Your mother
must be very proud
"I don't think I've ever seen a group that is as good at turning the ball over as this one." Rick Adelman
Im' never first on these things..
I had to announce it.. and yes.. she’s proud
It's a game!
I like it.

"I don't think I've ever seen a group that is as good at turning the ball over as this one." Rick Adelman
He's a competent wing player
How would he fit in here?
We should bring in more scrub big men; they make good curse fodder.
that was very nice by Luke on both ends..

Hanneman's best call of the week
Gotta love the “cool hand luke” reference
"Some people just want to watch the world burn"
We haven't heard a "rise and shine rookies" call yet
I hope all of the oops go to Randolph so that I don’t have to hear him say that again.
Gary, you didn't kill your brother. Those gorillas did.
Good call Luke
Don’t pass to a big busting his ass down the court, you take it
Over on the Bulls Blog
They were blowing up Rubio and saying he’s shitting in his pants getting ready to guard Rose.
By the end of the 2nd half it was “you know, Rubio kinda reminds me of Steve Nash”
“Ya, He’s the real deal. Good D on Rose.”
I like the way he moves his feet and fights through screens..
he also helps well
And he's a great rebounder for a pg
I’m cool having great as the adjective there.

Ya, I bet Ricky gets real scared to go against NBA stars
After having already done it in the Olympics.

They were expecting an unselfis pass
Hey Chicago, that wasn’t Rubio dribbling. Hahahahaha!
"I don't think I've ever seen a group that is as good at turning the ball over as this one." Rick Adelman
does this mean RR starts next game?
given this third quarter change
He's going at Derrick Rose and, right now, outplaying him
If that’s not how you earn a starting spot, then Adelman is deliberately using him on the bench regardless.
Harsher Than Scissors
I can't imagine a scenario
where they somehow manage the feat of winning this one, and RA doesn’t start this line up next game
The Bulls Blog
hates this entire state right now, btw.

There really isn't a spot on the floor

Except for this litte square area
In the right sideline corner, in front of the 5th chair from the end…

Deng

Why
does Rubio guard the PGs and Barea guards the SGs? Rubio’s 6’5 and Barea’s 5’10. There has to be a reason.
I'd say 5'10" is generous

Plus Williams actually being a rookie
Where Ricky is not even close to one
It's crazy
how many of his TOs are because of his teammates not reading the play correctly.
One thing about Rose that's very noticeable
Is he is extremely calm on the court. A lot of other pgs have got annoyed by Ricky. He isn’t showing anything at all. This might be because of his total lack of visible personality, but it’s still a good attribute.

In the finale of a back-to-back-to-back
I’m not sure their teammates are fond of it.
Not that they’ve earned minutes; the roster is just threadbare.
All the better
Guys were definitely tired, and I wish this roster was deeper. Still, I was happy about this more from Adelman’s perspective—if he’s not willing to go with them in the third game in three nights situation, we might (hopefully) be seeing less of them in the future, too.
It's weird.
I still think CP3 is the best “PG,” but, Rose is a better player. I might even say Deron is a better PG too, but I’d still say Rose is the better player.

Unlike yesterday
This has positives. I’m not even unhappy about this loss. The Bulls are going to be in the Eastern Conference Finals. We might, with luck, edge the eighth seed. And, you know, we made them work for it. The Bulls shot great. Rose played MVP-caliber ball. Their role players were completely on. Our star player wasn’t entirely on. And we were still there. That’s something to work with.

In the 1stt and 4th they were beyond lethal on long 2s and 3’s. Something like 16-20, hard to tell.
He who rides a wolf cannot dismount.
They shot .550 on threes for the game!
And it’s not like we gave them that many open looks – they were just on fire tonight. Whoever plays them when they return to Earth is lucky.
There were a lot of open 3's I seem to remember

Adelman HAS brought out the best in Beas
Unfortunately, this is Beasley at his best – a guy who slowly learns his role is NOT to be the primary scorer, but just to hustle and play semi-decent defense. Turning former stars into role players can be just as difficult as turning role players into stars – meaning impossible. Can’t ask Beas to do much else, except trade or cut himself.
I think Rubio is bringing the best out of him more than RA
Of course I’m not in the locker room at all, but it seems to me that Williams + Randolph have natural chemistry with Rubio

If he turns down a contract off
The team can make a “qualifying” one-year offer, which he can accept (or I don’t know the other option, exactly) or he can sign an offer sheet, which will never happen. When he accepts the QO and plays out next season, he’s an UFA

And, I don’t think he is limited to one year based on the QO
Alan Horton does oustanding work on the radio.

