cleared to play? cleared to practice?

or, given the exclamatory usage, is he cleared in the defribulator sense?

with his injury history, my money’s on the latter…

So he was seeing his doctor in Portland...

I think he’s cleared to practice and do contact drills.

I would expect him to play in 1-2 weeks.

NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Damnit, no way I can root for him now. Worst fake pretend church ever. Their creed is a laundry list of how to be selfish, self-righteous and full of it.

But having said that, what’s your source? I cannot find one word via Google about Martell being a Scientologist (but a lot of creepy stuff about his mom being a victim of the Green River killer).

Dude

you totally fooled me. Just read that Reitman book on Scientology, but oddly she rarely mentions “clear.”

But the truth is I’ve been waiting for you to betray my values for some time now SnP. Having been betrayed by almost every politician, celebrity, author and sports figure I’ve ever idealized, I keep waiting for Canis Hoopus to drop the other tennis shoe, revealing yourselves to be the pedo-cannibalistic neo-Zoroastrian, train-defiling, Pocky-fellating Socialist scum Ayn Rand warned us about….

I certainly don't mean to offend anyone

and respect everyone’s right to believe what they want. It’s all about faith, after all. But all religions seem to glorify a diety, and they all seem to pursue your dollar. Seemingly all children are taught early in life to assume the parents beliefs, that are passed down from generation to generation.

Wait, this is a sports blog….

Nevermind.

I think the "pursuit of a dollar"

Happens on a case-by-case basis, across all religions/creeds. It is one human tendency with-which these practices often try to grapple. It is not the religions fault that its adherents fail to sublimate their grosser desires, per se. That is all I have to say.

To those without faith

most religion looks a little silly. Parts of the bible could be read as comedy. South Park is cashing checks using religion as endless fodder.

by Flip Situp on Jan 16, 2012 10:21 PM CST up reply actions

I don't think that is true

I grew up Roman Catholic and have a degree in religious studies from Creighton before I lost my faith. My experience has been that of being told that doctrine matters, a lot. My parents remember getting the Catholic movie cards about which movies were ok to watch by the Church’s standards. I remember CCD class where we learned some fairly specific things.

My main reason for leaving the Church (outside of the criminal child rape crime ring) was seeing this doctrine lumped in with the “people of faith” bit for some fairly earthly ends. I don’t think religion is silly. I think it is just another way of looking at the world and it doesn’t need to hide behind faith to make some fairly decent moral claims. I love the Sermon on the Mount. For all I care, Jesus could be a Muppet and it wouldn’t change the standing of those words. However, to be told that those words stand where they are because of something beyond this realm….well, I think once faith for the sake of faith is called upon, it takes away from the true meaning of the teaching..l.which is sometimes quite good.

(FWIW, I no longer consider myself an atheist. I have found a lot of peace in meditation and Mindfullness. I believe in the connectiveness of it all….my difference is that I would never presume that the details of my arguments have primacy over those of the other guy. They are all just ideas that should be argued over.)

Funny.

In recent years I’ve stopped calling myself an atheist and started calling myself an “agnostic dharma dabbler.” I still don’t believe in deities, so I’m still an atheist, but that doesn’t seem like the most important part of my disposition. Stephen Batchelor’s book Buddhism Without Belief changed a lot about how I view the world.

And it has heed quite a bit. The Catholic guilt pops up every now and then but the four truths beat it down ;)

"Of what use is a philosopher who does not hurt anybody's feelings?" -Diogenes of Sinope

by Cynical Jason on Jan 17, 2012 1:05 AM CST up reply actions

I don't have religion

or doctrine, or Catholic guilt. My tattoos represent interconnectedness, but that’s as far as I go. The more I know, the more I realize I don’t know much. The value of a man is not determined by his religion. Religion is twisted to so many ends I often forget it’s purpose. I’m interested in any attempt to understand the world. It’s frustrating to try to understand the unknowable, but that doesn’t mean we shouldn’t try. Similar to the idea of perfection. The concept only has utility only insofar as you make the effort.

“We all suffer” is one way to unite us. Pretty dour though. We all live. “Life is pain, Highness. Anyone who says differently is selling something.”
Ok, now I’ve made four left turns.
I try live by the moral code of the deified George Carlin in Bill and Ted, “Be excellent to each other.” I guess that’s what happens when you don’t force feed religion to your kids, and instead give them unlimited access to Christian influenced pop culture. Obviously my parents didn’t get the movie cards:)

Jesus pretty much is a Muppet at this point. But you’re right, truth can be told by anyone.

One good rule of thumb

If your religion is less than 200 years old, it’s a cult. If it’s still around 200 years from now, it will become a religion. Future religions will include:

The Church of Elvis
The Church of 24/7 Reality TV
Teabagifarianism
Pastafarianism
Draft Lotterarians
Foodism

And there will be, of course, a 12-step program for each of them.
