NBA Franchise Draft
My friends and I decided to do an NBA franchise draft. Criteria is which team will win the most NBA titles over the next 5 years. We decided to let the readers at Canis Hoopus determine who drafted the best franchise.
Draft was serpentine. Salary not considered. Criteria is which team will win the most titles over the next 5 years. So you have to use your judgement on younger players getting better and older players declining. Please consider all factors, as that is how we drafted, not just ppg. The bench is organized by most minutes to least minutes. Vote in the poll below. I'll post draft results in the comments.

Question? (Redundant with the question mark?)
This is NBA live and your simulating 5 years, right?
Yes.
So it would be this year, and then 4 more years. Take into account rookies you think are going to get better, and older players, like Garnet, who will decline.

Good Picks vs. Bad Picks
It would be also interesting to get comments on who you thought the best picks and the worst picks were.
The Wes Johnson pick really stands out as questionable.
as do Brandon Roy, Beasley and Al Jefferson. I don’t think Beasley or Jefferson will improve from where they are and Roy has injury problems. Wes at least has a (small) chance to become very good. Then again I don’t own NBA live so I am basing this off of what I think of them as players in general. Like most other people I was very impressed with Jeremey’s draft with Courtney, Sam and Aaron also having good drafts.
I would start the other Al over Jefferson anyway. Big Al is a black hole and not much of a winner. Courtney has a stacked frontcourt, but she can’t use all of them and it hurts her perimeter talent. Decent team though.
Go Suns, Packers, Jays, and Huskers!

Not NBA Live
This is not NBA Live. I don’t even know what that is. This is just your guess at to which is the best team if they were to play it out over 5 seasons.
And are you actually going to let the next five years play out
And see who gets the most collective championship rings from their chosen roster?

Canis Hoopus
Nope. Canis Hoopus voters determine the winner over the next 3 days.

Collective championship rings amongst your players?
-As in, team with Noah gets 1 point for every championship the Bulls win (assuming he stays with the Bulls), as well as 1 point for every Kobe ring, Bosh ring, etc.
Or how I think a particular drafted team would fare in hypothetical NBA seasons?
-As in, does hypothetical team Noah/Bosh/Kobe/Nash/Etc win the most championships?
The user formerly known as Bahlgren1
This is fictional. Just vote for the team you think would be the best in real life over the next 5 years.

I hate Sam.
How can you put Steve Nash and Kobe Bryant on the same team? That’s just not right.
Go Suns, Packers, Jays, and Huskers!

jeremy, i think
I say SHONDA you say WOLVES" SHONDA! WOLVES!
I don't like Jeremy's cause in 5 years
Chauncey and Tim Duncan will be announcing rather than playing.
I went James
Jeremy and Sam looked good to me initially, but I think you’re going to have too much falloff amongst Pau/Manu/Duncan/Billups for Jeremy, and Kobe/Nash for Sam. Sam’s backcourt could be really bad really soon.
Casey’s team doesn’t have definitive talent outside of LeBron.
Nate’s team is a little too young.
Courtney’s team has next to no defense.
Aaron’s team hinges on CP3 to make it work, and that could be trouble.
James’ team is pretty dynamic, Love/Bynum/Randolph/Ibaka is a solid frontcourt. Durant/Evans/Batum/Johnson are very long and complimentary on the wings.
Rondo as a proven defensive point guard, with Rubio learning the ropes from him…
Proven offense, proven defense. Youth to keep it afloat.
Yup!

Agreed here..
I, too, liked Jeremy and Sam initially, but upon further inspection, holes are evident. Kobe is already looking old this year. Nash isn’t getting any younger.
Think of what Pau, Manu, Duncan and Billups will have left in the tank in 2 years. Not much.
James has a nice squad and brings to light what much of CH has been clamoring for all year; Love surrounded by elite talent and being allowed to operate in the spaces between. Scary.
But he backed up the PF spot by drafting Favors. In two years when Duncan and Pau are wearing down Favors should be coming into his own. After Martin and Manu they are thin on shooters though.
But you can't know that Favors will pan out.
And he’s it at PF once Tim and Pau are done. Championship-level PF? In a souped-up 7-team league?
James definitely has the most youthful, yet proven players: Durant, Love, Rondo, Bynum.
Evans was ROY, Ibaka is a defensive force.
Randolph’s the oldest guy, and he turns 30 this year.
The user formerly known as Bahlgren1
I'd go Jeremy too.
Kevin Martin is an ideal player next to Westbrook and Howard.
Tyreke Evans and Rajon Rondo can’t shoot, and Andrew Bynum can’t stay healthy. Rubio might not be in the league.
I hate Kobe, but I wouldn’t bet against him. He will find a way to be effective. Plus, he’s got help to carry the offensive load. Nash is like Stockton, a freak of nature.
My Jennings—Iguodala/Mayo backcourt in year 5 is admittedly a little weak, but I still have Carmelo and Bosh to handle the O, and Jennings has the potential to be a stud PG in 2-3 years.
I went Nate
He has a pair of inside-outside combos that would be the core of a potential dynasty (Rose-Griffin) and a solid playoff team (Curry-Aldridge).
Jeremy and James are also in the mix.
I like Nate's team
Jeremy’s team probably has the most upside.