The only part I don’t like is when they bring a high school coach in to chat about high school sports instead of the game during the 2nd quarter. But this year I’m kinda interested in, you know, the game that I cannot see (if I’m listening radio).

Is there any evidence DWill is a PF not a SF
Looks like no post game, but still sitting at 16.2 PER with mostly a perimeter game.
The DWill skeptics make a fair point
that really who you can guard defines the position you play.
Williams is offensively a 3 with a bullet, he shoots three’s, he drives to the lane and plays on the perimeter.
If he can guard 3’s he will be able to be a 3…or at least show enough on 3’s to not destroy the teams defensive efforts

That's the thing
He is actually slow, even compared to a lot of 4’s. He makes quick moves, but has slow feet. No way he can guard a 3, and quite frankly, probably never will.
Yeah...Idk, plenty of slower players have been great defensively
Battier, Artest, Pierce
I don’t think he’s quite as slow as it appear you do. I also don’t guarantee he will be a career 3…I think he has a legitimate chance to make it happen. But there have been plenty of very fine defenders that would not be classified as “fast” players.
Whether Williams can channel that or not is up for debate, but I don’t think 11 games into his career it’s an automatic he’ll never be able to do it

Especially for a guy that isn't a 3
I like him, and I love love love the energy he brings. But selling high on a guy that doesn’t totally fit our team might not be bad.
Or we just build a team around our best players
and make it work.
NYK gets Chandler, Fields and Shumpert to compliment STAT/Melo (basically 3 defensive players/ball movers)
Love is already better than Stat and in many ways Melo….unless you’re getting request value for him (i.e. an under 25 young stud) I think you’re better off just getting a 2 guard and C that compliment your best players and working around whatever issue might rise.

Lol, you worked that in well
But NYK has star SF/PF players, who can shift to PF/C if need be, with compliments at the 2 and 5.
We have PF/PF who can slide to the PF/C if need be (that’s Williams/Love, respectively). Our next star being Rubio at the 1. We need compliments at the 2/3/5. Williams and Love’s low versatility is our main problem. Or actually, our main problem is the shitty rest of our team, but their low versatility limits the ways we can solve the other problems.
Who does Carmelo guard though?
It’s not like NYK counts on him for any defense at all.
I wouldn’t be surprised at all if Williams is as good of a career defensive player as Anthony…which isn’t very good.
I’d say Love and Williams can shift from 3/4 to 4/5 pending on the matchup.
if we had drafted Curry in 2009 would we look to move him because he and Rubio aren’t a great defensive tandem? I don’t think so. I think you just make it work with your best players…again unless there is a requisite trade for a young stud that better fits our team
I don't know what an art house is, I don't know what goes on in an art house, I have never been in an art house, and I can't imagine it's any place I ever want to be.

You are right in the defensive idea
I just think Will doesn’t have a 3 game. He can drive (kind of, when it’s clear already) and shoot, but he isn’t a 3. He game is a lot like Love’s. Anyways, let’s try it out and see, and I think 4/5 has some feet, but I really doubt these 2 can play to their full potential together.
Starting Lineup....Rubio, Ridnour, Beasley, Love, and Randolph.
I like Derick Williams but he is still learning and his energy is great of the bench, so Beasley should still start until Williams get more experience.

I’ll judge this year’s Wolves on how they perform against mediocre and bad teams. They need to start playing well and winning those games. It makes no sense that they can play like this against Chicago, Miami, OKC and Dallas but lose to Cleveland and Toronto.

