Wes Johnson for O.J. Mayo
Exciting game last night - but indeed a very tough loss...
Wayne Ellington played admirably in his first minutes this season - His floor spacing and TB like stop and pop jumper were such a welcomed addition to the lineup. However, when he was getting his run Wesley J was simply sitting on the bench.. A mere year removed from his 4th overall selection...
I like Wes. He's got length and a nice stroke (just doesn't seem to be falling)... But I dread seeing his confidence hit the floor if his minutes continue to drop... Almost a mirror situation of that with a former Wolf, Mr. O.J. Mayo himself, in Memphis.
Mayo has a lot of things the Wolves are in need of right now - he can put it on the floor (man that Lee injury stings), can space the floor with his stroke, and for some reason it always has seemed like he just kind of belongs here (no?)... With the Grizz near the cap and a Mayo extension looming - I think they do this...
But what do y'all think? Who says no?

Um Sure????
Fond memories of the start of this blog when it was a serious debate whether you’d rather have OJ Mayo or Kevin Love. Imagine if the Wolves hadn’t made that deal with Memphis- how awful they would be right now.

How about how good we would be if...
Cousins over Wes & Curry over Flynn

If the Wolves hadn't done that deal with Memphis
I bet they would have been one of the worst teams in the NBA in 2009, 2010, and 2011.
Memphis probably would have struggled at first, and steadily gotten better until they became a semi-serious title contender.

Er . . .
The Wolves were one of the worst teams in the NBA in 2009, 2010, and 2011. (Sorry if I’m stepping all over a joke. My humormeter is broken.)

There's an irony to the "IMAGINE IF WE HADN'T MADE THAT TRADE!"
Thing is, the trade didn’t only bring Love, but also Rubio (via Mike Miller—thanks Kahn!) so it was clearly a winner even getting beyond the way Memphis steadily improved and has about the same chance of winning a title as fans thought Dallas did, a season ago.
Soooo many variables going into that trade that it’s impossible to say what would have happened to either team. Memphis gets Love, probably not Z-Bo. Minnesota gets O.J. Mayo to go with Al Jefferson, who desperately needed competent perimeter players. The sequence of everything takes him away from the ACL tear incident, McHale keeps his job, maybe he drafts Steph Curry or one of the other after-Rubio/non-Flynn point guards in ’09…
My head hurts. Back to drinking. It’s New Year’s after all. Have a good one.

Happy New Years!
I’m trying our Founders Imperial Stout and enjoying a Boulder Brewing Killer Penguin barleywine tonight. I should go to bed early. I won’t.

It is!
I’d give you the recipe, but I wasn’t paying attention when I made it up!

You mean like 18 losses in a row awful?
"I don't think I've ever seen a group that is as good at turning the ball over as this one." Rick Adelman
I would do it
BTW, I love the screen name Ndudi Ebi
Now we just need Will Avery to show up.
And maybe Paul Grant.

Yeah,
His failure from there would have been less notable.

That's a no-brainer. It would be something if we could get Memphis to consider it.
I’m not sure how the personalities of Beasley, Mayo, and Love would mesh on the same team. But, for Wes, I think you would have to do the deal.
A Trojan on a team with several Bruins?
and a used Trojan at that.

Ew.
Used Trojan.

that's an interesting point
maybe a Beasley for Mayo swap would benefit both teams WRT roster depth and personality checks.
I know I’m a sucker… I would like to see what Wes could do in a lineup with Rubio, Mayo RickWill and Love. I’m probably setting myself for disappointment but I do think Wes will be ok (especially with a Rubio type table setter) if he can just get a little confidence back…and de-friending Jonny on FB and Twitter.
Lob City? I prefer Skip-pass County.
Memphis doesn't need SFs
and Wes is SF. They don’t need PFs either (and Beasley is PF or SF).
They actually need SG better (or better fit) than Mayo and more depth on C position.
It could be only 3 team trade.
I will like to see Beasley out of town, Wes tried on his position (SF), and some real SG whoever he is.
With only Skinner...
To back up Gasol, they would probably be more interested in Pekovic. Afterall, they were on the verge of dealing Mayo for Josh McBob last year.
New Jersey Nets are ideal trading parter for SG
They are bad team, have needs on many positions and have lot of SGs (with Marshon Brooks arrival, with veteran presence in DeShown Stevenson, Gaines is combo guard, even Damion James could play some minutes at SG, although he is SF – they don’t need Morrow really – especially after his bad start of season and he has contract big enough 4M$).
Morrow could be good fit in Minnesota – pure shooter.
For example: Morrow & Shawne Williams for Beasley (they need scoring and expiring contracts). Or Morrow for AR & Ellington.
me too
the odd thing is he seemingly fell off the face of the earth. Did his knee surgery (I think it was a knee) go badly or something? If only there were some way to look up a guy and find maybe find out why… crap. To the intertronz!!
Lob City? I prefer Skip-pass County.
Detroit could be good trade partner too
They have more combo guards they need (Knight, Stuckey, Gordon). They tried Stuckey in SG role last year and he excels. This year they are starting Stuckey/Gordon, but they will be happy to dump Gordon’s big contract and move Knight to starting 5 and Stuckey to SG position.
Ben Gordon is extremely overpaid (12.4/13.2 M$ in the next 2 years) and undersized for SG (problems on defense). I actually don’t like him much (shameless gunner), but we need to balance team somehow.
Possible trade: Miller & Webster or Pekovic for Ben Gordon.
Pekavic
As mentioned you might be able to get Mayo for even less (depending on what your definition of less is) and it might just be Pekavic
I am all in favor of getting Mayo for a player on our roster that is obviously not part of our plans.
He has mysteriously regressed and I think that has a lot more to do with Memphis need for a defensive ball hawk like Allen to start than another scoring wing.
I don't know what an art house is, I don't know what goes on in an art house, I have never been in an art house, and I can't imagine it's any place I ever want to be.
"I am all in favor of getting Mayo for a player on our roster that is obviously not part of our plans"
I agree with this.
If we somehow get Ben Gordon I am going to try hard to convince my wife that we need to move out of Minnesota. That’s how saddened I would be.
I don't think we would need to include Wes or Bease.
Less player and a future 2nd would get it down. The longer we wait, the more the price goes down too. Mayo should be a give-away at the deadline.
