Memphis not sure about Gasol coming back?
Marc Gasol: Heisley intends to sign him. He's said this multiple times. He's also said, however, that "Marc has to want to be here." It's unclear what this means, honestly, because Gasol is a restricted free agent. The Grizzlies could match any offer Gasol receives from another team whether he wants to be in Memphis or not. So nobody can quite figure out why Heisley is tacking on the "want to be here" caveat these days.
"Basically, I'm not going to sit and pay a contract which everyone says is ridiculous," said Heisley, Monday. "But my intention is to bring Marc back. If he wants to be here, he will find I will be very, very receptive."
Gasol, himself, was curiously vague on what exactly he wants. Given multiple opportunities Monday to say that Memphis is his first option, he passed.

I sense
a discrepancy in the value of Gasol perceived by Gasol, and by Heisley.
I don't do "fanshots."
The discrepancy is
between Gasol’s value to Heisley and every other GM in the league. Heisley is covering his butt by trying to pin Memphis’ hopes of Gasol on Gasol’s “wanting to be there” (aka: taking less than what other GMs are going to offer).
I sense an explosion by Zach Randolph next season. No way is Gasol going to stay in Mem for less money.

Throw as much at him as possible…and dangle the Rubio angle for the both of them, former teammates (who helped marc get to the NBA) could go a long way.
I watch this team, and i care so much, simply because i can’t not. It’s just a part of who i am..
A Love/Gasol front court would be awesome
It might not be the most ideal pairing with Rubio (I think stylistically athletes who can catch lobs would be nice) but I’ll take good players over crappy players who should theoretically fit. Plus, we’ll still have Anthony Randolph to catch lobs.
and then Flynn for Rudy Fernandez...
Rudy sucks also, but at least its a Spanish speaking level of suck…
Gasol has been discussed, it just has to have been. The thing is, Gasol has deep roots in Memphis, he went to HS there.

Memphis is a team that is going to have a salary issue.
They want Gasol. They probably don’t want to pay Gasol what he could get on the market. Gasol might even think he’s worth more than that. Who knows? The reality is that the Grizz are going to have some tough decisions to make. Mayo is gone, pretty certain of that. Can they resign Gasol, and fit him in with Gay, Conelly, and Randolph? Who will be the odd man out of that team?

Haven't you guys seen the Grant Hill PSA?
You need to stop with this hateful language.
I have growing concerns that being a fan of this team is making me more of a hipster than I ever intended to be.

I will not be surprised at all...
when we give the #2 pick (+ whatever is needed to make contracts fit) for Rudy Gay. Heisley has said he doesn’t want to move Gay, but I think it may be bullshit. If he does, I bet Kahn is the first person he calls.
I wouldn’t hate the move, because there is a non-zero chance Gay becomes exactly the player we need to balance our roster, but more then likely it would be a crippling move.

Deceptively demoralizing.

Once the expirings come off I say just throw money at him and see how serious Heisley is.
If Randolph and Gasol can work than Love and Gasol can.
Even after the expirings, we don;t have enough money to throw at him.
Maybe if we can salary dump Darko and/or Webster, we can get enough under the cap to make a real offer.
Why wouldn't we?
We’d have somewhere between 10-15mil with those contracts on the books, that is certainly enough to offer Gasol.
You forget we have to add the salaries for Rubio and or his caphold, the number 2 pick and number 20 pick.
Until we dump something we’ll be sitting at 15 players (14 without Rubio) and no substantial cap-space based on the current system.
Exactly.
Figuring in Rubio (even if he stays in Europe), the #2 and the #20, we have $51,764,039.00 committed next year.
That puts us about 6M under the cap if it stays exactly where it was this year.
I didn't forget I just don't expect Kahn to hang onto the the 2nd or the 20th pick.
I honestly think he’s going to do whatever is in his power to get rid of both of those picks for “vetern” players and a pick or two in next years draft.
Even if he does the veteran player will have some salary.
Until the shoes start dropping we don’t have much cap.
Yes I can envision trading Flynn for a future highly protected 1st as a salary dump and trading the #2 plus out-going salary for a quality veteran starter where the incoming salary is less than the out-going plus the number 2 slot would have made. It’s just this hasn’t happened yet. Darko hasn’t requested to be let out of his contract and nor should we expect that he will. The Wolves are in a position with some cap room, but not enough expiring deals that we will be one of the top FA players. Assuming we will be is putting the cart before the horse.
