What I think needs to happen tonight

This is not a post where there will be a specific trade idea thrown out there. I am simply listing the things I want to see done by the end of the night.

- We need to ship Darko and Flynn out of town

- Select Derrick Williams and deal him (possibly with the names listed above) for either a veteran center or 2 guard and a lottery pick. And by veteran I don't mean like 37 year old vet. You get my point.

- One way or another, with the 2 remaining picks we have, select whichever position we do not trade for (trade for center, draft a 2-guard, and vice-versa)

I personally would like to swing a deal with PHI and go to sleep tonight with Andre Iguodala and Bismack Biyombo.

I just have a bad feeling that Kahn doesn't see 2-guard as a position of need (Wes is the answer), and that Darko will be starting for us again next season. I feel this way because.... Well.... I'm a Wolves fan, lol.

I don't see why you want to ship out Darko.

It’s not like his contract is unreasonable. Especially if Rambis is gone and we stop running the offense through him, he’s definitely an acceptable back-up/spot-starting center.

I want Biyombo too but I don’t want him starting for at least a year or two unless he totally exceeds expectations on the offensive end. I would actually be really happy with Biyombo as the backup and Darko as the starter…Biyombo’s passion might actually rub off on Darko, who could hold down the starting spot until Biyombo is ready.

That said, I think there’s a very small chance the Wolves end up with Biyombo. In my head it’s less than 5%.

Agreed.

Every roster needs a legitimate 7 footer that blocks a few shot here and there.

Disagree.

I am fine with Williams if he is the top talent and let he, Beasley, Love and AR battle for minutes on a team that often plays small and tries to get three of them on the floor at the same time.

Use the #20 to get need. If someone like Marshon Brooks, or Jimmer (unlikely) falls pick then and get then some minutes at the 2.

I am fine with packaging Flynn, Darko and the 20 for something if you can get it. I’d be curious to see if you could get Iggy for something that does not involve the #2 pick. He is not getting as much interest as they thought because of contract size and they have made it obvious they are open to moving him.

I also think that if you have a glut of forwards that established vets with big contracts come much cheaper at the trade deadline. That is when I think you get more for someone like Beasley than you can at draft time.

Wayy to many good vets had for nothing by teams willing to dump salary at the deadline. Look at the Pau Gasol trade to see what I mean. Sign and trades at the dealine will bring more in return than I think they do today.

And if you can use Flynn and the #20 to get a functional 2 to go with your forwards and Rubio, I think you can get by nicely with Darko, Pek and some time with AR or Love playing 5 in small ball time.

And another thing......

One thing I do agree with that McHale said when he was coach. Sometimes you just need some continuity and guys grow and learn playing together over time. A veteran addition would help and I think we should get one, but all these scenarios of retooling half the roster all the time I think can be counter productive.
