Today's the day professional playoff basketball returns to Minnesota for the first time since George Bush's first term in the White House. The Minnesota Lynx take on the San Antonio Silver Stars in the first round of the WNBA playoffs.
Anyone who has attended a Lynx win this year at the Target Center knows about the traditional dance held at center court after the game. But very few know the background of the song that accompanies the dance.
After each Lynx home win, a few players from the Lynx form a circle and dance along to Sir Mix-a-Lot's Jump On It
You are probably aware of Sir Mix-a-Lot's version of the song. You may not be quite as familiar with The Sugarhill Gang's earlier rendition, nor the artistic video that accompanied it:
If you liked The Sugarhill Gang's interpretation, you will absolutely LOVE the video for the instrumental that inspired The Sugarhill Gang. Here is The Incredible Boingo Band with their 1973 amazing, awe-inspiring video for Apache:
If this video doesn't drive the Lynx and their fans toward an eventual WNBA championship, I'm not sure what will.
