As Dr. Wolfenstein pointed out recently, it's hard to contain the irrational exuberance around this team. Bill Simmons is predicting 31 victories! But to make a long story short, I am stoked to let you know about a section of the arena that is being reserved for the rabid Wolves fan, the crazy people (los locos), and persons of irrational exuberance (p.i.e.). Every game this season section 121 (rows P-back row) is being reserved for loudest, creative, and crazy among us. For now the working title of this band of brothers and sisters is #loslocos.
[A note to those who might be skeptical of this (this includes me): A couple of friends in the organization who believe in doing things from the bottom up and see the value in organic, grassroots community have paved the way for this group to happen. It has been a battle with the traditionalists inside the 600 1st Ave. They did not and do not want to name the group and establish it from the top down. They have fought hard to let us, the fans dictate how it will evolve and grow. So #loslocos is the starting point for now. My desire is to be a facilitator to see this community contribute raw and crazy ideas to the in-game experience. I had to ask myself before committing to this, "What is the end game and purpose of this?" The end game is creating a more intense and exciting atmosphere (similar to what happens at Duke and Purdue). It is an admirable and lofty, even pie in the sky to think that an NBA arena can rock like that. But I believe the organization is willing to take the chance on some of us crazies to at the very least begin with a section that can emulate that experience.]
It all begins in earnest tomorrow night vs. the Thunder. If you are feeling the itch to be a part of this, hit me up here in the the thread, and or email me at my address on my profile. I will fill you in on the practicals of tickets, etc. You can also hit me up on the twitter @haugenma.
Due to a previously planned family Christmas event, I cannot attend the opener (bummed). So Pat (@pwfree23) will be leading the section. What I know is some of Pat's crew will be wearing a variety of costumes Monday night and they are planning to do a version of "the Bernie" every time Beasley scores. If you don't know what the "Bernie" is, it's inspired from Weekend at Bernie's and here is a link:
For Friday nights game (Dec 30) vs. the Heat and every game forward I will be there. Speaking of Friday night's contest, we have a theme we are going with: Sombreros and Cervezas.
Wear a sombrero and/or a poncho and mustache. We will be doing a variety of Spanish chants which I will elaborate on in a future post. Following the game, I have a room reserved for #loslocos at Huberts Bar (glassed in party room next to Target plaza) to have Cervezas after the game and just debrief and chat about the game. I am hopeful that this spot will become a regular post-game place for CH-ers.
I'm looking forward to seeing you in 121.
