Idea for a Cleveland, Minnesota, and Lakers trade

Greetings Canis Hoopus! I am an avid follower and a one time poster (my first post wasn't met with the greatest response). If you are like me, you have been reading all of the trade ideas bantered about regarding tomorrow nights draft and are excited that the T'Wolves are going to leave the draft with an more solid, yet still very promising young team.

I just read a post on Probasketballtalk.com got me thinking of a trade that I think would work well for all parties involved. Probasketball talk is suggesting that the Lakers have an interest in Anderson Varejao. With that in mind, I am proposing that the T'Wolves get involved in the following trade with Cleveland and the Lakers:

Cleveland receives: #2 pick

Lakers receive: Anderson Varejao, Jonny Flynn, and filler if need be

Minnesota receives: #4 pick, Andrew Bynum

I am certainly not as up to speed on all of the all of the intracacies need to pull off a trade like this, but this might be a good starting point.

Here is why I think it is a win for all teams involved:

Cleveland would end up drafting both Irving and Williams allowing them to jump-start their rebuilding process.

With a new coach in place the Lakers would be able to bring in an energy player that has played for Mike Brown as well as bringing in a young point guard with upside. They would also shed some salary in this scenario.

The T'Wolves would walk away from this draft with a young stud (albeit kind of a punk) center and would have both the #4 and #20 picks to either continue to wheel and deal for Iggy, Ellis, etc... or draft a great shooting guard or Bismark Biyombo.

I would love to hear everyone's thoughts on this trade.

......

Did you just propose that we get Andrew Bynum for Jonny Flynn and moving down two spots in the draft? Seriously?

I feel like you must have accidentally deleted some piece of that trade.

I have to concur..

The Lakers are giving up Bynum for Varejo, Flynn and filler. No way this happens.

BYNUM CAN STAY OUT OF MY CITY

i don’t want that injured and stupid hot head! the wolves can’t have anyone making a fool out of themselves and making stupid technical/flagrant fouls. We should have nothing to do with this.

#4 pick would go to Lakers

You guys could get a couple of 2nd rounders and Shannon Brown. Just an idea.

Clarifying

“Did you just propose that we get Andrew Bynum for Jonny Flynn and moving down two spots in the draft? Seriously?”

If you look at it that way, then yes I did propose that. The fact of the matter is I really don’t believe this comment accurately describes the above trade. From the Lakers perspective it shouldn’t/doesn’t matter at all what the Wolves receive for the #2 pick. As long as the Wolves have the assets that the Lakers want in exchange for Bynum.

To me it is very similar to the Beasley trade with Miami. Given Beasley’s talent should we have gotten him for what amounts to a second round pick and a bag of chips? No! That trade should never have happened if you think all trades have a equal basketball talent going to each team.

In the case of my proposed trade, the Lakers would get a P&R point guard of the future, a solid, high energy big that Mike Brown is very comfortable with, and some salary cap relief for a team projected to have a $91M payroll next year. Not a bad trade for an oft injured Andrew Bynum.

You can put lipstick on a pig

but it’s still a pig.
It may sound nice to say the trade is for a P&R pg of the future and a solid high energy big but when you name those two Flynn and Varijao they you see a much clearer picture.
Maybe you are the person I can sell my car to as well. It is one of the most reliable brands out there and gets excellent gas milage. Just don’t ask about the oil leaking onto the timing belt and the fact that it was already totalled by the insurance company.
