Where are you calling from?

Today, Action created a fanpost calling all California fans. A couple of weeks ago a similar Chicago post was sent out. I live in Sunnyvale, California, and I would love to catch Wolves games with my fellow CHers and share in the bewildered looks I get from the bartenders when I ask for them to put the Wolves game on, particularly when they're playing a team like the Hornets or the Cavaliers. To this end, I was just wondering where everyone is writing from, especially since there are so many people on this board nowadays. So I ask you, city and state, where are you writing from?

It's a big state bro.. who knows.. there may be a bunch of people on the MN campus or..

in Eden Prarie, Golden Valley, etc., who live a couple of miles or less from each other that can watch games together once they realize it.

There should be Timberwolves fan clubs

springing up in bars in different towns. We had that out here with Vikings games. Some of my best friends out here I met at a bar that hosted Vikings fans every week to view the game. Back then, not everyone had DirecTV. But we’d get 20-30 fans every week getting together to watch the games. It’s alot of fun.

Vancouver Winters

Something about that cold rain in VAN kicks my rear. Do you find the Winters in Minn to be much much worse, or is it a nice brake from cold rain?

by fanslaststand on Jan 20, 2012 7:50 PM CST via mobile up reply actions

Yeah

I actually prefer the extreme cold and snow, at least it feels like winter. In Vancouver, it just feels damp and depressing when it rains. BUT, there’s no doubt Vancouver is one of the most beautiful cities in the world, although it is getting more and more expensive to live there.

no my friend.. you did not miss much..

my advice, leave Rochester after you finish your schooling unless you get a job you can’t pass up. You just can’t experience life in Rochester due to it’s homogeneity and lack of culture in my humble opinion. It’s perfect if you have kids, but not so much otherwise.

I dunno, for a city of 100,000

I think its pretty cosmopolitan. I’d much rather live there than, say St. Cloud. I’ve never lived there, but my fiance is from there and I’ve spent a decent amount of time there the past two years. At least you have John Hardy’s. Hardy’s makes gooooood BBQ. And that wonderful dinosaur of a restaurant Michael’s. And lovely Goose Shit, er Silver Lake park.

Yeah, ok, get out. And I agree not the best place to be single, unless you’re a doctor, in which case you’re probably fine.

I agree the clubs are probably pretty poor

But there are lots of interesting young doctors, nurses, and engineers there. People to date – just hard to find them.

I am happily married and really like Rochester. It is a nice blend. Big enough to have lots of restaurants, grocery stores, etc. Small enough that my commute is 15 minutes every day. Only a bit over an hour from the cities to do fun “big city” things like Wolves, Broadway play productions, Zoo, etc.

AH!

I grew up across the field from Parkview past the rink, I could see it out my bedroom window. I think I had Mrs. Meyers in 4th and Mrs. Stork? in 5th. But remember those two as well. Also Mr. Petersen in 5th? Long time ago, cannot recall those names. I remember the parrots and fountain by the entrance. In retrospect, how cool was that? I hope you didn’t beat me up at recess. Scary.

Not sure about the police station, the development is where the woods used to be behind and North of RHS. They live maybe a few hundred yards from the pond behind the school.

Not sure

Don’t recognize the name. It is funny, as I think about this I realize that I can’t recall the names of kids/families who lived within a few houses of us. I used to lay with a kid down the street and for the life of me I can’t remember his first or last name. Odd. I probably could name 20 families with kids our age from Valley Park, maybe 30 if pressed. RHS was so large I recall flipping through my senior yearbook and realizing that probably 300 kids were total strangers in appearance and name. Bizarre.

Odd how specific yet random childhood relationships are, without seeming to be so at the time.

dont really have a speciality

I have learned how to cook from where I work which is a small gourmet bistro that does a lot of gourmet seafood and pastas but I guess my true favorite is making killer red meat dishes like prime rib and steaks but the guy I work for is absolutely amazing at sauces which is an ability I covet. I love the competition cooking shows as well but they dont really translate into a career as a chef well random ingredients that dont work together is not a real good point to plan a menu off of hehe. I know I couldnt make something that would taste good and sell at a restaurant with octopus, grape jelly, collared greens, and foie gras lol.

Never thought I’d see a Dunedin NZ reference on Canis Hoopus, so I’m taking that as a sign that I should finally stop lurking. I grew up in Minneapolis and now live in Western Mass, but growing up I spent two summers in Dunedin. I have many fond memories of the Otago Peninsula. Was lucky enough to return for a visit last spring and found it much as I had remembered. Fantastic place.

The Berkshires are cool too

I stayed overnight in Pittsfield once when my daughter was at Hampshire. I came out of the motel and there was a Schwann’s truck right outside the door, I hadn’t realized how big they’d gotten, and for a second I thought I was back in Minnesota.

by Ricardo Blonde on Jan 21, 2012 10:09 AM CST reply actions

The medieval costumes they wore there were like breast display cases.

I was there once in the ‘70s and a gal was wearing a chain mail top with nothing underneath. That was a challenge to appropriate eye contact. The women couldn’t scold too much lest they be accused of over-noticing the codpieces.

We were there three years.

Norman is a funny little town, but I enjoyed a lot of the time there. Met some great people, found a startling number of great ethnic restaurants (Indian, Thai, Ethiopian), and enjoyed life in a college town.

The drivers there are terrible, though. The worst I’ve ever seen. And there’s a lot of proud-of-willful-ignorance-type of conservatives out there. All in all, it wasn’t a bad three years, but I prefer Minnesota. I even like the winters here.

Didn’t see any other Ohio fans check in so far. I was blessed (cursed?) with a mini Minnesota Timberwolves basketball back in the day and I loved the look of the wolf in the logo as well as the colors – blue is my favorite. There were a few years where I didn’t follow the team, but they’ve been my team ever since. It’s funny how something like a mini basketball can make you a fan for life.
