SBjake gets ripped hard around here at times, but one of his ideas got me thinking.
Beasley to Cleveland. Now, I don't think we could get the #4 for him, but what about the only other player we've really wanted from their roster? Varejao.
A couple of observations/assumptions/rumors
- Cleveland has been rumored to want to trade up to #2 so they can pick Williams
- Beasley and Williams have been considered "comparable" players
- Besides the obvious need at SG, we could use a better C.
- I don't see a HUGE difference between playing Beasley out of position at 3 vs. Williams out of position at 3.
Varejao is due 7,700,000 next year (or 3/25,200,000 w/o adding team option) according to hoopshype
Beasley is due 6,262,347 next year
I think this will work straight up as a trade and would provide them with the closest player to Williams they can get w/o us giving up the #2. It gets us a defensive minded center without giving up the #2.
and Cleveland runs out a new starting lineup featuring Irving, Beasley, and Kanter.
We'd obviously still want to make some trades to get ourselves in a position to pick up more help at SG, but Wes/Williams/Love would make up for any lack of 3pt. shooting from Rubio.
A follow-up deal could be something like starting the winner of a AR/Wes/Webster deathmatch at 3 and moving the #2 for Iggy.
