How would our current team look with Rucky Rubio in the lineup?

Well, Its that time of year where its time to think about anything but our current team.

About the only thing that we have to look forward to going into next season is getting Ricky Rubio in a Wolves uni.  I know his numbers haven't been great in Europe, but there's still no doubting that he's a great prospect who could actually play some defense at the PG position, while passing, yes that's the opposite of what Jonny Flynn does, the basketball to people who can score.

For those out there who think Rambis is getting fired, keep dreaming.  Papa Glen and Mr. Kahn are not going to bail on him just yet.  He'll have one more year to prove that he can put a team together, so thus is the question; If Rubio were playing with our current team, how much better would we be?

I think he could have made the difference for at least 6 wins or so.  At this point BFD, the real problems lie in our team defense.  Its atrocious.  The TOs are bad too, but those are essentially easy to fix.  Team defense is hard to fix and our guys seem to be picking it up very slowly.  Beasley and Love get destroyed on defense, and our current PGs are never going to be good at it.  Luke will be a great guy off the bench who can score and handle the ball.  Rubio is going to be the real facilitator though.  A PG we can actually run our offense through.

All in all, I'm still hopeful that this was the last true bottom feeder year for us.  We have a lot to fix and we really could use a few more vets on our team, but we have a talented core of players.  If they can figure out the team concept I don't see any reason why we can't contend for the playoffs once Rubio is here.

What do you guys think?

I think if Rubio was here

It would have been less of a trial year for players. I think this year was essentially a interview, as terrible as that sounds. If it were this year that he’d arrived, we would’ve had more turnover from top to bottom if we weren’t performing well. Manangement would want to ensure Rick that everything is going to be fixed. As far as playing goes, it probably would have looked similar, although a little better. Still a young squad. Still trying to find an identity. Hopefully Whe Rick gets here passing the ball gets contagious…

Do you mean that in a sarcastic way?

Or in a ’that’s what we need’ way.

Because passing certainly is contagious. If your top players are willing passers, everyone will soon be.

He'd help, but not much

He would still be a rookie in the NBA and all rookies seem to struggle with defense and decision making, no matter what their prior experience might be. Ricky can hardly shoot the ball at a 30% clip in Europe. Imagine what he’d be shooting in the NBA!?

I think the one thing he can do better than Flynn or Ridnour right off the bat is run a fast break.

IMO Ricky’s real value is putting players in better positions to score. Hopefully this reduces the number of stupid passes and ball movement in the lane that lead to way to many turnovers. Although not popular I might encourage ricky to not take the 3 point shot and move a step in and take the shot he is more comfortable with. I still think his shot can be fixed. Also, when the team isn’t shooting well I would encourage him to penetrate and draw fouls to 1) slow the game down, and 2) get the team some points.
As for defense his value on defense his first year will be creating steals.

His shot continues to be a concern...

What’s to stop his man from sagging 4-8 feet of him at all times to play the passing lanes? Ricky’s insane BBIQ would help but he’s gonna have to hit shots sooner or later

He has much better accuracy at 18 to 19 feet. I believe Euroleague moved the 3 point line back and his accuracy has struggled. Which is why i thought stepping in and taking the shorter shot would be good. I agree he has to work on his shot, but it can improve.

Rambitch

I watched the interview with Glen on channel 5 last night and noted he didn’t say much about anyone except Kahn. He mentioned "David " frequently, but referred to others as the staff. Bye, bye Rambitch…I’ll be calling him that until I hear rumors he begged Beasley’s forgiveness.