Great point.
I think he had 5 TO, but 4 steals and at least that many more tipped passes.
I can live
with TO when he’s also getting assists.
Rubio’s probably never going to be a low turnover player with his style and the amount of usage he has, but if he’s getting 10+ assists, we can live with the TO.
I actually think he will be a very low TO guy
4 assists/TO probably. He is just figuring out the quickness of this league and the limitations of his teamates.
Despite his flair (and this is a really common misunderstanding) he plays really sound ball, and makes really good decisions.

by Rascal Flatts on Jan 10, 2012 9:44 PM CST up reply actions
That's why I'm not sold
First off, he has skills no one else has, and our lineup is so limited, we need his game. But, he has so many holes, and takes a lot of bad shots and makes boneheaded plays. I’m not sold on him getting a ton of minutes.
Randolph's rebounding:
Career 16.3% Total Rebound Percentage or 10.7 Rebounds/36 minutes, if you prefer. He’s a fine rebounder, and more than adequate if he’s playing next to the best rebounder in the league.
My twitter: www.twitter.com/HogeJ
that's why I didn't say anything about rebounding
With Love we almost always have an advantage. But he takes really bad shots, doesn’t pass any better than Beas, and doesn’t play smart ball.
Again, he is a warm body with talent, so he gets minutes with us, but I am really no were close to being sold on him.
Randolph passes worse than Beasley
but is incredibly efficient scoring

Follow the post chain
Relac complains about being outrebounded, Rascall Flatts blames AR for it, and you say that that is the reason you’re not sold on him. Maybe you didn’t mean to, but you kinda did. Regardless, consider my post a comment on Randolph’s rebounding ability for anyone who would doubt it based on this game, whether or not you count yourself among that group.
My twitter: www.twitter.com/HogeJ
Hm
Well I see your view, but I meant AR just is so far away from having complete game that it makes it hard to watch.
And I’m being totally honest, I have never paid 2 cents to any comments about a Wolves player with poor rebounding, because Love either steals or makes up for their low boards.
Anways… cool. AR does some stuff OK. Go Wolves.
How would this look at center?

I don't rate him to be honest
If we are going to be thinking about new bigs instead of wings, i’d rather have someone who can score points. Love can handle rebounding most of the time.
Harsher Than Scissors
I think this season has proven we can't live off Love's rebounding alone.
Toronto had a ton of second chance opportunities. So did Memphis and Cleveland and so on. Going into tonight, the Wolves were 21st in opponent offensive boards. It’s a real problems. It’s just flown under the radar because of the bad wing play.

I think he knows when he’s guarding someone who is flat out faster than he is, and tries to compensate by putting on pressure without over committing. e.g. rather than go for a full steal, he seemed content to take a quick poke at the ball with his arm speed, but then immediately take a fast step back so he would be less likely to get burned. If he knocks the ball away, there’s always a chance someone else can grab it, and if not he took some time off the shot clock. Rubio’s best strength is that he seems to have a good idea of his limitations.
Right now he just needs a bit more synergy with some of the active players – seen in plenty of games where he threw the ball away when someone cut, because he thought they were going to drop back. That will come with time.

The dudes don’t even count for dat love is playing a back-to-back-to-back

In all fairness..
I don’t think any team can really call that a factor this year, because every team is coming off tough stretches. One of the biggest stories among Bulls fans has been about how Thibs has been pushing some of the starters (primarily Rose & Deng) almost 40 minutes / game. Everyone is going to be tired this year.
That said… Boozer is only averaging 29.0 minutes per game on account of getting benched for poor play. People are knocking Love’s defense (I haven’t watched him on D closely enough to see it, but I can’t imagine him being that much worse than Boozer), but Love seems to bring a MUCH more consistent offensive presence to the court. You never know what you’ll get on a given night from Boozer. My only concern about Love would be how he’d adjust on a team where he’d likely see a drop in possessions per game.

We gotta win some games
I don't know what an art house is, I don't know what goes on in an art house, I have never been in an art house, and I can't imagine it's any place I ever want to be.
Who says no
Beasley/Johnson/Ellington for Gerald Henderson and cap filler
Wolves obviously shouldn’t say no
I don't know what an art house is, I don't know what goes on in an art house, I have never been in an art house, and I can't imagine it's any place I ever want to be.
How about this...
Dump Wes even if it means you amnesty him.
Overpay Wilson Chandler when he comes back from China.
He’s the perfect fit for this team. Not a big ego. Team player. Can drive and shoot. And defend.

