I love this
Not the deal, but the fact that Charley Walters came out yesterday with 60 mil 4 year deal story and the national media ran with it. Here’s a tip for them: wait for Zgoda’s piece so that you don’t make a fool of yourself.
Well i'm obviously dumb
because I should RTFA first.
According to ESPN ...
a four-year max offer would be for $61 million. I despise Charley as much as the next guy, but he wasn’t far off. The only question left is if they offer the 4-year max or the 5-year/$90 million max.
It was funny how people were saying we were disrespecting Love
By offer 4/60 versus the max of 4/61.
Naturally we all assumed disrespect because Charley positioned it that way.
And isn't that based on Love's preferences
not ours? Seems like the team would want the five-year contract. Only Love’s agent would prefer four years, imho.
Yo ho ho and a FirstRow stream!
I am not sure if Love would prefer 4 or 5 years, but the article mentions there is a chance that the Wolves want to save their designated player exemption (which would allow the team to sign only one player on the roster coming off of a rookie contract to a five year extension instead of a four year extension.) It would make sense if both parties prefer a 4 year extension for different reasons. Love wants some guaranteed money but doesn’t want to be stuck with a bad team in his prime. The Wolves want to lock Love down for a fairly long period, but they may want to extend Rubio five years instead.
If I were making the decision, I would try my best to extend Love for five years even if it means paying Love 78 million over that period. I tend to believe that the players surrounding him last season were historically awful and that a team of Love + Rubio + avg will be at least a fringe playoff team.

So maybe it shouldn’t be your bread and butter, dude…
That was my reaction too
Maybe as a super athletic wing with great size, your bread and butter should be shutting guys down, driving to the hoop, and ripping down rebounds. e.g. more Gerald Wallace, less Ray Allen.
