Another Veteren SG Option...
Let's say that we can't get a good trade done for an experienced SG (iggy, Monta, etc), or maybe make a trade for a veteren C/a godsend lets us pickup Marc Gasol in FA. Now that the scene is set how would everyone feel about signing this veteren SG....?
I'm assuming there were a few people who just gagged, already left this post, or at least scoffed....but hear me out.
Tracy is coming off his first severe injury free season since 06-07, and some of his numbers are as good as they've been since he started getting injured every season, questionably from over-usage early in his career. Also he is a FA and could be had for as little as 700K to 1ML for a one year deal, depending on any other interest in him. Say we draft Marshon Brooks, I think Tracy would be a good player to learn from. Seeing Tracy play this past season I thought he looked better than he has in a very long time. Although last season is hard to judge because of all the havoc going on within the Piston organization, which makes me think he would not be interested in resigning.
Per Game Stats FG% 3pt% FT% PTS
04-05 (pre-injury streak) HOU .431 .326 .774 25.7
10-11 DET .442 .341 .698 8.0
Career .435 .337 .747 20.4
Clearly the big drop you see is in his points per game. I blame the Detroit blow up for some of this, but he just doesn't have that cold-blooded scoring instinct anymore. But the rest of his numbers look pretty good. He's become a more efficient player, and I think he could be helpful.
Seeing as though Tracy is quite old here is how I suggest we use him. Beginning of the season McGrady will start the games to be a steady hand next to Rubio, helping "learn the ropes". Brooks/draft pick/Wes come off the bench early, then depending on how well rotations work, after halftime the younger player plays with the starters the rest of the game, and McGrady plays with the second team to give them stability, averaging around 20-25 minutes a game. If said young player EARNS it, they may relieve McGrady for the starting position, but they must earn it and if they slip up McGrady takes the spot back.
I realize that this situation may be less than ideal, but if we can't make a big trade I think it's better than what we would offer instead. I don't think T-Mac's career is over, though it probably is over with Detroit. Brooks measured similar to McGrady when he entered the league, and he could really help Wes in showing him how to take advantage of match-ups as an oversized 2 guard.
Keep in mind, this is not my first choice, but with how things go for the organization, it could be plausible. Thoughts?

Shoot...
The formatting kind of screwed up the stats portion, gotta learn how to do that correctly ha ha.
I watch this team, and i care so much, simply because i can’t not. It’s just a part of who i am..
I can't imagine
McGrady, or any ringless vet whose career is winding down opting to sign with the Wolves. He’s made enough money, and he’s had an impressive career. If McGrady goes somewhere this offseason he’ll probably be taking a bench role on a contender. If he’s slipped to the point that the Wolves are the only team chasing him, he might sign with us but otherwise I don’t see anything alluring about our situation for him. I like the idea though.
As someone mentioned below
I was hoping the allure of offering him a starting role would help a little. otherwise, I was banking on no offers from real contending teams, and those offers probly at the minimum. The only contending team I could see with need of him would be the Bulls, but they seem more interested in drafting a shooter to spot up for Rose.
No clue though, I just thought that he wouldn’t be a bad “constellation” prize for a veteren SG if we can’t get a big trade done.

Interesting
What’s his age and how’s his defense. I’m not interested in seeing anyone added to the team that doesn’t play at least average defense.

he is 31
Up there, but due to missing alot of recent seasons with injuries that he “took more time than needed” to come back from he seems fresher than 31. He used to not play much defense due to effort ala Beasley. but towards the end of his best years, and last season he seemed to have much more effort on the defensive side of the ball. Avg about 1 steal a game and .7 blocks a game…his length helps him make shots more difficult.

I would be happy to sign him at the veteran minimum, but I can't see him going for it.
The one argument I can think for him coming over, is that we are on the shortlist of teams that could offer him a starting job.
That's also what i was hoping would sway him into it
that and there being no chance (my deduction) that he’d resign with the Pistons.

Would he be a good fit with the Bulls?
It was obvious after last night that they need another perimeter player that create his own shot.

I blame the coach
for Chicago’s problems here, no doubt Rose is their best player BUT that doesn’t mean he should be a chucker, Deng & Boozer are very capable of putting up big numbers on the offensive end, but Rose like Westbrook is trying to do way too much.
I think they want a player out of the draft
that can just stand there and shoot, and create a shot off pump and dribble.
Which is why they’re top prospect is Marshon Brooks, but they fear he will be gone by their 28th(?) pick. And I think he absolutely will be…If we pass on him if he is still there at 20 I will be very upset, very upset.

I would offer him an absurd amount.
Like 4.5 millions for two years (2.25 per). This type of vet should feel proud of a team that sees him as more than fodder.Happy player, happy agent , reasonable obligation. There are important factors as the young players getting along with a great has been to learn the ropes. T-Mac should make them more knowledgeable about what bugs superstars and how, eventually, get there. Refs won´t argue with him in the same tone as Ridnour or Darko. Players could feel urgency as they see that the explosiveness is gone at early thirties, he coud tell them about the lost years messing around, throwing their talent to waste. A coach can talk, but he is a walking fact.
I have another vet SG in mind..
Michael Redd?
He didn't look too bad at the end of the year
just an idea

True or false
Michael Beasley = Michael Redd 2.0

I'd count him as the next resort after T-Mac
But I like where your heads at. I’d have more concerns with Redd though…he is in the constantly injured phase of his aging, he’d probably need to be limited to 15 min a night.
I didn’t see him at the end of the year, did he play any D?

He played in 10 games:
Averaged 13 minutes. 4.4 PPG (40%/24%/100%), .8 RPG, 1.2 APG, .2 SPG.
My big concern is
He’s torn BOTH his ACL and MCLin his left knee TWICE in the past 2 years. And he’ll be 32 when the next season starts.
