Darrell Arthur appears to be out for the year
They seem pretty thin at the forward position. I have to believe that there would be a way to even out both rosters. Mayo seems like he would fit Adelman's description of a ball handling guard and we have forwards to spare!!
Considering at one time the Grizzlies were considering Josh McRoberts for Mayo, perhaps they would be willing to take a shot at Randolph...and another piece?

for example
per the trade machine, we could try this. Perhaps we would have to include the Utah pick?
I’m not a huge fan of Mayo, but he might be humbled a bit by how he’s been treated and shopped by Memphis. His skills could really benefit, and be exploited by, the Wolves.
Rubio + DWilliams + Adelman = suck it Clippergeddon
No to Mayo
Adelman wants defense.
Mayo plays none.
I don’t know if he even knows what defense is.
This is what I would like to see…
http://espn.go.com/nba/tradeMachine?tradeId=7gqxrsw
Works for both sides
that's true about the defense
but, IIRC, he basically said the entire team sucked a big one on that end. He did, however, explicitly mention having people other than the point who are able to take care of the ball. That’s really why I mentioned it. I’m not a huge fan of Mayo…it just may be an opportune time to get someone for relatively cheap (scraps).
Rubio + DWilliams + Adelman = suck it Clippergeddon
what about a three-way trade?
If no to Mayo, what about trying to work out a sign-and-trade with Mayo or somebody going to Denver, Afflalo signing & going to Wolves, and Randolph/Wes Johnson going to Grizzlies? Or Randolph to Grizzlies, Johnson to Nuggets? I can’t put it in the Trade Machine because Afflalo isn’t available. Might take another small deal to Grizzlies to make it work.
Come on--
think BIG here . . .
As promised, since they resumed playing NBA basketball, I have resumed watching NBA basketball.
Is Kris Humphries signed yet...
He might be the answer here, if he accepts a 1-2 yr offer.
?
I don’t understand how Kris Humphries helps our guard situation…or was that sarcasm that I’m hopelessly missing?
Rubio + DWilliams + Adelman = suck it Clippergeddon
I think he means for Memphis.
But as far as trading Randolph i’m all for that. The dude is a bum.

He might be...
If the question is “How many power forwards can a roster logically carry?”

i meant for Memphis....
But I would love to trade AR for Mayo…I would not trade Wes for Mayo. For some reason, I have some hope that Wes will turn into a solid rotation player providing great defense, transition buckets and a little under 2 threes a game. Call me crazy.
I'm only mildly interested in Mayo
but Memphis wouldn’t do it for Randolph. He really doesn’t help them; they aren’t in the development game anymore. The guy they could use as a replacement for Arthur is Tolliver.

Would you do that?
I might, but I don’t think Adelman would.
As promised, since they resumed playing NBA basketball, I have resumed watching NBA basketball.
Tolliver+ for Mayo?
I don’t know. You have to think it’s a talent upgrade, and talent is a good thing. Also, Mayo is, you know, a shooting guard, which is nice. I’ve never been a big Mayo guy, mostly because he doesn’t get to the line and isn’t a great 3 point shooter, which means by definition he isn’t all that efficient, and he does very little else. However, there is some talent there; he does have scoring ability and handles pretty well.
But…AT brings something to the table. Also, and more tangibly, it adds another player who is due an extension next season. That puts some pressure on the financial side of things. You usually don’t want to have everyone come due at the same time.

I'd bet a HAM sandwich
We don’t trade AT at all,, surely not for mayo.
He’s a great vet & mature presence..
I wouldn't move Tolliver for Mayo
But I do think Mayo will be dealt somewhere for a PF. And Memphis just signed Jeremy Pargo, who they believe can handle the combo scoring guard role just as well as Mayo.
BTW, Pargo just had 15 points, 7 assists and 2 rebounds last night.
Tolliver, though, is one of the few steady and competent players we have right now. At my count, we only have six steady and competent players. Mayo seems like one of the maddening types. I’d take him, but only in exchange for one of our inconsistent, talented types (like Randolph). Let some other team finally tap into AR’s potential… I want to start winning a couple games.
Hollinger's take on Tolliver - I want to keep this guy.
+ Smart, spot-up shooting big man who hustles defensively and takes charges.
+ Average athlete with wiry build. Subpar rebounder. Limited low-post game.
+ Won’t shoot unless wide open, but good passer. Low-mistake player.
A smart, high-percentage player who doesn’t force the action, hustles on defense and never makes mistakes? Wait, what’s this guy doing on the Timberwolves?
Tolliver has carved out a niche for himself in that role despite playing for two organizations — Golden State and now Minnesota — that were antithetical to intelligent basketball. Last season he averaged only 12.7 points and 8.7 boards per 40 minutes, yet was a useful player because of his high-efficiency approach. Tolliver was the rare player who both takes lots of 3s and draws lots of fouls; he was 11th among power forwards in 3-point frequency and 10th in free throw rate. He hit 40.9 percent from beyond the arc and finished fourth among power forwards in secondary percentage.
As an added plus, Tolliver has become a fairly adept high-post passer. He was eighth among power forwards in assist ratio and ninth in pure point rating.
Defensively, Tolliver is undersized but offsets that with his mobility as a pick-and-roll defender and his willingness to take charges. Although his direct opponent stats weren’t good, the Wolves gave up 4.57 points per 100 possessions fewer with him on the court — Tolliver’s value isn’t in one-on-one defense, in other words, but team D. Much of which is wasted with this outfit, but Minnesota’s logjam at the 4 may result in his being liberated to a franchise that has more use for his crafty play.
Hey Eric,
I have spousal approval to go out to watch the game on the 27th. I don’t know all of the sports bars around town, so I’m open to suggestions, but I was thinking that the Stadium Bar would work. Do you have any other ideas?
by Madison Dan on Dec 19, 2011 10:36 AM CST up reply actions
I think
Visions has a TV set.
As promised, since they resumed playing NBA basketball, I have resumed watching NBA basketball.
I totally recommend The Great Dane, you fellow Madison folk...
It’s not a traditional sports bar, but the game will be on and it’s got great food, micro-brews and more of a classy atmosphere. Otherwise, the new BW3 on University is a fine option on campus.
That'd work, though it might be a little tougher to get close to a TV.
They’re all over the place at Stadium Bar. Better beer at the Dane for sure, though.

What channel do you usually ask them to put it on?

When I'm feeling really kinky
I’ll have them turn it to C-SPAN.
As promised, since they resumed playing NBA basketball, I have resumed watching NBA basketball.
Great. Stadium bar right across from Camp Randall, right?
I’ll confirm with you before hand.

That's the one, but if the Dane or something else sounds better
that’s fine with me. PoorDick, foobee, are you in?

You're too kind.
But I’ll be at Visions.

I like the Dane for beer, not so much for game watching
would rather do the Stadium, I think.

I just noticed that the Badgers are playing at Nebraska
that same night. It starts 30 minutes later. I don’t know whether that changes the location preference. I kind of doubt that Stadium Bar would be mobbed with students for a basketball road game, but I’ve never tried it. Does that still sound like the choice, or should we move it away from campus?
by Madison Dan on Dec 19, 2011 11:50 AM CST up reply actions
Hmm, let me think on that
I don’t know that campus will be very crowded since it’s winter break, but maybe going to one of the places further west makes sense.

I don't think Stadium Bar will be that crazy over Winter Break.
But I’m cool with BW3 at the East Towne Mall if you want to get away from campus.
good

Thanksnfor the invite
Checked with my wife and she’s given me the green light. I’ll be to Stadium Bar at about 7:15ish on the 27th. First round is on me!
