Wolves open scrimmage
According to the Wolves Facebook page, the Wolves have an open to the public scrimmage at the Target Center today. It is at noon with free admission. The entire roster will be on hand. I plan on meandering over for a look.

Is it going to
be “We got next” and “shirts vs. skins”?
As promised, since they resumed playing NBA basketball, I have resumed watching NBA basketball.
I am hoping for a staff vs. roster tilt.
I want to see Adelmann post up Ridnour.

see you there
though we won’t recognize one another. I work about a half mile away and am going to head over with a co-worker. Rubi-oops should abound.

I'll be there as well
I’ll have a CH sticker on my shirt. Perhaps we should get pins or stickers or something. Maybe red hats? So we can all identify each other at games etc!

Ugh, that was terrible
On so many levels. Not sure if this is the first time they’ve done something like this, but was I the only one there that thought this was kind of an open invitation to something that more resembled a practice scrimmage? Instead, we get “treated” to a dance-off, sing-off, and contest of “pig” against fans that sandwiched 10-minute mockery of a true scrimmage Judging by the general crowd reaction, I was not alone in my disappointment.
I can’t imagine how this seemed like a good marketing move. Everyone who is looking for a reason to be excited about this team is scouring news sources looking for confirmation that the group of lovable losers from the past two yeas has evolved into a group that is serious about winning, serious about practice, and serious about getting after it night after night. Trotting out the new-look-Wolves for what amounted to a 10-minute playground dunk-fest was not was I was there to see.

It was not worth my time or the price of admission*.
Total waste of effort. Yuk. I waited through the “fan games” for the scrimmage. The scrimmage was also a total joke. I left about 12:35.
*although admission was free; they made me throw out what was left of my coffee. About a quarters worth. I consider that my admission charge. Next time they will have to pay me to attend.

Yeah, it was pretty silly.
I thought parts of it were kind of cute/amusing (I kind of like to see the players’ personalities a bit), but the scrimmage itself was definitely disappointing. I guess in retrospect maybe I should’ve realized that it might be like that? I didn’t even see Adelman there.
It was the kind of thing that would appeal to little kids, but definitely not hardcore fans.
Agree with the little kids angle.
The problem is, it was 98% adults. And most were there to see Rubio, Williams and all compete in a real scrimmage. Whoever dreamed this up from marketing should be severely chastised.
I was walking out and I heard at least 20 people say “What a joke.”
Luke Ridnour was not there either.

Luke came in after the “scrimmage.” At first I wondered if there had been some news about him.
A lot of the Wolves marketing is great, IMO, so I think that’s why this seemed especially disappointing.
I agree
Most of their marketing seems to be really on the ball, and this seemed so loosey-goosey & haphazard. Poor Kevin Love, I think he sensed it. He even apologized for it “starting off slow.”

on the "player personality" thing
Don’t get me wrong – this seems to be a genuinely likable group of guys, which is what you want. But my interest in the personalities of public figures just diminishes year by year. The people I surround myself with in my regular life have personalities that are so much more interesting, and so less likely to someday suddenly disappoint me. The Timberwolves, I’d really much rather just watch them play ball.
Perhaps Adelman didn’t want to be associated with a half-assed scrimmage. I’m glad he wasn’t there, for sake of his own dignity. They might have ended up forcing him to put on a Lady Gaga outfit or something.

Yeah...
the personalities and the player interactions are kind of interesting, but the basketball wasn’t really basketball. Oh well, something to do over the lunch hour. Saw more of Malcolm Lee than at any time before. Rubio’s behind-the-back bankshot was cool.
I will concede
it to see Ricky do pretty much anything basketball-related. That old expression of “having the ball on the string?” Honest to God, that’s what it looks like whenever the ball leaves his hand. Understood that this was really, really not game-time defense we were seeing, but there’s something about the way the ball leaves his hands whenever he delivers a pass that is kind of like reading a limerick by John Steinbeck. The context matters not, you still get the sense you’re watching a master at work.

Nice
Watching those highlights from the first pre-season game and reflecting on his play in Europe….I don’t think it’s hyperbole at all to say that his floor vision and passing is equal to or better than anyone that’s ever played the game. We’ll see if his struggles to shoot/finish ultimately prevent him from exploiting his playmaking gifts to their full extent, but the guy routinely makes two or three highlight reel passes every single game and is just brilliant at placement. God he must feel like a free man getting out of the Barca offense (Dribble ball up the floor; pass to JC Navarro; scurry to corner; rest).

I was there. But I left after the “scrimmage.” It would have been a good event if it would have been called something else, and marketed for the more casual fan or kids. The problem, of course, is that they had it at noon downtown and there were a lot of hard-core basketball fans that recognized that there wasn’t any defense played during the “scrimmage.” I don’t expect hard fouls and such, but I imagine that scrimmages in practice look a lot different, as people are trying to win positions. They just turned into a dunk contest and a chance for Rubio to show off some of his passing (which was, of course, impressive).
I think everyone was rather annoyed at the “games,” and other fan-interaction activities. I may have been foolish, but I was looking for something more like an intersquad pre-season game.
Too bad
but it sounds like whoever dreamed this up was totally clueless as to who would show up. Were there any schoolkids there at all?
Not saying their next weekday lunchtime promotion should revolve around shots and beers, but maybe the TWolves marketing staff should take a couple laps around the Skyway to get a better feel for who works downtown.
"He was born pissed." - Poor Dick
Disappointed for the reasons above.
I expected it to be a real scrimmage, with a coach there, and some intensity like guys who are trying to solidify starting spots.
Luke Ridnour didn’t do anything, except briefly stretch. He wasn’t even at introductions. I think he is the odd man out of the guard rotation.
Also, the dunk contest should have had Darko. Everybody wanted to see Darko in a dunk contest and he sat on the press table and wouldn’t join.
Basketball related highlights for me were Ricky’s passing and Darko hitting a deep 3 in the scrimmage.
Darko's three was awesome

Every time I want to completely write off Darko
He does something that makes me think “If only he would just …” and I feel like he needs another shot with a new coach.
It really reminded me how old these guys are
Williams and Lee were really embarrassed to be dancing in front of all of those people. I was hoping a Koufus style dance off. It was good to see them get along pretty well. When Pek made a layup I shouted Balkan Bulldozer and my wife gave me the “Don’t make people look at us look”