I'd be down with Chandler
he’s very slightly above average but good and tough

With Rubio he'd be great
What we need is a guy who is well rounded, not a guy who is one dimensional.
I think he’d be an awesome fit, and someone we wouldn’t have to trade a bunch of guys to get. And he’s 24.
Of all my trades Chandler might actually be the most realistic option too

I don't like the Beas/Elly/Wes trade
and not because of talent, but because we give up 3 wing players for 1. And then we have even less bodies to play wing.
But I’d love a Chandler signing.
I get your point
but wouldn’t you rather have 1 + wing who is reality consistent in Henderson as opposed to 3 guys who you have no clue what you are getting?
Henderson has been playing 35 a night for Charolette and doing so with moderate efficiency.
I think this trade is possible because Cha lacks overall depth, especially in the front-court so they are one team that Beasley might be an attractive fit for.
Remember we get Lee back too…so our wings would go from Beasley/Wes/Ellington to Henderson/Webster/Lee

Ya I guess
If you can confidently write in Lee and Webster. I mean shit, I am so over Elly, Wes and Beas it is not funny. As long as we have guys who can step on the court it won’t make a difference. And this is a weird feeling, but I’m not so sure Henderson really is enough of an upgrade over any of those 3 to make it worth it.
On a very different note
I love the ‘z’ scrolling option. Scrolling game threads after the game? Awesome. Even better after a win, but still…
He's a huge upgrade over those 3
he’s not an insanely great 2 guard. But he’s excellent defensively and has been getting to the line quite a bit the past 40 games or so for CHA.
He’s got a broke jumper, but is competent handler.
He’s a very solid player. He’s not gonna win us the title by himself. But he is the kinda 2 guard that makes starting Williams and Love a more viable option and that might ultimately be our best way to a title

I really want a trade for JJ Redick.
Rubio-Redick-Webster-Williams-Love as a crunch-time line-up for the second half of the season, please.
Reddick would be great
basically a bigger Ridnour

As would….so many other 2guards.

Any legitimate 2 guard
would probably give us a 5 win boost in the W/L column

I'd love JJ
Of all the guys that are reasonable options, he would look so good in our rotation.
unless it's injury related, i disagree
guy has big league ability and lots of confidence in his game.
I don’t think that necessarily equates to all-star…but if he’s 100 percent healthy and we don’t make a move I think he has a legitimate shot to start at 2 this year

That's great and all, but the same things were said about Wayne Ellington.
Expecting solid performance out of late 1st-rounders and 2nd-rounders is just a recipe for disappointment. I’m not saying there’s no chance he plays well; but penciling him in for any kind of production seems like a bad idea.
I’ll start believing Lee will be any kind of good once he plays any kind of good.
Me too
And those guys (late 1st/2nds) tend to take longer to contribute. Again, another body in the roto can’t hurt, but thinking Lee will do much more than we already have might be a strech considering the limited time he has had so far this season.
In all fairness, I didn't say those things about Elly ;)
I’ve always had a curious interest in Elly…but when we drafted him I did not like his game nearly as much as I like Lee’s
Also Lee is basically the exact opposite of Ellington. Great ball handling, passing, driving, and defensive skills
He’s gonna be a very solid role guy.

Yeah after Denver spent all that money on Afflalo
We may be able to snag him. But he’ll get a lot of attention.
He will, but how many teams
will have cap room and be more attractive?

Let's hope none
That’s why I was saying we go amnesty Wes. Take that salary and our mid-level and we have plenty of dough. Doubt Taylor would be that bold though.
Idc how dejected people may be (if at all), all I know is that I wanted that game so bad.
But I’m not heartbroken in the end. To fight back the way they did gives me hope. Past several years they would’ve just rolled-over at the 24 point deficit and held on to that for the remainder of the game.
Loved seeing some fight from everyone tonight.
I'm still a Minnesotan at heart...
3-7 1st 10, at least 5-5 next 10
My best case was 5-5 and worst case a non-competitive 2-8. So, they played somewhere in the middle.
Next 10:
@NO
@Atl
Sac
Det
@LAC
@Utah
Houston
@Dallas
SAS
LAL
Gotta go 5-5 at least — they should be competitive in all of them. None of the top 4 teams (Heat, Bulls, Thunder, Blazers).

I want 7 wins out of that.

Agreed.
4-1 at home (L to SAS or LAL); 3-2 on the road (Ls to Dallas and somebody else).

