Why would he do that
when his peers are signing for 80M? Sign him to the max, Minny.

This is a 4 year max instead of a 5 year max
600 N First Ave "like a Pirate's cove".
Yes it is
And he’s leaving 20M on the table by taking it. If I was hhis agt, I’d reject that offer.

I would take it and smile knowing that I'm getting paid more than I will ever need and that I'll be in control of where I play sooner.
600 N First Ave "like a Pirate's cove".
bogus!
Who knows how your health is going to be next year, let alone 4 years from now. Every basketball player is one microfacture surgery away from losing 75% of your salary. Kevin is smart, he knows this…especially when we’re playing him 40+ minutes a night.
I'm with you as far as what I expect the agent and KLove to want.
I’m just of the breed once I had more than $50 million locked up I’d be more concerned about being happy with my work situation etc.
Agents get fired and or replaced. There is no way the agent will avoid pushing for the 5th year. KLove will likely be able to make that money whether on a 5th year on this contact or on his 3rd deal. The agent may not represent KLove 4 years from now.

contract not contact

Here's the BIG difference
If Love takes the 5 year deal, it closes the door on us every making a free agent splash and picking up a #1 level SG/SF. With Westbrook, Durant was already signed and sealed.
Could Love and Rubio be attractive for a stud wing to take the max in a year or two? Not sure who’s a FA when, but signing Love to the full max is limiting.
We still have to give Rubio a max deal in 3 years
I don’t think we can afford a max wing, unless you want to rent Ray Allen for a year.
"I don't think I've ever seen a group that is as good at turning the ball over as this one." Rick Adelman
It's possible Love wants the four years so that he can get the HELL out of here sooner, if need be
Like if Adelman dies, Porter is new HC, and Rubio destroys his knee in motorcycle accident. Or, more likely, if Rob Moor tries to touch him inappropriately.
Too hot to handle, too cold to hold
They're called the Ghostbusters and they're in control
If he wants to get the hell out of here
He can just become restricted and be gone in 2 yrs
"I don't think I've ever seen a group that is as good at turning the ball over as this one." Rick Adelman
And risk blowing out his own knee
And losing the big payday.
Plus he’s planning on blimping up as soon as he signs. He’ll be like Eddie Curry before next season. ;-)
must mean he intends on eating al those rebounds
I imagine a basketball has to be pretty filling considering it is full of air…maybe that will increase his vertical?
If at first you don't succeed, try, try again.
If that doesn't work, cheat.

I think this is it
And I honestly don’t blame him

These are all valid points
Do you take the 1 year 6M qualifying offer to become a free agt, and risk missing a big payday with a debilitating injury, ala Greg Oden? Or do you settle for the 60M, and leave 20M on the table, knowing you may or may not get another max deal in 4 years?
If anything, Love has shown he is one of the most durable players at one of the most demanding positions in the NBA. I still say hold out for the 5 years. He’s playing like a HOF’er, putting up better numbers than KG, except for assists, and deserves the max.
In negotiations, you never bite at the first offer.
Plus, I think he likes this team, the coach, the city, and sees the potential to build a winner here. We’re only one or 2 players away from seriously competing.

I don't know
I just don’t know about the city. Love seems like a guy who wants to play in one of the huge US cities.

Whatever gave you that idea?

Also, its okay here in MN
But if I stay here for my whole life its going to be because of family/friends
Damn this weather, DAMN IT ALL
I also wouldn’t mind some elevation

What has it been? Three days now
of cold weather. If you’ve been here your entire life our recent mild winters have sure made you soft.
He's Ricky Rubio. He’s not like anyone else.
I would like to live somewhere else for a while
Seems that a lot of people just end up staying around here because they were born here. While it certainly is not a bad place to live (I think its great) its not like there aren’t more enjoyable places around the country

You just have to give up your family and friends
Load up the car, and head west, young man. You may miss your family and friends, but you won’t miss the cold.

Is there really such a thing as durability?
Or is it a concept like evolution? Evolution is always credited with designing this or designing that, but evolution doesn’t design anything except in a retrospective sense, which isn’t consistent with the definition of design. Likewise durability can be found in a retrospective sense but I wouldn’t count on it when being offered $80,000,000 or $60,000,000. Imagine Pek tripping and diving into the side of Klove’s knee, I’d bet on Pek’s shoulder (bad luck) over Love’s knee (durability.)

So call him lucky then, like KG
Although KG was never a banger like KLove, and avoided contact. I always used to laugh when KG had his defender deked out and flying in the air, and rather than initiate the contact like we see KLove doing all the time, KG would instead do everything in his power to avoid the contact so he could launch one of his patented jumpers. That would ALWAYS piss me off when he did that. I blamed Flip for not coaching the players to initiate contact to draw a foul, and we were always one of the fewest free throw shooting teams in the Flip era. But he may have extended his career by doing just that.

Good point
But initiating contact won’t often get you hurt, it’s the unexpected blows and twists you have to worry about.

Beasley seems to have chronic
problems in his ankle. He hasn’t been the same player after he injured it last year. Hope it’s not a continuous thing.

Isn't this latest injury,
An unrelated foot sprain or something? Either way, it’s his head space that we hope gets cleared up.

I don't know how he doesn't want 5 years
All the reasons listed about about him wanting out, he can still do with a 5 year contract with a simple trade demand. I just don’t see how anyone doesn’t want an extra guaranteed 17-19 Million dollars

And who knows what the next CBA will look like?
Both the owners and the players have the option to opt out of the current CBA after 5 years, I believe, and start the whole joyous lockout thing rolling again. Take the money while it’s there.
