go for a blockbuster trade and try to land Okafor + Gordon by shipping out D Williams, Wes Johnson, Ridnour and Anthony Randolph.
They get a PG, a SF, 2 PFs, AR but probably don’t bite due to losing Gordon.
I didn't realize they got Landry back...
I remember now. 1 year deal. I think they still might be interested, but not the above deal.
Randolph, Ridnour, Pek, and a 2nd for Okafor straight up? Do they bite on that?
Someone smart than me said in another thread
That the Hornets may be a bad trading partner for us since they don’t want to improve our team and make our pick worse for them. We may have to wait until the offseason to do a deal with the Hornets or this reason.
Derrick Williams was going to Bust...but then he was selected by the Timberwolves!

Nola has our 2012 pick, so
So there is no way they make a trade that will help us win more games in 2012… That would just serve to lower the draft slot from our pick.
That said, I have said for 2-3 years that Emeka is a great fit on our roster. Adelman prefers facilitator bigs, but he already has Love for that role in the offense.
If we are to add a big salary this year, I still say it will be Kevin Martin for a modest package. I’d like a Martin, Lin & the return of our 2012 2nd-rounder for Pekovic, Ridnour, Martell. And, yes, I absolutely believe that gets it done. They like Pek and Martell’s salary comes off the books next year
I think for this reason alone they don't trade with us this year
Well Clippers you successfully turned Marco Jaric into CP3 by duping McHale. Great move.

Maybe GS and Memphis could help
I thought this might be an interesting trade.
Wouldn’t mind Mayo and Memphis gets their pseudo home town kid. GS gets either Beasley or Williams (at Adelman’s discretion) and a back up point guard for when they want to slide Curry over. I’d seriously think about it.
Rubio + DWilliams + Adelman = suck it Clippergeddon
We're involving Memphis why?
Don’t we just keep Ellis? He makes Barrea unnecessary, but then again Barrea has provided a hint that Ellis would not be such a bad partner to Rubio. With Beasley gone in your scenario, Ellis is much more capable of taking on the role as the go to scorer than Mayo. Granted, this is coming from someone who has never been a Mayo fan.
Well...basically...
I don’t currently have a douchebag scale, but if I had to guess I’d put Monta at an 8 and Mayo around a 5. Mayo is cheaper(for a year anyway), a little younger and tries on defense once in a while (or, so I’ve heard). Also, I was thinking Memphis would want Monta as he is from the area and the trade would balance out a few rosters.
I agree that Monta would fit the part in MN, I simply like Monta less than I like OJ. So…lesser of two evils I suppose.
Rubio + DWilliams + Adelman = suck it Clippergeddon
I would rather
also put beasley in the trade, and instead of getting okafor, I rather get Kaman and Ariza back
The more I watch Randolph and Pek
The more I realize this trade would really screw over N.O.
They’re probably going to find themselves on the end of our bench, so they’d probably want out at least…
I've been hoping for a Randolph for Mayo trade for awhile
I don't know what an art house is, I don't know what goes on in an art house, I have never been in an art house, and I can't imagine it's any place I ever want to be.
You people need to stop trying to trade Pek.

Because he's doing this team so much good...
Paying him over 3 million to sit on the bench. He’s just not that good. He can be good at times, but for every good play he makes 3 bonehead TO’s.
Yes!
For the first two games he was out with a strained groin. He looked better in preseason than he had last year. I hope he’s pulling it together. (Otherwise I have to find some other minor player to root for).

Two Ways to Sidestep the MIN #1
mak07 is correct, that MIN and NOH would make good trading partners. I could see a deal for Okafor (NOH gains financially and the NOH pick value .. MIN gains in talent), and even a swap based around Eric Gordon and Derrick Williams (Williams is won-later, better publicity, more cheap years on rookie scale, and can’t force his way out as quickly .. MIN gains win now-talent and fit). Unfortunately, as long as NOH owns the MIN pick, they will do no trade that makes us better.
There are two ways to sidestep this now:
1. We could add talent that would reduce the value of the MIN pick. For example, if we dealt for Iguodala (which I don’t recommend), we’d pick up more wins already. If NOH did a trade that added a few more, it wouldn’t matter as much.
2. NOH trades the MIN pick now. NOH capitalizes on the pick’s current value, based on what people expect of us before a NOH trade. It might frustrate the new owner of that pick, but Stern won’t veto a deal that move Okafor, and saves 29 owners from paying his $41 mil over the next three years.
Contrarian thinking
Since we know that NOH loses value in the MIN 1st if they add talent, the converse is also true .. NOH gains if we ship out 2011-12 talent for future gain.
Right now, MIN is in a win-now situation, but if the season starts poorly, or if a guy like Beasley or Randolph isn’t seen by Adelman as part of our future, the Wolves may consider trading talent for future assets. NOH shouldn’t be the recipient .. they may damage their own pick .. but they could help grease the wheels
For example, suppose it’s early February, and IND looks like they may make the play-offs if they can only find a 6th man who can put points on the board. They like Beasley, but MIN won’t accept their offer of Dahntay Jones, George Hill and an unprotected IND 1st because MIN doesn’t want to eat Jones salary. Surprisingly, since it’s in MEM’s best interest if we moved Beasley, you could see them throw $3 mil at us (for a 2nd) to encourage us to make that deal.
My point is that while having a team own your pick is never good, it invests them in your record, and gives your GM a bit of hidden leverage that I’d like to see used. A few less wins could mean a significantly better player for MEM.
I prefer the successful trade I just made in the ESPN trade machine
Wolves get:
Rajon Rondo (from Boston)
Nick Young (from Washington)
Celtics get:
Luke Ridnour (from Minnesota)
Michael Beasley (from Minnesota)
Ronny Turiaf (from Washington)
Wizards get:
Wes Johnson (from Minnesota)
Jermaine O’Neal (from Boston)
Avery Bradley (from Boston)
:D
Ridnour, Beasly and this years first round pick for:
Tyreke Evans and mabey a second round pick?
What is a point guard? People have been telling me we need one....
We don't have a first round pick
And if we did it still wouldn’t be enough to make that deal. Tyreke Evans is good.
Ahh IC you guys dont need any picks this year with all the youngsters you
already have on the roster, despite what some said, I think Khan did a decent job of assembling the team and I think you guys could make the playoffs when its all said and done this year.