I mean, I would have loved more wins
And moral victories were last year, but we really played and pushed some of the best teams in the league. Let’s really get it done on this next stretch.
Yup.
I want the playoffs.

I was there after the SA and Dallas wins.
But the Cleveland and Toronto games brought me back down to earth. This is a scrappy, entertaining team that will compete almost every game. But there are exactly two consistently good players on it and no average wings.
I’m hoping for 25 wins, which is quite an improvement in a shortened season, continued excellence from Love and Rubio, growth from DWill throughout the season, and a deadline trade for a wing player.
If all that happens, I’ll be really jazzed about playoffs and stuff next year, after a full offseason and training camp under Adelman.
I think we get a lineup/rotation change starting Friday
I’m guessing Tolly and Rubio become starters for sure….maybe even Williams
and then Randolph/Ridnour/Barea are the first bench options.
Also Kahn hinted that Webster would be back soon…on PA last week at least
Once we get better lineups/rotations I think we have a legit shot at finishing .500 from whatever point the lineup changes

Agreed, the starting lineup's gonna get switched up next game. Dunno who's gonna be put in besides Rubio, but it's gonna get switched.
And I still think the playoffs are in reach. We’re not THAT deep into the season yet. A good run will put us right back in the mix, after the switch.
Or so my drunk mind tells me.
by googoleeoottooooleeoottooooleeeatta on Jan 10, 2012 10:35 PM CST up reply actions
Indeed it does
My problem with Rubes starting (and it’s not too big of a problem) is that Williams really needs him to do much scoring. And at the same time, it is a pretty big stretch to start Will. You can go small later in the game, or play Will at the 3 for certain matchups, but to straight up move Love to the 5 and start Will… it’s an iffy proposition.
Although let me say
Rubio needs to start. I’m just skeptical if it will help or hurt the overall rotations of the team in the process.
I think you start
Love/Williams/Tolliver
Tolly gives you the versatility defensively to hide Williams on the worst player in the front court

I was gonna rebute, in some form
But it’s such a crap shoot. I’m sure you are right, but that is a really shitty defensive line. At the same time, what else do we have? Our lineup just seems so thin. It comes down to Darko 12 minutes here, Williams 30~ish here, Tolly, Adolph… just depends when you want to see them.
Can you imagine...
…the pick and roll nonsense that would have been happening at Target Center with Curry, Love, and Rubio? Oi. The World has been deprived of one of its treasures.
Mr. Glass ankles would have looked really good
Cheering 2/3 of the pick and roll from the bench.
Dude....stop bringing up Curry.
It’s…..ugh.
It’s so painful now.

I think 4 wins there is a reasonable expectation.
In the first five: Road at Atlanta and Clippers will be really tough. SHOULD win two of the Hornets, Kings, Pistons games (but they could lose all of them — they seem to suck against teams at their talent level).
The next five is kind of brutal. I can’t see them beating the Spurs or Mavericks twice in a row. The Lakers are the Lakers. I don’t feel super confident in either the Houston or Utah games, although they’re capable of winning either.
If they beat New Orleans, Sacramento, Detroit and either Houston or Utah, that’s an okay performance in that stretch.
4 low, 7 high; that's the range for me
another 3-7 will be a let down. Gotta show some improvement on the W side

This reeks of predicitions from last year
where we would predict .500 for a stretch of 10 games, and would lose all 10

Yes it does.
For all the Ricky awesomeness, this whole season basically reeks of early last year. Switch Love’s breakout with Rubio’s, and it hasn’t been too dissimilar.
(This sounds more pessimistic than I am; I am infatuated with Rubio, and the Dallas and SA wins wouldn’t have happened last season. But the Wolves really really need to just start beating the mediocre teams more consistently. Those TOR and CLE losses are huge dampers.)
Your final point it correct
But the way you got there was really depressing.
I had that thought
But then I totally ignored it.

What I learned tonight
The Bulls are that good. Able to build a lead, lose a lead, and then step on the gas late again to pull away. We didn’t lose to a good team playing bad. We lost to a very good team playing pretty good. A moral victory? I suppose.
Love is a bit tired, not as hot as before.
Rubio is still playing well.
Our best SG is Luke or maybe JJ.
Randolph is our best non-Love C option.
We need Martell, Lee, Miller, and Beas back just to lower Wes and Darko’s minutes even further if for no other reason.
