Not taking Derrick Williams because you have Beasley and Wes Johnson is like not taking Adrian Peterson because you have Chester Taylor.
Chester Taylor is fine but he is not AP.
Imagine, I know this a stretch but the T-Wolves are in the playoffs, and they need baskets. Who do you want shooting down the stretch, Beasley and his avg. effiency or Williams and his 58% 3 pt shooting? Look at the recent SI article,
Williams is the most efficient player in college basketball as a total package. To have a 58% college 3 point shooter at one forward and a 45% pro 3 point shooter for your other creates a wide open well spaced offense for a good passer like Rubio.
But you say, he is athletically limited. He is more of an athlete than Paul Pierce, and Paul Pierce has found a way to get it done from everywhere for more than a decade. 9 teams passed on Pierce. That same year the Bucks traded Dirk Nowitzki for Tractor Traylor. We can’t be those teams.
You don’t trade a guy who could easily become your best player to get pieces. You move pieces to get other pieces and you take the very likely star. You win with Stars in this league. We have a great complimentary star in Love. Another potential one in Rubio.
Use your cap room, the #20 pick and your other pieces to get pieces like DeRozen, Javale McGee or Steven Jackson, not the #2 pick.
Beasley is a nice piece, Wes can be a good role player. But we don’t have a Alpha Dog, a take charge give me the ball and get out of my way and oh by the way I am going to score from deep, from the post, on a drive or from the line, I will score, guy. DWill is that guy.
Every great team has that guy.
To trade that guy is insane.<!--EndFragment-->
