Westbrook - 5 year, $80M extension, per Wojnarowski
Well, Zgoda thinks this is part of the precedent for Love. Not sure what hasn't been stated or debated already, but the first shoe drops...
Edit: Link updated to the article, rather than the tweet.
Edit2: Title changed to $80M, per change in the report.

That's the maximum for these guys
Obviously, you have to offer that to Love.
The Wolves are like the worst meal you've ever had--terrible while you're eating it and even worse later.

Absolutely
What’s your take on the whole 4-yr offer bit? I don’t see a need to save it for Rubio, who’s locked up for 3 (4?) right now, then hopefully another 4…
I only ever want the Wolves to draft 5th.

If Love wants 5 years, you give him 5 years
Hanging on to that for a situation that won’t come up for several more seasons is silly. I assume they must know that. Lock up Love for as long as it’s possible to do so.

4 years, 5th year player option

Hollinger
Stated in his chat he would be stunned if Love, Rubio, Blake etc ever reached restricted free agency. Players coming off rookie deals never turn down max level extensions.
This is true
However, a player can engineer a sign and trade to get paid and to the team the want.

Isn't that situation that generally comes up with a third contract?
Frankly, I hate those kinds of S&Ts (and am bummed that the new CBA didn’t eliminate them), but it was not something I was particularly worried about with Love. I am trying to think of a star player who did that for his second contract…
Coming off a rookie deal?
The two I know are Jamal Crawful from the Bulls to the Knicks and Eddy Curry from the Bulls to the Knicks. Thanks Isiah. :)

It's what I hate about the NBA
You pay guys on the fear that they leave, not on their worth.
To me, only the top 5 guys in the league should get the max. Football is far better that way.
Too few players?
I have a theory based on the quantity of players… I would guess if you had the same amount of games/year, same ticket price, but you had even 25 guys on a team instead of 15… you’d see those max salaries be doled out much more diligently. Actually, an amended version of that would be 25 guys, where you are required to actually play all of them… haha. Quite a stretch, but I would guess you know where I’m going with this!
The NFL and the NBA
have different trade rules. The NBA is much more rigid when it comes to contracts since they are guaranteed. The NFL deals are front loaded so trading them 4 years into the deal is easy because if you can’t trade them, you just cut them.

The top 5 guys in the league
deserve more than the max.

I don't know if "deserve" is the right word,
but based on certain factors, paying them more than the max would be appropriate.

They overpaid?
By how much?

Just saying, out of the guys on that team I don't see Westbrook as a max
I dunno, Durant is for sure but the others?

He is a very efficient player
He’s in the top 10 in PER the last two seasons.
