Wanna Get Excited About the Draft?

Then this is not the post to read.  I did a quick review of how our beloved team has done with first-round picks, as shown in the table below the jump.  It ain't pretty.

(I may not have all of the details exactly right on the number of seasons, etc., but I think it's close enough.)  A couple of things jump out to me.  First, there are a lot of times that we've kept a player for about three years and then gotten little or nothing in return.  Second, Kahn has already made 25 percent of the franchise's first-round picks.  Read that one again.  Then think about what we're watching this season.  Yikes.

I love the draft.  But with Kahn picking from a weak crop of players, I don't think there's much chance that we'll find a franchise-changing player this year.