I picked Jeremy...
…because I think he’d win the next two championships and after that I see James and Nate fighting it out for the remaining three titles. I couldn’t decide which one of James and Nate would get two titles as well so I went with Jeremy because I think he’d be a mortal lock the next two seasons.
The interesting thing about his team, IMO, is by having a player like Duncan as a backup you limit his usage for the next couple of years. Same thing with Manu. If those two guys were bench reserves, I think their effectiveness would extend out into year three. If you had Dwight Howard play 30 minutes a night and Duncan play 18, you can’t tell me that isn’t the best center combo for the next three years. Having Pau Gasol and an emerging Derrick Favors would make for a devastating PF combo as well.
The real thing for me was how perfect of a fit Kevin Martin, Rudy Gay, and Russell Westbrook would be on that roster. A great mix of outside shooting, athleticism, and potentially very good defenders with that frontline backing them up.
James’ team would be great as well but I think the lack of outside shooting would hurt them against Jeremy’s team. I love Rondo and Rubio but teams would pack it in against them. I also didn’t like the headcase factor in that both Zach Randolph and Tyreke Evans were on that team. One of them would screw up the other one and make a .20 on the dollar trade inevitable.
Without question, the team that would be the most fun to watch play would be Courtney’s team. They have a lot of very skilled offensive players but not one real good interior defender. They’d have to hire Don Nelson for that team and try to score 150 a game.
I went with Nate's team
but would second guess myself in a heartbeat!
For the next 2 years if CP3’s knees hold up, I really like Aaron’s team. The only real weakness I see is at SG if JJ is out or his skills decline.
Another short term team would be Jeremy’s; Duncan, Ginobili, Gasol and Billups are all at the edge of decline so 2 years is when Favors has to get really good or it’s a 2 man team.
Casey’s team will score in buckets, but not much D to be had, outside of LBJ.
James’ team would be smoking IF Bynum stays healthy, better odds than Odem staying healthy I know, but not great odds either.
Courtney’s team needs a center in the worst possible way, Horford and Jefferson might be just that.
Sam’s team is scary good until Nash and Bryant retire, then Jennings and Mayo expose themselves.
So that leaves me with Nate’s team which has LMA out of position and Hibbert as the backup, but overall seems to have a good balance of offense and defense and enough youth to play together for 6-8 years.
I would still second guess myself all the way.
Good post Mac, lots of room for thought!

Jeremy’s team beats Courtney’s team by a title or two. Horford replaces Jefferson as the starter after the first game of the season. Jefferson becomes a great 6th man. The DWill/Amare high ballscreen is great, and everything else runs through Wade. He and Horfy anchor a solid defense too. But Jeremy’s team has too much balance, and an explosive hi-low post game. Westbrook, Gay, and Martin are all explosive scorers and Manu is the perfect “last 8 seconds of a clock side pick and roll” player. Duncan has 3 years of solid play left, then Favors takes over from there.

James
I voted for James because I believe in 3 years Durant will be the best player in the league and the rest of his starting 5 are all young and going to continue to improve over the next 5 years.
C Andrew Bynum
PF Kevin Love
SF Kevin Durant
SG Tyreke Evans
PG Rajon Rondo
I voted Nate's team
With Rose, Griffin and Curry whats not to like…….the future is bright
I took Sam
just because they have such a good team mixed with vets like Kobe they can win 2 or 3 straight then start to tail off. I love James team but with no center outside of Bynum cant trust them,
Wolves fan in Ohio
Ha, right...
So how many “brand new users” started voting for Sam out of the blue?
