RUBIO FINALLY!!!!

"After thinking a lot with my family and the club, I decided to leave." With these words Ricky Rubio reported that eventually will leave the NBA to play next season in the Minnesota Timberwolves franchise that has rights in the American League after choosing in fifth place in the 2009 draft.Ricky has appeared before the media in a scene that had some parallels with anticipation I had with the decision by Lebron James when he decided to go to the Miami Heat.

As Joan Creus has announced compensation to receive the Regal FC Barcelona for the transfer was agreed upon is that when he signed two years ago, a million dollars. Minnesota and Ricky will pay $ 500,000 and another half million Regal Barça save a preferential option for rescue services if you decide to someday return to Europe.

"I've never gone to Barcelona, I've never lived anywhere else and that's a little scary." It's clearly showed when asked about the fact move to a city and a country so different. However, Ricky said that the NBA game, much faster and open field is best suited to their qualities.

EDIT: Oceanary here with a quick update. Per Jerry Zgoda, the Wolves will introduce Rubio at a press conference Tuesday. We'll update further with the time as it's announced.

and in that article, Kahn:

“Doesn’t play a factor,” he said. “Bottom line is, we have to find the best talent available. We’ve got to get players who can play at a high level. Whoever that might be, we’re going to find them. We need players.”

That final sentiment might be the most honest/revealing remark we’ve gotten out our our GM in the past two years. (even if the claim in the previous sentence is entirely groundless)

by dontbesomean youngfella on Jun 17, 2011 7:38 AM CDT reply actions

That's actually a quote from Ronzone, at least according to the Zgoda column.
For weeks, Kahn has not publicly addressed Rambis’ future as coach. On Thursday, Ronzone was asked if the team’s scouting process has been altered because of such uncertainty.

“Doesn’t play a factor,” he said. “Bottom line is, we have to find the best talent available. We’ve got to get players who can play at a high level. Whoever that might be, we’re going to find them. We need players.”

His coming is

not merely a signing but an event. His looks and flash should initially put people in the seats—particularly the Taylor Swift demographic—teen and pre-teen girls. They Lynx tonight have father/daughter. Can see the Wolves now having mother/daughter night (jk).

by Elastico on Jun 17, 2011 7:51 AM CDT reply actions

Rubio's coming to the Wolves

Is equivalent of Farve to the Vikings.

I wonder if we can get Rambis to go pick him up at the airport from Taylor’s private jet?

LOL, Ok, I hope this is a lot like Farve’s first year and nothing like his second…

Now will you all please raise your right hand ... and place the paper bag over your head.

What???

Your comment…sigh….comparing the significance of this signing of Rubio and Favre..I have three words to describe this…“Hey Kool-Aid.”…It’s good to be excited about what The Wolves may do next season….then again, we still have an inept Owner, a GM, that well, I think enough has been said about his decision making, and the coach, or who the coach may b. Oh…and then there’ s the current roster and how the palyed together….This season will not be like Favre’s first…we won’t be a playoff contender for at least another two years…but it won’t be as disastrous as Favre’s last season either.

(The Wolves still need to have an editor comb over Jonah Ballow's stuff.)
Alleviating the pressure to perform on basketball’s grand stage at 18 years old, Rubio inked a deal with FC Barcelona, creating an affordable buyout and allowing the point guard to spend some formidable years close to home.

“Formative” was the intention there, for “formidable.” Heh.

Jonah’s doing everything as a one man show. No matter how good a writer you might be, you can’t write and edit and do your Five-on-Five show and so on, all under time pressure, and not have goof-ups.

Interesting tidbit from the Zgoda article

That I hadn’t hear before (but had probably just missed it.

Williams has been working out with Timberwolves’ Wes Johnson and Michael Beasley in Los Angeles during recent weeks.

and

“I think, actually, it’d be hard to guard if you have three small forwards on the court at one time,” Williams said. “Wes can stretch the defense. Beasley can stretch the defense. So can I. I can play the 4 [power forward] spot or Mike can play it. Either way, it’s going to be a mismatch if we’re both on the court at the same time.”

Now will you all please raise your right hand ... and place the paper bag over your head.

by Cedarpenguin on Jun 17, 2011 8:19 AM CDT reply actions

He's hinting at our secret weapon, the all-forwards lineup.

But we’ve got to wait for BJelly to come over to play the point.

Let's realize the importance of family

Rubio has a supportive family and, apparently, a life in Spain that he truly enjoyed. I believe he had trepidations about leaving all that, not just for the Wolves situation, but for the NBA as a whole. He had a sense of place which I can appreciate. Americans are used to athletes who will go anywhere to chase money, fame, and bling. We have a hard time with folks who seem comfortable with their station in life. Welcome, Ricky. I hope you come to view Minneapolis as a second home.

Czech migration dictated American beer culture from the mid-19th century on.

Lagering was the big trend at the time, and Pilseners were immensely popular. The Czechs came over with their beer recipes en masse in those years, and it turned out that Minnesota had limestone caves that were perfectly suited for lagering. That’s why Minnesota had hundreds of breweries before the temperance movement and prohibition wrecked everything.

The Czechs rule!
