Good Rubio article in USA Today
Some quotes and information I've not heard before, such as the following from Ricky...
"I have to control more of the game. That's what a point guard has to do. We lost a lot of games in the last quarter, and that can't happen," Rubio says. "We had a chance, but we don't have to be happy because we had a chance. We have to be happy because we won the game. And we didn't.
"That's not enough."
...
"I like Minneapolis because it's not a small city or a (big) city. I call it a big town because it's not like (Los Angeles) or New York. I prefer this style a lot."
...
"They don't attack you (in Minneapolis) like they do in L.A., for example, with Pau Gasol."
...
"I gave (my) word that I'm going to come in two years. When you say it's (your) word, it's your word," Rubio said. "You have to do it. No matter what happens or how comfortable I was in Barcelona. … I decided to make the big step. And I know I made the right choice."

funny how this whole
Rubio narrative has changed.
“He’ll never want to live in Minnesota!”

He's saying all the right things
Let’s hope he’s sincere

Yup
The weather out in LA probably looks great right now.

No kidding.
Remember how he only wanted to play in a big city? I love the quote where Rubio actually says he likes Minneapolis because it isn’t a “big” or “small” city. He even says its a better place for him than LA! I can’t believe that was allowed to be printed in USA Today….
Has Bill Simmons ever really owned up on this?

BS's main point
Was that drafting an older, stronger PG for Rubio to compete with in Flynn was part of the reason Rubio didn’t want to come.
Basically tho we’re still waiting for the big Simmon’s Rubio article where he kisses Kahn’s boots.

For reasons I don't fully understand
the perceived (and sometimes real) location/city bias seems to be more prominent in basketball than any of the other professional sports. Why would an NBA player care more about the city he’s playing in than say a baseball or football player? Green Bay has to be the smallest market in the country with a professional sports team, but I don’t ever recall a player saying he didn’t want to be drafted by the Packers for this reason.
My feeling is that this is mostly a media hyped bias that doesn’t exist in most players. If it does exist I think it goes away quickly as most young players learn that 1) every city with a professional basketball team is big enough to provide you with plenty of entertainment, housing, shopping etc… opportunities. 2) you’re on the road half the time anyway and can live wherever you want to in the off season.

Not to mention that football games are very often played outdoors, in the elements.
A Packers player takes the field when it’s freezing out there. We don’t make Rubio bring the ball up into a driving sleet in December.
"Opinion ...a confession."
But I bet he could if we did make him
He’d be the best damn sleet-ball player this side of the Mississippi.

NBA Players are at the forefront much more than the other two sports, and the majority of the NBA season is played out during the winter months
Also, again, as NBA players are more at the forefront, they seem to show a bit more immaturity as well. I want to go further into this but I think this could spark a pretty damn dirty argument.

"He’ll never want tolive inleave Minnesota!"
If at first you don't succeed, try, try again.
If that doesn't work, cheat.

Also you didn't post the entire Gasol quote
“They don’t attack you (in Minneapolis) like they do in L.A., for example, with Pau Gasol. It’s easier starting here,” Rubio said. “You don’t feel the pressure, but you know that you have to win here, too, and give 100%.”

It's true
Sombrero-wearing Rubio fans are much less critical than Angelinos.
Yo ho ho and a FirstRow stream!
though they are slightly offensive
