Would we dare trade for Paul "The Truth" Pierce?
And how ironic would that be?
http://basketball.realgm.com/wiretap/218370/Teams_Begin_Calling_Celtics_On_Pierce
Pierce on our team IMO gets us to the 2nd round. Is it worth what we may have to give up? Adelman wants a star VET on our team, not more potential. I see this being more logical than Gordon or someone to that effect. Especially just from what Rick has said in interviews. Could we trade for Pierce and see KG come back and end his career at the Garnett Center? How potent would a lineup of -
Rubio, Ridnour, Pierce, Love, Randolph be? With D-Thrill/Beasley(who gets traded?) coming off the bench.
Better question, would anyone even want to see Rubio, Barea, Pierce, Love, KG out on the court? For even a year?
I feel split.

who are we trading?
I wouldn’t trade Williams, and nothing else could get you Pierce….
I don't know what an art house is, I don't know what goes on in an art house, I have never been in an art house, and I can't imagine it's any place I ever want to be.
Unless Boston is willing to take several bad or expiring contract from us salaries will make this impossible.

I think they would want expiring contracts
Because like the article says, it would make them serious players in free agency.
Beasley, Randolph and Tolliver are our only expiring contracts.
We’d need to find more to match Pierce’s deal, and I doubt Boston is going to take that group without some serious draft picks also involved.
I'm not interested in a 2 year rental!
Look at how well the Celtics are playing right now! Pierce is not even close to what he use to be. He is selfish and hogs the ball. PP is an overaged Beasley. I would much rather have Ray Allen. Imagine Rubio and Ray playing together.

that's true
but he has about 7 less bullet wounds and hasn’t appeared to have lost as much of a step in his game, and lift on his jumpshot. This is likely due to his offseason regimen, which as I understand it, rivals that of Jerry Rice and Reggie Miller. I’d pick Ray Ray every day of the week over PP. We probably should have just kept him in the first place :)
Reason is the first victim of strong emotion.
oooOOOoooo... good call.
that made me think a minute. It was actually 11 stab wounds. I sit corrected.
Reason is the first victim of strong emotion.
I'd offer Beas or Johnson..
..but I doubt either of those guys are what the Celtics are looking for.
Hmm for anything short of Love/Williams/Rubio
yes. I would trade Williams if we can get Allen who seems to be having much less drop off in his game this year. PP meh, RA in a heartbeat.
I wonder if Williams will be anything more than a 2 year rental
I don’t know if I’d go for Pierce, but Williams is the guy who is going to get swapped at some point or another.
And poking a nose into
the GM surveys just released (even if Hollinger thinks they look a little shady), people are still quite high on him, despite our inability to showcase him.
The Love extension certainly needs to happen first, but it’s starting to seem a little inevitable.
It's not global warming...it's the Rubio effect.

How bad are the Celts going to be in another year or two?
They have 4 players under contract for the 12/13 season. Rondo, Pierce, Bradley, and JaJuan Johnson. They could probably get Allen and/or KG to resign next year, but that isn’t going to help them for long.
So yeah they should breakup the team and trade Pierce for prospects and expiring contracts, but I’m sure Beasley and Wes aren’t the answer.
That all depends on who they can sign.
Miami had Chalmers and Beasley and that’s about it. Boston will not be good if they can’t sign or draft anyone, but they are a storied franchise with a good PG and in the near future a lot of cap room.

Nope
Old, old man and I’m guessing we’d have to give up something food to get him

Yep...
I’d make sure some other players couldn’t be had (Batum, K. Martin), but if not, Pierce still makes sense for the Wolves. Even how he is playing this year, he is a massive upgrade over Michael Beasley. He has been considerably more effecient scoring this year (bad year) (PPS 1.3 > 1.1).
His contract is only two years, he will not affect our ability to sign our future players.
Maybe we can get them to buy into Wes Johnson’s untapped potential (don’t laugh).
Beasley – Wes Johnson – Pek
They probably wouldn’t do it, but I don’t think they are going to get a ton for Pierce.

