I've played basketball for 30+ years so I understand this isn't exactly new, but the subject of flopping has come up quite a bit lately. I don't like to see it in the game; it is like cheating to me. I think it has evolved over the years in conjunction with the favoritism that the refs give to the more popular players. I am not a big fan of favoritism either but I understand it is now part of the NBA game. The refs are just too familiar with the players and the NBA has not cracked down on this behavior enough. I don't think we see the same bias in football, baseball, hockey, or any other sport I can think of. I wish the NBA would monitor this bias and put a stop to it but I can accept the fact that the players are going to get calls based on their popularity and reputation. However, what if the refs could call a foul on a player that flops? They do it in the NHL. No blood, no foul. Would that stop some of the dumb acting on the court and make the product better?
