Weird

So the athletic guys didn’t play much with Rubio in the 1st half? AR feeds off of him and you have to believe Williams would be better off too. Makes sense to stick the unicorn with a bunch of guys glued to the ground…

by RedHopeful on Jan 13, 2012 8:13 PM CST reply actions

That’s probably why it is best that he comes off the bench. As much as we want him to start.

by MychalShannon1 on Jan 13, 2012 8:15 PM CST up reply actions

Right

one or the other but u just can’t separate Rubio from the guys he had so much success with.

by RedHopeful on Jan 13, 2012 8:17 PM CST up reply actions

Agreed

Thought Adelman was smarter than this. I hope it’s only the fact he’s just experimenting for a half/game.

by RedHopeful on Jan 13, 2012 8:16 PM CST up reply actions

I think Adelman's aware that Darko is suicidal.

THERE. I said it. It’s out in the open now and we can all discuss this like rational people.

He cut his hand dunking

On his ONE DUNK OF THE SEASON, with no one else within 5 feet of him, he chooses to break the f’ing backboard … and cuts his hand open. Considering it’s Darko, I’m shocked he even made the dunk – but everything’s bizarro on Friday the 13th.

The team is playing with such frustration

as their good hard play has not been rewarded with wins especially kevin love. Minny needs to dig deep and just keep working, and begin to blow out teams like this. If we can get win big tonight, it will go along ways for our young team.

Ridnour uses the screen and always backs out and keeps dribbling, in essence doing nothing.

Rubio uses the screen and dribbles forward and passes to continue the flow of offense.

ummm

we just won…without beas.

i don’t know if he would’ve helped us or hurt us, but history has shown that he probably would have hurt us, so i’m happy he didn’t play (not happy he got hurt, because that’s weak!).

by davechisholm on Jan 13, 2012 9:35 PM CST up reply actions

History hasn't shown much

in regards to how he plays with Rubio.

And would you rather have him or Wes taking those open corner threes?

by googoleeoottooooleeoottooooleeeatta on Jan 13, 2012 9:36 PM CST up reply actions

I'd rather have Rubio run to the corner and take a contested three against double coverage

while Wes stays at OUR three point line and closes out on MARCO F’ING BELLINELLI

by mg7505 on Jan 13, 2012 9:38 PM CST up reply actions

Fuck, seriously.

How many open threes and offensive boards did Wes give up tonight (not including the wide open threes he missed). Its like reading – fundamental. DEFENSE and REBOUNDING. All you gotta do is box out.

by Boss10 on Jan 14, 2012 12:49 PM CST up reply actions

one more thing...

…in the little bit we saw him share the court with rubio, he didn’t play “with” rubio so much as play against him. too many iso’s, not enough cuts.

by davechisholm on Jan 13, 2012 9:37 PM CST up reply actions

True

Beas still way better than Wes

problem is beasley

Apparently has trouble identifying the 3pt line. Jokes aside Beasley>>Wes

by Waucckhewww on Jan 14, 2012 1:01 AM CST up reply actions

Trying to give him a chance to build his confidence with Ricky...?

Shit man, Rubio set him up for so many wide open looks. WIDE OPEN. One nice make. Lots of bad misses. A few near airballs. One actual airball. Plant him on the end of the bench till he learns to shoot. Period.

by Boss10 on Jan 13, 2012 9:34 PM CST up reply actions

It was strange

When he gets a pass for a spot-up it looks like he has so much extra motion. Most guys catch-jump-shoot. Wes seems to catch, swing, gather, jump, flick or whatever. Just way too much going on for a spot-up jumper off a perfect pass.

Not defending him too much..

..but we really needed his 8 boards tonight. He didn’t kill us tonight in 34 minutes. I’ll take it at this point.

Actually, that's true

He does have five minutes stretches where he crashes the D boards. Oh, and his Rubioop in the first was pretty nice.

by Malastare on Jan 13, 2012 9:40 PM CST up reply actions

The only reason he got that many boards

is because he wasn’t closing out his man on the perimeter. And ANYONE could have given us his 8 boards tonight.

by mg7505 on Jan 13, 2012 9:40 PM CST up reply actions

Can't have it both ways

If he wasn’t out on his man then his man still missed so he could get the board? Like I said, he wasn’t exactly great, but he was doing some good things.

In his defense

1 of those missed 3s was a 37-footer at the end of a quarter. Also, he had a better night than DeMarcus Cousins, who got absolutely DESTROYED by Samuel Dalembert!

As I said above, he's the smartest guy on the court just about all the time.

It makes a huge difference.

FG%, OReb, TOs, and still won the game at the line. Not a good performance, (dare I say a moral loss?) but a win. It really was Love and Rubio against the world tonight.

Love was really good on d tonight

He was on Kaman, Landry and Smith (I know, not exactly KG, Timmy, and Malone) and they went 4-28. Obviously, it wasn’t all Love, but it did contribute a ton to all the orebs for the Hornets.

Looking at the stats and laughing/crying

One incredible half by Love and another good game by Rubio. Everyone else, from meh to terrible.

So, the Wolves can beat weak teams with 2 players.

How many open shots did Wolves miss off of Rubio passes? Gotta keep track, should have had at least 5 more assists.

by ChicagoViking on Jan 13, 2012 9:40 PM CST reply actions

Wes,

it would have been nice if you could have hit one of those shots to get Rubio the double-double he deserved tonight. You better hit those vs. Atlanta or it could be a long, ugly night. Oh, and lock up Joe Johnson while you are at it.

by Imyourhuckleberry on Jan 13, 2012 9:45 PM CST reply actions

RR didn't need that one

This is how bad Wes is....

Aminu has better stats.

Back to Wes — He isn’t just missing threes. He is missing by a wide margin, barely if at all hitting the rim. I can’t see how he “breaks out of it” at this point.

He has “skills”, smarts, and he tries hard on every play it seems. Forget the O, watch him on D — moving his feet, getting into passing lanes, blocks, rebounds, steals. He’s that good.

What I really liked about this game

is how we won. Take care of the ball at the end, get some movement on offense, draw fouls, sink free throws. Good teams don’t need to hit huge shots at the end of the game a lot of the time, they let the other team beat themselves. We’ve been on the other end of that so many times, it was nice to see us do it for once.

by juliancasablancas on Jan 13, 2012 9:59 PM CST reply actions

I'm not ready to give up on Wes completely,

but based on what I had read pre-draft, I was hoping we would get MarShon Brooks. He seems like he could help this team. Trading Flynn for the 23rd Pick was a great move, but we should have stopped there and added Brooks, who was drafted #25.

The dunk that was completely unnecessary because no one was trying to block him? The dunk that didn’t need to be anything more than a soft tap-in, but that he inexpicably chose to slam down with all his unshaven Serbian power, only to CUT HIS HAND OPEN and almost take himself out of the game? That dunk?
