Brandon Jennings (w/ poll)
I posted this already as a fanshot, but I'm curious enough to make it a poll. (Besides, who goes to fanshots, right?)
Mary Schmitt Boyer of the Plain Dealer wrote from the combine:
The Milwaukee Bucks reportedly would be open to listening to offers for guard Brandon Jennings.
Apparently the Bucks like Jimmer at #10, and might be open to moving Jennings to flesh out their team elsewhere.
Now, putting the Rubio uncertainty aside for a moment (because if he's coming, this is probably a non-issue), should the Wolves look into this? My opinion has always been if they don't land Irving, they should trade their pick for a good guard on a rookie deal. (And unfortunately my guy James Harden's likely played himself out of this conversation.) Other people feel different, of course. And either way, where exactly is the comfort level for moving, say, a #2 pick?
So I'm curious...

No intrest in Jennings.
He’s still living off the rep of that 55 point game.
He’s a chucker that hits under 40% of his shots, doesn’t get to the line a whole lot and only manages a 2-1 assist to turnover ratio.

Yep.
The fact that they want to ditch him for Jimmer speaks volumes.
Go Suns, Packers, Jays, and Huskers!
Green Bay Packers: Super Bowl XLV Champions!!!!
I actually prefer Beasley to Jennings
if we need a high volume shooter, just keep Beast. The only high volume shooter that’s supposedly gettable and I want is Monta Ellis.
Jennings kinda has some Beasley in him
talented, but he’ll never reach his outer limits.
We Want Williams!
I made this quick list on bb-ref searching for players who were 6’-6’2", 20-25 years old, had a TS% of 490 or better, usage rate of 25% or better, AST%> 25, and TO%<15.
While there are intriguing names, it doesn’t take long to see Jennings shooting is well below the others. I even thought his numbers would be a little more common, but even cherry-picking guys…..even someone like Marbury was cracking 40% his first couple years.
In other words, I said in the fanshot I’d be cool with dealing for him, but upon review, I’d change my mind. Even though I’m pretty down on the prospects of what they’ll get with the draft, and even though Jennings appealed in the sense that he plays the role I’d like to see on the Wolves and we know what his floor is, it appears he’s just got too long a hill to climb.
If you substitute a 39% raw floor percentage for the TS% in the criteria above, the list is becomes Barea, Louis Williams, Shammond Williams, and Dujauan Wagner.
What’s weird about Jennings is right now he’s a better player on the defensive end. Don’t think many people saw that coming.
...so long as they get a real guard
It's possible we already have Jennings
in Rubio. However, right now Rubio has a little more upside I think.
Yeah, I'd rather stick with Rubio.
I enjoy watching Jennings, even though I understand the criticisms. (In Madison, it’s a lot easier to see Bucks games.)
I would trade Flynn for Jennings

This poll
didn’t give me an option to adequately express my distaste for this trade.
But Simitar summed up my feelings nicely.
, said Mplax.
Ugh
Don’t want Jennings, if we are gonna get that type of player, we’d be much better off with Monte Ellis. Jennings is just chucker.
Trade Flynn and Rubio for Jennings
Ok, we still need that #2 pick for the draft because it is a good draft year but Jennings would help us a lot! Brandon Jennings is only 21 and he has impressed a lot of people already with his skill with the ball. Jonny Flynn has done nothing and will be nothing. After watching Flynn the last couple of months of the season, it seems like he got worst. He can’t shoot at all and is taking unnecessary shots. Rubio will be nothing if he comes over to the NBA, he can’t score or really do anything. If he doesn’t do good over there, how would it be any different over here? And you can’t say he’s only 20 and will improve because Jennings is 21 and will improve even more and he already is a star.
Not good?
You seriously don’t think this is a good draft year? Here is how I compare the nba draft guys to nba players: Kyrie Irving-Chris Paul: Derrick Williams-Michael Beasley: Brandon Knight-Jrue Holiday: Enes Kanter-Al Horford: Jonas Valanciunas-Nenad Krstic: Jan Vesely-Mike Dunleavy: Kemba Walker-Gilbert Arenas: Kawhi Leonard-Gerald Wallace: Tristan Thompson-LaMarcus Aldridge: Alec Burks-Eddie Jones. Don’t tell me these NBA players weren’t really good.
But it doesn't work that way.
Just because you think players resemble current NBA players doesn’t mean it will work out that way. Every year prospects are compared to current players, and every year more flame out than become stars.
Go Suns, Packers, Jays, and Huskers!
Green Bay Packers: Super Bowl XLV Champions!!!!
I think there are plenty of really intruiging prospects in this draft
However most of them are gettable around 20 rather than 2. I think there just isn’t much to differentiate picks 3-10 or 11+. For instance whos better between Kemba, Kanter, Vesely and Leonard? I like Kanter the best just because of his height (and Kemba’s lack) but I could see Kanter flaming out and Leonard being the next Crash. Brandon Knight also projects as enough of a project that I would think twice about taking him.
At a lower tier I like Biyombo and Burks but do not want either of the Morris twins or Hamilton and would draft Brooks, Darius Morris and Reggie Jackson before them. Tristan Thompson I don’t know enough about but Klay Thompson was too much of a jump shooter from what I saw for me to think he’s better than Brooks (whose main problem is shot selection).
How?
It can work out that way? I’m just comparing what they our potentially going to be like, not what they are now. Trust me, Irving will be one of the best.
You're not comparing anyone to anything.
But nbadraft.net seems to have a few ideas.
How about these comparisons from the past, alss from nbadraft.net:
Joe Alexander – Shawn Marion
Yi Jianlian – Pau Gasol
Jerryd Bayless – Gilbert Arenas
Hasheem Thabeet – Dikembe Mutombo
Andrea Bargnani – Dirk Nowitzki
Adam Morrison – LARRY BIRD
Shelden Williams – Emeka Okafor
Randy Foye – Chauncey Billups
Saer Sene – Dikembe Mutombo
Go Suns, Packers, Jays, and Huskers!
Green Bay Packers: Super Bowl XLV Champions!!!!
Hahahahahahahahahahahahahahaha.
Actually I’m not sure which one is worse: Morrison-Bird or Stevenson-Jordan. At least Stevenson has had an NBA career, more than Morrison can say.
Go Suns, Packers, Jays, and Huskers!
Green Bay Packers: Super Bowl XLV Champions!!!!
So, let me get this straight...
Flynn and Rubio are “nothings” and Jennings “has impressed a lot of people.”
So if your premises are accurate, then why would Milwaukee do that deal again?
I'm a Jennings fan; I think injuries set him back last year and he will end up as a better Conley one day.
No way in hell would I trade the #2 pick for him.

Agreed - I'd trade No. 20 + Flynn if Milwaukee is trying to dump Jennings.
But definitely not the No. 2.
I don't know if
this is the right place for him, he NEEDS to learn to be a distributor not a scorer.
Honestly
We won’t know how good this draft is until about a few years, It could be really bad or it good be really good, all we can do at this point is guess.
