Draft D-Will then Trade
I think this is the best option for the wolves and the safest option. As we saw the Wolves take OJ Mayo and later get Kevin Love, Mike Miller, and get rid of long term contracts. Draft Williams, then whoever the Wolves are targeting later Burks, Kanter, Biyombo, etc. then trade once the picks are made.
The draft is always unpredictable teams will reach for who they really want and each team grades each player differently. For example the Thunder taking Westbrook and Harden higher than others thought, while the Wolves taking Flynn higher then most would have. Its a guessing game to know what each team is thinking.
Thats why we take Williams then see how the top 15 picks pan out. Say the Wolves take Williams at 2 and they want Biyombo he falls to pick 13 for the Suns, could we entice the Suns to trade us Nash and Biyombo for D-Will??
Thats just one scenario we can all sit here and give out our mock drafts and then draft night someone goes really high nobody expected and somebody drops out of the top ten that was supposedly a lock.
Draft D-Will at 2 then see how the draft pans out, im not going to credit Mchale because I dont know if this was his thinking but he made a nice deal getting Kevin Love and I think we could all agree, and agree that we wouldve been irate if we took Love over Mayo at pick 2.
Vote on the poll and let me know if you remember other times teams have drafted high then traded to get the guy they covet and other assets.

hmm
I would have to think the only risk you would run is that if we truly do want byambo that if we just take the wait and see approach to see what team picks him were running the risk that the team i.e. the suns don’t have the assets we are looking for or the salary doesn’t match up to make it work.
I think having something figured out pre-draft would be ideal, i know we can’t technically trade our pick because you can’t trade picks in back to back drafts and we already traded our pick next year. So essentially we have to draft at #2, though we could be picking for someone else.
we can trade our pick
because we have another selection this year. If we didn’t have #20, then we couldn’t.
No one is getting Rubio's rights unless they pry them from our cold dead fingers.

Isn't this how nearly all trades work?
I thought this was the norm. It is the mistake made by many NBA observers that picks get traded. The Ty Lawson trade was an example. We really did trade the pick but the mechanics of the trade had us take the player on behalf of the Nuggets, then trade the player. This allows teams to work around the "consecutive picks’ rule. I don’t see any scenario where any of these trade ideas happen prior to draft night. It would handcuff teams for next year. Any trade will happen after picks are made. If we do trade the second pick, it won’t be announced until the player or players we want are picked later in the draft.
The weakness of this draft is at SG.
I think it is unlikely we will fill a need there as others covet Burks too much. 82 games says this is our weakest position and SF our second weakest. Courtside Analyst says SF is our weakest position. Beasley I’m afraid is just not a student of the game the way Love and Rubio are. I think Toliver is and Williams will be. Pek will get better at Center hopefully and at SG……where is Wes this Summer? So draft Williams and keep him I hope.
Say the Wolves take Williams at 2 and they want Biyombo he falls to pick 13 for the Suns, could we entice the Suns to trade us Nash and Biyombo for D-Will??
If Biyombo miraculously falls, I have to think we keep him. As we are discussing on the PHX trade thread, maybe if that happens we send Gortat+13 or whatever for Williams. But trading Nash AND Biyombo for D-Will? Absolutely not.
Go Suns, Packers, Jays, and Huskers!

Just hypothetical
im not sure who the Wolves want but they have someone in mind that they wanna trade down for thats just a scenario I could think of where they could get a defensive center and a vet.

They have to keep the pick until they draft
I’d argue they should keep it until the new CBA is in place. As much as people want immediate results, I can’t endorse making a deal in a system that’s about to change, and in a new system, the deal is likely to be better than it would be before it expires. I still think they need to make deals before the season, but if waiting means a better deal, they have to take the better deal.

"I’d argue they should keep it until the new CBA is in place."
That might not be for months after the draft. By then trading would no longer be an option.
Why wouldn't trading be an option?
They can trade players that they draft any time they want. The restrictions apply to new free agents.

I really don't like this poll.
Seriously, no option of trade down during the draft?
If Biyombo falls to 13
I would rather try to trade up from #20 and get him.
Why not something more like #20 & Beasley for #13 (Biyombo)?
I haven’t taken enough time to looks at the Suns roster to see if that would make sense for them, but this is all hypothetical, I’m just trying to point out that instead of fixating on trying to trade down, think about trading up if he falls far enough.
Now will you all please raise your right hand ... and place the paper bag over your head.
With all due respect
There is no way Biyombo is better than Beasley.