Honestly I would
give up Beas/Webster/Johnson/Darko/Pek to make this happen but not a serious asset.
can i just say that...
we are one historic Lakers-Memphis-Pau Gasol-like trade away from being a major force in the West. (as unlikely as that is, but the sun is coming up on this franchise)
if we can take out the trash, get a veteran like Pierce/Allen… i say strike now! before the Lakers reload that team with D12.
It seems reasonable enough that some of these teams are going to cut bait on this season real fast…Vets should be available.

I wouldn't give up DWill for Pierce
Too old.
But I’d happily trade anyone outside of Love/Rubio/DWill for him. If we could talk Boston into some combo of Beasley/Randolph/Wes/… I’d be happy. Love/Rubio/Pierce = playoffs I think. Then trade DWill for a SG or C.

I'm looking for teams that are sinking fast and might be willing to blow things up...
The biggest problem is that everyone has a serviceable PF.
The Buck likely won’t give up Bogut and they also seem to have found a good on in Leuer.
The Suns have numerous assets (Dudley, Gortat, Lopez, even Childress) I covet but they also just drafted a good PF in Morris.
Sacramento has Thornton and Salmons who offer us quite a lot but are pricey. To be honest Jason Thompson might be the best target on their team, cheap decent player but doesn’t offer quite the defense I would like out of a big man.
N.O – Gordon would be nice but is expensive, ditto on Okafur. They own our pick this year so deals are unlikely.
Golden State… Brown is injured, with Curry being perpetually injured I doubt Ellis is available… Biedrins is worth a look but is also very expensive and often injured.
Washington – McGee seems to be the most logical target but as their second best player I’m not sure if he’s available or not.
I would take Prince from Detroit, contract and all but not for Williams.
Boston – Ray Allen would be most welcome, Pierce or Garnet only if the price is right.
Toronto – DDR … once again probably not available.
In short, getting any deal done is going to take serious work. Mayo and Bogans still make a ton of sense on this team.
So let's do this
Mcgee with Williams and maybe get something else that has some value that you can couple in a trade with like the Bucks/Bobcats
why I bring the Bucks/Bobcats up=late lottery teams that can’t score. Present them with a Randolph/Beasley/Wizard asset (even if it’s just a future pick) and a couple of our protected picks and get their late lotto pick and then draft the 2 guard. Pick up Bogans to pad the bleeding and hope KB, Martell and Lee can fill in until Brad Beal is ready to roll (which shouldn’t take long).
I think DDR is available, I think where it’s gonna hurt us is I don’t think we have what they want. We would have to work a 3 teamer to find an asset that the Raps want (starting SF is what I hear)
I don't know what an art house is, I don't know what goes on in an art house, I have never been in an art house, and I can't imagine it's any place I ever want to be.

I went through the same process yesterday....
there just aren’t any realistic situations. Really hammers home the dangers of taking a PF that you can’t really use in the draft.
Like you, I landed on McGee as the most likely and interesting, and Ray Allen as a ballsy but interesting option.
Do you think NO views Okafor as a negative asset right now? If so… we could possible get Emeka and our pick for Beasley + Darko. We might need to throw in a little more value (UT pick?), but that pick is getting less shiny by the day.
any Utah pick deals
will have to be on Draft Day, too many un-knowables there for a trade deadline deal.

I've wondered about your Okafor situation for sometime
The godfather of all trades would be
(Assuming Okafor=negative asset)
Williams/protected picks (both utah and memphis)/cap relief=Okafor, Gordon, Min 2012 pick

I wanted this deal on draft day
- to TOR for #5 and DDR
Considering JoVal ended up being available at 5 that would have been a pretty good trade.
I wouldn’t be surprised if a similar deal were still available (as TOR is by no means set at 4. Ed Davis is nice, but hasn’t been overly consistent….and also JoVal has indeed not played in the NBA yet) we’d probably have to pay a little extra (like Luke Ridnour or picks) but I would be very interested still in getting JoVal and DDR
